A few questions for Jungle/Breakcore/Drill n' Bass producers
- When using multiple drum breaks what processing do you use on individual breaks, compared to your breaks inside of a group.
For instance, I have a group track where I keep all my breaks, and then individual tracks for each break. On my group track I will have a high pass filter to keep space for my bass, and I will also use a compressor to glue the breaks together (I guess… I just kind of wing it when it comes to compressors).
On each individual drum break I will have things like repeaters, comb filters, reverb etc. I will toggle these effects on and off throughout the track to get that typical intricate Drill n’ Bass sound.
Just curious how other producers of this type of music do things. I get overwhelmed when I have too many tracks and have to scroll left and right and to see everything. I’m always looking for ways to be more efficient
- Any tips for gluing breaks together so everything sound cohesive.
As I said before when it comes to compressors I just wing it. Is a compressor all you need to glue breaks together? Would EQing the group of breaks as a whole also help to achieve this sound?
- FInally, would someone be so kind as to share a .xrns file where they have a lot of different breaks and effects used so that I can see other peoples workflow?
Thanks

A different type of phase viewer
It’d be nice if Renoise had a way to study the shapes of sound without having to get sand everywhere…

Bassfrienderz music
Hello, all my tracks on my channel bassfrienderz are made with renoise. I compose within genres like game music/hardcore/tekstyle/freestyle/dnb/scene/chiptunes .
Just to share a few above. Always want to improve at the software

How to adjust parameters of plugin during a live record of a track?
I would like to record a track in real time, and adjust various parameters of some plugins that I am using while the track is playing.
For example, I want to manually adjust a knob on a synth plugin to adjust the cutoff frequency of a high pass filter throughout the recording of the track. Is this something possible to do in renoise?
In the past I have rendered song to disk offline, but today I was trying to render song to disk in ‘real time’, but that does not seem to facilitate what I want to do. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

Live does not find Redux
Playing random phrases
Pitch command +sample offset versus chromatic input+offset
Track 4 at the left shows pitch shifting with normal keyboard tranposition + sample offset
The right track uses the pitch up command +sample offset
The results sound totally different .
Anyone knows why ?

Directly editing XML File - New zip (xrns) file can't be read
As a new Renoise user, and someone with zero coding experince, I’ve decided to throw myself into the deep end and am attempting to directly edit a renoise file in text editor. Silly, I know.
I am doing this because I want to use Renoise to convert environmental data into sound. Using excel I have converted a year’s worth of measurements from an oceanic wave measuring buoy into HEX values that fall within Renoise’s useable range, and with these values I am controlling FX parameters in the VCV Rack VSTi.
To date I’ve input the data manually into each line of a pattern, and I now have a working prototype. It’s slow going though and now I want to find a way to bulk input this data directly into the renoise xrns file. I have access to 20 years of data recorded in half hour increments, so yeah, an insane amount of data that I could potentially use.
My first step has been to try this on the smallest possible scale, so that I’m not changing anything coding wise, but only a single parameter value. I’ve tried it in this way:
Unzip the xrns file using unarchiver (on an M1 mac). i read that renoise files are renamed zip files, and it seems that they at least open in as zip files do.
Open the now revealed XML file in text edit.
Find a parameter in the “Lines” section of the code, and simply change this from say 6E to 6F. No other changes to code.
Save and close the XML file
Right click and compress the XML file so that it is now contained in a ZIP file. There is no sample data in the original file so no Samples folder to compress.
Change the extension on the resulting .zip file to .xrns so that it wlll open in Renoise.
When I go to open the file in Renoise, it recognises the extension, but won’t open the file. Error message is “Loading failed with the error:
Invalid Zip file!.”
This happens with XML files that i have unzipped and rezipped without changing the file. The edited xml files also open successfully in an XML specific editing program without errors.
If renoise files are really just renamed zip files, i don’t understand why the process wouldn’t work. There’s probably something really basic and fundamental that I’m missing here. Could it be in the way that I’m re-zipping the file?
Thanks in advance.

Render instrument to sample , plogue ops 7
When rendering the plogue ops to nstrument , the samples are only 500 ms long , while the settings are
duration: 500
Tail : 500
So it should be 1000 ms
Only happens with plogue ops 7

Anybody Know What the Largest Instrument Collection Has Been?
Just wondered if anybody knows what presently or in the past has been the largest sample-based instrument collection by any one person for any tracker?..
I was drawing a blank…
I say this because as I was creating instruments for Protrekkr today I noticed I was over 3,900 so I spent a bit more time topping 4,000…
Might be a record, might not…But it’s alot…My therapist states that “4,000 Instruments is ENOUGH and that I can move on with my life & enjoy family & an occasional nasty hot pocket”…Thus ending this endless OCD masturbatory instrument creation process…I’m CURED!!

Play from mouseselected samplepos in Sampleview
Efficiency issue - CPU at 24%, playing just two notes - Apple M1
Apologies for first question being something people have reported before. I’m trying to understand how to get efficient at working in Renoise.
My new M1 Macbook Air is fine, but entering two notes (instr>keys>piano) + Play = 24% CPU. This can’t be an accurate representation of use, surely?
My old intel Macbook Air shows high-20s %, running a relatively sparse arrangement of 5 tracks + FX.
What am I doing wrong?

Middle Mouse Click on Onscreen Piano should be different than Left Click
The Middle Mouse Click on the Onscreen keyboard should be to preform a glissando whereas the Left Click just depresses and stays on the note would be a neat option.

New tool (3.4.1 ) ReSpeak TTS
Hello,
I put it in the wrong forum before.
ReSpeak is a graphical extension to the TTS program Espeak.
It is an offline text-to-speech converter.
I think no further explanation is needed, the controls are sparse.
v0.02
- added buttons for executable file and temporary sample storage selections.
- the ability to keep the created wav file from espeak
- creating one or more samples for the instrument
- resolved an issue with loading into a multiline text field
cz.martblek.REspeak_v02.xrnx (5.1 KB)
Still tested on Linux, No Win or Mac here.
Every language and voice is set according to my setup for espeak.
Some languages and voices may not work for you.

User Created Tutorial Competition?
Just a thought really; I’ve looked through all the prepacked tuts, which are very valuable, and thought it’d be nice if there was some sorta crowdsourcing way to milk our collective brain teet and create a number of user created tutorials about topics that we think valuable to know.
I think it’d be super useful and feel like I’d learn more about this program than I thought possible at the time of writing this.

New Tool <REspeak>
Hello,
While waiting for the next version of Maciulxochitl
try “REspeak”.
cz.martblek.REspeak_v01.xrnx (4.1 KB)
It is a tool for creating samples using the TTS engine Espeak.
Tested on Linux.
But perhaps it will also work on windows if espeak is installed in the path.
I don’t use Mbrola phonemes yet.
I wanted something offline and I don’t have Google TTS paid, we’ll see in time
