Fabien Schivre (Renoise DSP & Tokyo Dawn Labs)
Hi
Today i’ve got reply from Fabien (the maker of TDR plugins ) (the only plugins i swear by)
my question was about his effort in the terms of Renoise DSP programming, whereas he replied:
Hi Dusan,
yes, I built a few effect modules, the maximizer, the bus compressor, and I think also a saturator. But this stuff is super old and I haven’t found the time to contribute to renoise since then.
also i’ve asked him if there is possibility that he might involve again in the future for the DSP programming…
while still waiting for his answer, i’d also like to ask @taktik if this is possible at some point? (i guess this is marginal question, but i’m highly interested in such topic).
Thanks

How to make this sound
There is an amazing synth line that starts at 0:03. It’s the main melody of the song.
Anyone have an idea what type of synthesis that is or how to recreate it?

Recrods multiples MIDI parameters on pattern effect column
Hello to all.
I use Renoise 3.2.2.
I would like to record VST instrument parameters with a controller (Arturia Keylab MKII) but i need to record on pattern and not with enveloppe automation.
The goal is to record pitchbend, modwheel and expression (with traditionnal midi cc for the last one).
I’ve tried enveloppe automation but i would like to use the real pitchbend and modwheel control, not a fader or rotary know to send cc, plus the way i’ve configured the controller allow me to use rotary knob only for controlling devices parameters and expression is mapped on a fader, which is far better for my taste.
I don’t want to change my MIDI configuration only for the expression control.
That’s why i would like to use pattern effect column.
Then the problem is that i can’t record on a second effect column. I tried to go on the second column with the cursor but everytime it’s recorded on the first one.
Is that normal?
(note that all parameters records corretly)
I use the midi learn function of the VST instrument and then would like to records on multiples column but i’m not sure it’s possible with instrument…
Thanks for any help!

Creative Routing Suggestion
Would it ever be possible that Renoise would allow routing to “previous” send tracks?
And by “previous” I mean, send tracks to the left of another send track. I’m sure everyone knows that you can’t route the output of one send track to another that is “before” (or to the left of) another send. It would be awesome if that were allowed so people want to experiment with feedback synthesis (like Karplus Strong) can add textures and effects till their heart is content.
I messed around Karplus Strong in Ableton after my homie from Detroit showed me. The whole time I was like “I gotta do this in Renoise”. Apparently a lot of Detroit Techno producers love Karplus Strong.

Reason Rack VST GUI Only Reopens with 2 Toggle Cycles of 'Editor' Button
Hi, when i load up a Reason VST instance as an instrument, after i close the window that opens automatically on loading, i have to click the editor toggle on and off once before the editor will open again. It’s like Renoise isn’t seeing that i have closed the editor window manually. But even if i close the editor window by using the toggle button it still makes me toggle it on and off one cycle before the window will open on the next ‘on’ toggle. It’s a bit hard to explain. Something is out of sync somewhere. It doesnt happen with other VST3 instruments.

Phase distortion synthesis in Renoise [VST3]
Hello!
The latest update has brought more than just the ability to create more creative compressor experiences. For example, if you use phase distortion with a send from the side chain, then you can start creating your own full synthesizers.
PD_BASS.xrni (4.5 KB)
for this you need a simple plugin from the company Kilohearts
Kilohearts Kilohearts | Phase DistortionAre you tired of only warping signal amplitude like a pleb? Phase Distortion is here to deliver phase melting mayhem!

New Renoise user first track Strings and Acid
Some down tempo acidy sort of track
Instrumentals done in Reaper, but first real dive into Renoise for drums and break. Using dirty 505 samples for drums to off set against lush strings.

Max4Live Devices
Hey everyone,
I know it’s a bit stupid to post Max4Live devices here, but maybe some users have both bits of software.
The first is MetroStep - a MIDI note trigger sequencer
and the other is AFX Mode which sends up to 4 MIDI CCs for each note press on the keyboard.
I hope you like them. I put SO MUCH time into developing these. Just pleased to get the videos out there.
Thanks for looking!

