Phrases: Groups, Ghost visualisation in PSM and Patterns
@Sinatra wrote:
Hi
I’m really hooked on Phrases. But I’d like to suggest some ideas that might help with the workflow.
-
Groups - When you create a Phrase. I’d like to see that Phrase as a group. That way, you can add/connect how many instruments as you want to that group. They will all play the original Phrase with the selected sound. This instead of having to duplicate a Phrase for a new instrument.
-
Ghost Visualisation - Have an non editable “ghost” representation/visualisation of the Phrase in the pattern editor and also in the Pattern Sequence Matrix (like normal tracks are visualised).

Most easy way to replace instr/fx with 64bit version / crossplatform exchange
@ffx wrote:
Hi,
some vendors switched a vst plugin later to 64 bit, so there are two versions of the plugin each with different plugin identifiers. Very often, the preset data still is compatible. AFAIK the usual way is to replace the identifier in the song xml.
But there is a much more comfortable way to do this. Just use the copy/paste buffer and a text editor. Example:
- Load TAL-Chorus-LX (32bit), change the parameters, and then copy the device
- Paste the content of the copy buffer to a text editor (Renoise copies everything in a nice XML format)
- Change all plugin identifier nodes from “TAL-Chorus-LX” to “TAL-Chorus-LX-64”.
- Copy the whole text in the editor and now paste it to Renoise
Notes:
- The same works for missing plugins while crossplatform exchange, e.g. “MeldaPlugin” vs. “MeldaPlugin.bin”. Just copy the slot which was not loaded properly.
- Also works for instruments
Maybe this already is obvious for you, but I actually never had this idea before
If you now were able to access the copy/paste buffer operations thru the LUA API, then I could write a “crossplatform auto-fixer” tool, which auto fixes all common crossplatform identifier problems.

Synth rock "Mykje vil ha meir" - critiques are welcome

Haven’t been here for some time. This is the first time I’ve done any music in Norwegian, I’ve gotten old enough that I couldn’t see myself using English anymore. If you’d like to listen and maybe point out weak or strong spots, I’ll be grateful. Some parts are a lot less than tight, but I kinda like the stumbling feeling at times.

Hello all. Had a short break from Renoise, back now with a new song :)
@chemeleon wrote:
So, I had to sell my studio PC a while back so that I could have money. All I had for a while was an android tablet, with which I experimented with Caustic DAW for a while. It’s surprisingly good and full featured and I got a couple of songs out of it, but ultimately limited in terms of expression of musical ideas compared to the awesome phrase editor of Renoise. (“Silhouettes and marionettes” and “Sleeping Spaces” on my SC if you’re interested in those).
Anyway, after somewhat of a hiatus, I got myself a pretty decent laptop and after couple of weeks of pressing buttons I came up with this. I guess it’s finished, I might add a little outro, but I thought I’d release it for public consumption anyways. Here you go

Another short piece. Real short this time. Seem to have developed loopitis and can’t really finish entire tracks anymore. Ah well. If anyone has any suggestions on where they think the track should develop to next let me know.

Some VST plugin fails to load with "Instantiate FAILED (caught structured exception)". What does this mean?
@jarzu3 wrote:
Has anyone had any luck fixing this issue (title) ? It keeps my vst from showing up in the plugin browser inside renoise.
The plugin works fine inside other daws.
I tried reinstalling the vst / renoise itself that didnt work.
i tried deleting vst cache and reinstalling renoise that didnt seem to work either.

How to make Pattern not jump to/from last/first line when navigating with the keyboard
@helltrack wrote:
Is there a way to disable that when moving around a single pattern, it automatically jumps from the last line back to the first and from the first to the last? makes me dizzy and I always go a bit to far.

The manual says that you can put Midi Modulation Commands in the right most FX Lane, does that mean you can only have one MIDI FX per step in the tracker view?

Serious question
@dspasic wrote:
can we invest some more effort together to make this forum a better place?
can you read carefully post before start asking questions?
-
or don’t even reply before you read carefully ongoing discussion? maybe it’s already answered, 1,2,3,X times?
maybe you need to read again? maybe you misinterpret it? but someone already did exactly that and it’s already discussed? -
can we stop avoiding (a bit serious) topics, and stop including your wishes and dreams into almost any topic?
i mean i don’t want the community to be policed, it’s just that every topic (no matter the subject) has great amount of toxicity…
- or you simply use wheel of fortune to communicate within forum? or is it formula? or hydra device?
- or should i leave again forum, since i’m having hard time… and i’m really investing a lot of time being on forum…

Sample-battle (#1)
@dspasic wrote:
Hi all,
i’m going to organize sample-battle alike competition.
Anyone can participate!
(i will provide material for initial battle)
Rules:
- Beat should be up to 2 minutes - or less - not longer!
- No VST(instruments) allowed (no sound generators except drawing sample within sampler, or chopping tiny oscillations from samples/drums)
- Nothing except provided material should be used in the making
- Material for next battle should be provided by the winner of the previous one. (within the new post on this topic
- Renoise should be the main daw
- Genre is not specified - and not important
- Share soundcloud link with the beat in the comment
- Vocals over track are allowed only if you record them (this doesn’t affect vocals within sample and drum breaks provided)
- Every other rule that is not mentioned - should be mentioned in .xrnns file as comment so everyone can see specific rules.
Material:
is contained within this xrns project
i find this the most compact way of sharing it, additional info and rules override can be written in the “comment” of xrns, deadline, etc…
Send, Receive, Track & Share Your Big Files with SendSpace file sharing!
-
drum break - up to 2 breaks
-
sample - up to 2 songs or truncated pieces
~ and everything else that you can make out of first two (drum break / sample)
Deadline: 2 weeks from the post date (1st Aug)
I hope that after a deadline, we can discuss your creativity process, and interesting stuff that you encountered/did in the making. I would also find interesting that the winner share his project (xrns) with us, and elaborate with small and brief overview of what and how he did.
note: please let me know if you have some suggestion regarding rules or anything.
