Advice for a USB soundcard for Linux/Android device
@Zite909 wrote:
Hi all,
Im thinking about re-designing my workflow and use more Renoise. Im looking for a decent USB soundcard with 2 stereo INs, that could work seamlessly on linux and eventually with an android tablet. It will be mainly used to sample hardware synth, and to apply real time FX to them. Do you have anything to recommand ?
Im not sure that it makes sense to use a USB soundcard with an android tablet but we never know
See you

MIDI2MV : Controlling Master volume via MIDI (Windows)
@strobotone wrote:
Hello people,
i´d like to share a little tool of mine : MIDI2MV
and hope that it might be useful to anyone of you.
Since i always wanted to be able to control the master output of an audio interface via MIDI controller,
i made this little helper:
It features an OSD…
…and a MIDI-Thru option.
The MIDI-Thru is helpful if you have a MIDI loopback device installed (like loopMIDI).
So you can use that port as MIDI-In in Renoise for example.
(SInce under Windows a MIDI port can only be opened exclusively by any one application)
Startup options and OSD display duration can be set in the settings
Please not that the project is rather old, so in case you find a bug - don´t hesitate to notify me.
Cheers!

Reaktor as effect on group track only writes automation envelopes
@gentleclockdivider wrote:
I noticed when using reaktor as an insert effect , it only records automation in the envelope lane and not in a pattern ( in this case a group )
All reaktor controls have assigned id’s etc… so that works flawlessly

World's Youngest Renoise User
@t35513r wrote:
Thought folks here might find this amusing. My daughter (who is 9 months now) showed an early affinity for Renoise. I watch her Thurs nights while the missus goes to work and, for the first 3-6 months, literally the ONLY surefire thing I could do to get her to not cry was to put on Renoise. Think it’s something about the amount of visual data/flashing colorful lights, but it turns out she also prefers certain music over others (slow soothing ballads? fuck no. the songs she responds to most were hyperkinetic, spastic joints…)
Anyway, over time, she’s continued to enjoy it, in a steadily more interactive way. Here’s her just shy of six months:

Redux changing phrase
@Kooshan wrote:
So there are 2 modes for phrases in redux ; program and keymap . But let’s say I don’t want to use the keymap mode to change phrases obviously because then i could not use different keys to transpose the pattern .in renoise you could easily change phrase in the pattern area by the Z command when needed .
But how do I change phrases in redux? I found no way to automate it .

Tips for using Renoise Live
@helltrack wrote:
How are you approaching Renoise for a live situation? Doesn’t seem easy to assemble finished tracks into one uninterrupted live set at the moment.
Only thing I’ve come up with is using PhraseMate to load phrases stored in instrument to the main editor and trying to assemble tracks live, but maybe some of you have different techniques that might be interesting.

Duplex: APC40 MKII
@jrod420 wrote:
Yoyoyo,
if I’m correct, there is no APC40 MKII layout for duplex. I just created the files if someone is interested:
Download:
APC40MKII.lua (3.4 KB)
APC40MKII.xml (15.8 KB)
MatrixEffectNavigatorTransportMixer.lua (4.4 KB)
How to install:
0) make sure you have installed Duplex (e.g. open Renoise, click “Tools”, then you should see and entry “~Duplex”)
- open Renoise
- click “Tools” then “Scripting Terminal & Editor…”
- in the terminal select Duplex folder: User Scripts -> Tools -> com.renoise.duplex -> Duplex
- right click on “Controllers” then “Reveal Directory in File explorer…”
- copy and paste folder “APC40” and rename to “APC40MKII”
- delete all files inside the new folder but keep the subfolders (“Controlmaps”, “Configurations”) and the file “APC40.bmp”. Rename “APC40.bmp” to “APC40MKII.bmp”.
- copy “APC40MKII.lua” and “APC40MKII.bmp” to folder “APC40MKII”,
- copy “APC40MKII.xml” to “Controlmaps”, copy “MatrixEffectNavigatorTransportMixer.lua” to “Configurations”
- in renoise click “Tools” -> “Reload all Tools”
- you should now be able to use APC40MKII (“Tools” -> “~Duplex” -> APC40 MKII)
Note: You can’t use the APC40 (MKI) file as the matrix buttons deliver different midi messages and also the sysex-midi-message is different. In the APC40MKII.lua file I changed the class to define some colors. Up to now I only defined some colors like green, red, blue, pink ect. but way more colors are possible with the APCMKII (feel free to modify the colors). I also created a .bmp file with the MKII picture but there is an error when duplex loads this file.
cheerz,
JRxd

Bi Directional Midi Controller Setup
@PrinzNika wrote:
Hey guys, sorry if this is something really obvious or has been asked before.
I am trying to get some basic midi mapping done in renoise and I am wondering how I can get a visual feedback on my midi controller.
I am using the launchpad and I want a key to be highlighted when I use the controller to toggle a function etc.
Sorry but I just dont know so much about midi yet

Windows: Keyboard repeat rate in pattern editor sometimes not working
@Jonas wrote:
I have encountered this behavior before, but it isn’t really reproducible. Sometimes when booting up Renoise, holding down a key on the computer keyboard wont enter in the note-events or values in the pattern editor while in edit mode for the duration you’re holding down the key. It will only enter one event and stop. It doesn’t seem to matter in what track, column of the track you’re in.
Minimizing Renoise and bringing it back up seems to fix this behavior, bringing back the repeat functionality.
(Windows 10, keyboard repeat rate in preferences Keys tab set to 5 ms, Gui scaling is set to 125%, limit frame rate to 60fps).

OSX: crash on song load
@centipus wrote:
Hello there
While browsing through some ancient song files that hadn’t been opened in years, I found that Renoise would crash immediately upon opening many of the xrns files. It doesnt happen on all songs, but the ones that produce the crash do so every time I attempt to open them. This happens while opening from Finder or the Renoise file browser. Using the Renoise file browser I can expand the xrns that cause the crash and browse their samples successfully but cannot open them without a crash. There’s really no steps to describe other than simply opening the xrns file from finder or the Renoise browser.
What do I need to provide to help diagnose this problem? Any assistance would be appreciated.
I’m using Renoise 3.2.1 a 2018 Mac Mini running OSX 10.14.6

Using Reason as slave - Problem using synths in Reason
@Garth_Knight wrote:
Hi All, I’m successfully using Reason as a slave as i want to use the PX7 synth rewired into Renoise.
All works fine but I keep having to go into Renoise track ‘MIDI’ tab and assign the output to the current reason synth preset
So When I change the preset on the Reason synth, I need to go back into Renoise MIDI tab and select the preset in the output section each time I try a new preset
Is there anyway to scroll through presets in the Reason synth without having to keep assigning the output in Renoise MIDI tab please ?
Cheers

[WIP] Fostex VM200 controller tool
@Rent_Demon wrote:
Hi,
I’m doing a tool to control the digital mixer Fostex VM200.
This is quite an old device, and you can find some used ones for fair price (around 200€).
Mine was sleeping for 10 years in a storehouse, but recently i plugged it again to raise my input amounts as i did afford new midi synth.
If any of you has this device, I’ll be pleased to share my tool for testing…
The state of the tool is early early experimental so you may have to put your eyes on lua files…
I don’t want to pollute the renoise forum file server with a tool in this state so you can PM me if you have the device and aim to collaborate…
