Famitracker / NSF Import Function

Renoise Forum - March 4, 2020 - 21:59

Hi. New to Renoise.
I make a lot of NES soundtracks, and was hoping renoise could simplify making modern sounding adaptations of them. Finding a way to import this data has been far more difficult than i’d hoped . Implementing a FTM or NSF Import function would be incredible . I can’t be alone in wanting this , can I ??

Renoise 3.2.1 unusable on macOS 10.14.6 due to skipped notes

Renoise Forum - March 4, 2020 - 00:42

@foma wrote:

Hi!
Please take a look at video comparison between 2.8.2 and 3.2.1 where I quickly bash chords:
https://youtu.be/Vk6jAnV2TNw
Both apps have “open in low-resolution” ticked in Finder properties and have identical settings.
3.2.1 simply fails to register notes. UI feels less responsive in general as well.
I’ve tried everything: low- and high-dpi modes, auto/manual scaling, fps limits on/off, windowed/maximised/fullscreen mode.

Note that 2.8.2 is also laggy when “open in low-resolution” is not ticked.

My machine is MacBook Pro 15" 2018.
Any ideas?

I do a lot of composition for NES games in Famitracker, and I was hoping to find an easy-ish way to import song data from Famitracker in order to make modern sounding versions of my soundtracks. Has anyone done this?? HELP!

Thanks in advance

Harmonic Engine vs Moog Werkstatt

Renoise Forum - March 3, 2020 - 11:11

@midierror wrote:

Using the Circuitbenders Harmonic Engine with a Moog Werkstatt to create some glitchy undertones, chiptune-esq bleeps and all round analog fatness! An amazing little effects unit which is a clone of the E&MM Harmony Generator, which outputs a squarewave based on the input signal, at variouys harmonic intervals.

Used here with the super powerful Moog Werkstatt, with no talking and absolutely no effects on top of anything you see here.

Enjoy!

Using MIDI notes to change pattern

Renoise Forum - March 3, 2020 - 09:03

@midierror wrote:

Hi
This seems like a simple idea, and totally possible in redux. A friend and I took hours to set it up and it wouldnt work!

We have one drum break, and have sliced it up in different ways using 8 patterns. We want to trigger each pattern from one specific MIDI note.

Is this possible???

Thanks

Newbie Question: Double Pattern Length

Renoise Forum - March 1, 2020 - 02:06

@OlafFerguson wrote:

Hello! I’m new to Renoise and its so far the answer to all of my musical needs.

Is there a way to double the pattern length without expanding the pattern?

If I have:

C04
C04
G05
C04

is there a quick way to make it:

C04
C04
G05
C04
C04
C04
G05
C04

Or is there a better way to work with Renoise?

Thank you

MIDI Controller tutorials?

Renoise Forum - February 28, 2020 - 14:10

@AntonioCole wrote:

I’ve made all my stuff with just my mouse and keyboard, but I’m a keyboardist and constant finger-drummer and want to start playing around with Renoise in a more natural and seat-of-the-pants way, even if it’s just recording small sequences at a time. Are there some good, relatively idiot-proof tutorials on using controllers in conjunction with Renoise?

Renoise is the only DAW I’ve ever really used, so I apologize if the question seems dumb or weirdly-worded.

I own an MPC500 that for whatever reason I have never touched, and this would likely be the controller of choice since I’m short on cash right now.

Should I learn the ins and outs of it before I start using it together with Renoise? Or are the two uses completely different?

Thanks!

Manually enter MIDI CC number?

Renoise Forum - February 28, 2020 - 14:10

@XanderMish wrote:

Is there a way to manually enter the CC number when setting MIDI controls in Renoise (i.e, not using the “Learn Mode”)? I am sending MIDI out from TidalCycles to Renoise so whenever I try to use Learn Mode it just picks up the MIDI notes/other CC values. My current solution is to add a bunch of Hydras with the correct MIDI CC controls, and then save that as the Template. It works but its pretty gross and not very easy to edit live.

If there is no way atm, would it be possible to make a tool to do it? I know a bit of Lua but have yet to try it in Renoise.

Update: found out that you can control a ton of stuff using OSC, so I’ve written a lua script to deal with the information coming in from TidalCycles.
