Bug selecting samples

Renoise Forum - July 6, 2019 - 20:14

@Zooby wrote:

Hi guys.

Has anyone noticed a bug where when you select a different sample from the sample list at the top right it plays the remainder of the last sample selected for a very short time before playing the current one? Kinda gets in the way of creativity a bit. I’ve noticed that if you load up a VST the bug sort of goes away.

Cheers

New Tool (3.1): Missing Plugins Info Simplified

Renoise Forum - July 5, 2019 - 23:37

@Ledger wrote:

Adds an alternative entry to the Song menu for listing missing song plugins.

It lists FX plugins only once with no track info listed either, for easier visual scanning.

Known issue: Will list any user added text dividers in the instrument list as the tool has to check for text with no plug or sample slots present to ‘guess’ that it is a missing plug.

How do you select all instruments and drag them out into a folder?

Renoise Forum - July 5, 2019 - 21:04

@brinemeister wrote:

Is there a way to select all instruments in the instrument list and just drag them out of renoise into a folder?

Is there a way to do this with the sample list?

Otherwise I have to right click each individually and ‘save as’

OK, you've gotta give xStream a try!

So, being me, I’ve got a some heavy demands when it comes to granular sorts of effects in Renoise. I was asking for a tool that’d give me randomized start/end times to a sample. Well, there is ONE tool here that will do that (as far as I’m aware).

xStream

Now, many of you have probably already read that I am not a coder. I’m still not. There’s a preset in xStream that does a semi-granular sort of pattern effect (or song, if you want it to) process. And it has user-controllable sliders. And you can save it as a setting. The neat thing is it can keep running and changing subtly over the course of playback. And if you stop the process and add in another FX lane, you can add in even more stuff to randomly get adjusted (like 0Rxy stuff for little buzzes). Even if you don’t know Lua (like me), you can still adjust a TON of stuff and get some really nice patterns and soundbeds. Thanks @danoise for this device and the advice to use it and find the arg sliders!

Here’s a pic of a set of chords that I made after coming up with a light 'n breezy granular-esque pattern using the granular preset:

I used a simple sine-wave piano sound, utilized the Boite Diabolique chord generator, and all the while, xStream is providing a never-ending stream of randomized values to turn the sounds on/off, pan/delay/volume (gate) change the pattern. The only thing missing is a random value generator for sample/gate length (which would ultimately bring it to creating that type of granular micro-looper idea I’ve been begging for

To use this took very little effort and provides a lot of options. If you know how to program in Lua, you can definitely grab a ton more out of it!

Anyone know where I can get some baggy 3/4 length shorts?

Renoise Forum - July 4, 2019 - 13:49

Its summer, nice weather is coming back, started to feel too hot wearing jeans.
However, everywhere I go looking for shorts they are all those ‘short, shorts’, like above the knee length.

I always used to buy the baggiest possible skate shorts which are comfortable and ‘calf-length’ or ‘threee quarter length’ as some people call it.

I cant seem to find baggy 3/4 length shorts anywhere these days. Can someone recommend a particular skateshop or snowboard or surf shop online somewhere that still sells those ultra-baggy 3/4 length shorts?

cant find them anywhere

Linked Samples in the Instruments

Renoise Forum - July 4, 2019 - 00:35

@helltrack wrote:

It would be great if you could not just cmd+drag a sample in the instrument window to create a duplicate, but have also have a alt+drag option to create a sort of linked clone (like in the pattern matrix), who’s setting you can change independently, but as soon as you change the sample, it would change in every cloned instance as well.

so you could take a sample, quickly drag it down, pan them both left and right, transpose one a bit to get a very wide effect for example, but then you could also change quickly change the sample in both instrument layers.

Shift+Enter Shortcut to Insert Empty Pattern Row (to accompany Shift+Del Function)

Renoise Forum - July 1, 2019 - 23:31

@helltrack wrote:

I just discovered that pressing Shift+Del not just erases the note/data in the hovered (bright orange) pattern line in “Pattern Edit Mode”, but deletes the whole row and pushes all the notes underneath it upwards a single line.

It would be so nice if Shift+Enter would do the exact opposite and inserts a empty row at the hovered line, pushing the content of the hovered line a row downwards after one has pushed the shortcut.

This would be great to very quickly move and mangle a straight pattern without having to make selections and use the nudge feature and also would accompany the already existing Shift+Del function logically.

Shift+Enter doesn’t yet seem to have any function when pattern edit mode is active as well.

Edit: Also just realized that nudge works differently and pushes multiple notes into new note columns underneath the selection instead of just moving them down in the same note column.

Airwindows plugins (Chris)

Renoise Forum - July 1, 2019 - 16:33

@dspasic wrote:

Following regularly Chris’s work from “airwindows” - free plugins, most of them are not conventional, but are free and awesome sounding, he has streaming on his channel weekly few times, explaining concepts of anything literally that people ask, beside his plugins, as he develops some hardware stuff as well.
http://www.airwindows.com/

My question here is: is there a good chance of implementing some of his plugins as native devices in renoise?
he has au, vst, lv2… for all platforms, so it seems not as a big deal to implement them?

And are people aware of his work? there are a lot devices very useful, and free ofc