Can't save my work
Hi,
So just upgraded my PC and version of Renoise, now on Windows 10 with Renoise 3.3, and now can’t seem to save / update an existing project. I can create a project using save as, but later on when I try to save progress it pops up with two stages of message.
The first says: “destination folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action”.
I have two options, ‘try again’ or ‘cancel’. Try again does nothing so I click cancel and it then produces this message:
“saving failed with error. The song was successfully saved but could not be moved to its final destination. Please make sure there is enough free space on the disk”.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Same VST on Windows/OSX not the same in Renoise
Recently I have started going back and forth between my desktop PC and my MacBook, trying to keep most of my plugins installed on both machines to continue working on projects from either.
While this seems to work fine with most of them (Sylenth, Nexus, Kontakt etc.) there is the odd one which is not recognized by Renoise as being “the same”, which in my case is Cableguys’ PanCake which apparently is named “PanCake2-64bit” on Windows and “PanCake2” on OSX.
I tried changing the name of the plugin listed in the track DSP panel’s plugin selector but that seems to be cosmetical only. Renaming the file itself does not affect this behaviour either of course.
When trying to copy and paste the settings from the disabled Windows instance to the one I can add on OSX Renoise tells me that it cannot copy settings from an PanCake2-64bit device to a PanCake2 device (which wouldn’t even solve the initial problem but it was worth trying I guess).
While this is probably not directly related to Renoise maybe somebody here has run into a similar issue? Maybe there is a way to tell Renoise that a certain plugin should be run under an alias?

Where to find crashlog?
Renoise 3.3.1 crashes every time on me when using Plugin Grabber to render a lot of samples from a VST instrument. I’d like to troubleshoot but can’t find the crashlog – any pointers would be helpful!
The crash seems to be related to how many samples I’m grabbing, the crash doesn’t happen with few short samples, and happens every time if I try to grab something like 6 octaves chromatically. The crash occurs every time at 99% completion. (win 10 x64, ltsc 2019)
If you want to try to reproduce I had these settings:
– don’t remove plugin after grab
– grab 6 octaves chromatically, 1 velocity layer
– 8000 ms length
– 2000 ms tail
– no loop

White noise/native synthesis challenge
Hi all
Thought it might be fun to drop a challenge on everyone… The premise is simple. Create a complete track starting from one sample only: white noise. All synthesis should be done with native renoise dsp. Resampling is allowed, waveform generation via the ringmod synthesis trick is allowed, all other forms of renoise native synthesis are allowed and encouraged. ALL percussion elements must also be generated from white noise. No other samples, starting waveforms, or plugins allowed at any point in the process!
The idea being that this can be an opportunity to explore the boundaries of renoise’s synthesis capabilities, tease out some amazing sounds from the most humble building block, and ideally, make some bangerz.
Anybody in?
No time limits, no prizes, all styles welcome, just some good old-fashioned nitty-gritty sample-based synthesis tweakery.
HONOR SYSTEM: By posting below, I hearby solemnly swear to use/have used only white noise as a starting point for native renoise synthesis and sound design in any piece of music posted in this thread.
I’ve got a piece in the works using only white noise as a starting point for every sound, and will post it here when it’s fully cooked.
Hope you take up the challenge!
peace,
zensphere

Renoise x64 defaulting to 32-bit VST3
Hi,
I’ve had my eye on Renoise for some time now, but with the release of 3.3, finally pulled the trigger and bought it! I’m currently running 64-bit 3.3.1 on Windows 10.
Just now I installed the Spitfire LABS plugin, which comes in four flavours: 32 & 64-bit VST2, and 32 & 64-bit VST3. Unfortunately their installer doesn’t have options to control this; you get all four. My install paths for VST3 plugins are the defaults - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3 for 32-bit, and C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 for 64.
Opening up Renoise after installing LABS, I saw it detected a new VST3 instrument, which is great - however, on loading it in, I noticed it was the 32-bit version. There is only one entry for it in my plugins list - it doesn’t show the VST2 versions, or the 64-bit VST3. In the end, I forced it to load the 64-bit VST3 by going into my 32-bit plugin folder and renaming the file (.vst3 -> .vst3.bak). After re-scanning for plugins in Renoise, and loading in LABS again, I get the 64-bit version.
Are there options somewhere that I missed that control the hiding/showing of multiple versions of the same plugin? Or an option to make Renoise default to 64-bit plugins when available? Defaulting to 32-bit VST3 in the 64-bit version of Renoise seems counter-intuitive, at best.
