A suggestion about vst effect aliases

Renoise Forum - January 23, 2021 - 00:34

Certain vst effects can accept midi notes and so we create a vst fx alias to trigger these ( for example cytomic the drop for triggering envelopes ) .
Now , when the instrument is just a renoise instrument and the effect is loaded into the mixer track , we can create a vst fx alias in the same instrument slot as the instrumentt (see screenshot )
So by playing this instrument , we trigger the instrument and the midi data to the effect both at the same time , verry handy indeed
BUt when the renoise instruments is replaced with a vst instrument , we can’t put both in the same container since the vst effect alias replaces the instrument .
It would be great if we could do that on regular vst instrument

Anyone wants Serum presets?

Renoise Forum - January 22, 2021 - 18:06

I don’t say that my presets are better than others, I just created them because I needed some of them. I was surprised when I first time used Serum how default presets are… strange. I needed something nice and clean (or aggressive and loud, but still usable). Normal instruments for playing bass, solos, plucks, chords etc.

DIRECT DOWNLOAD

over 100 presets (sometimes they differ only a little)

Price: 0$ (it’s about 0 euros).

Just leave some comment (private or public) if you like them.

Most of them are volume-sensitible (and sometimes modwheel sensitible), so you may try to change pressure (or mod wheel) to test changes.

PREVIEW
In preview I was using only my Serum presets (not all of them), including “drums” (but drums are not included in zip, because they was created only for this demo and a little crappy).

Additional info - DEMO SONG has not so much sense, it’s not for showing full range of possibilites, but for demonstrate individual sounds.

IDAM Port Os x problems

Renoise Forum - January 22, 2021 - 14:43

Hi
Someone is using Ipad with the IDAm port of os x? . It recognizes the audio ports in the Renoise preferences, in audio input: I select my IDAm setup in Renoise, and midi port( the midi is perfect,) but the audio does not. I insert the line input into the channel I see the Idam ports but when assigning the Idam inputs to the line input, no IDam input sounds to me, can someone help me? It is clear that something is escaping me.
Thank you

What is your hardware 'dream setup' in audio domain?

Renoise Forum - January 21, 2021 - 14:46

for me personally it would be the following:

  1. Yamaha p115 for midi(owned new one, and sold for no particular reason… i still regret it) - or any in that range…
  2. Akai mpc X
  3. 27’ monitor (Dell UltraSharp 27: U2715H) with common pc setup (reason: tracking audio/midi in mixbus 32c - most likely archlinux)
  4. DT880 (i own dt770 for a long time, but i’d love a change!)
  5. Yamaha HS7/HS8 (i wouldn’t be disappointed even if it was HS5)
  6. Tascam 16x8

what about you boys and girls?

What is YOUR definition of good/bad music?

Renoise Forum - January 20, 2021 - 14:47

Hi everyone,

What norms do you consider when declaring that some tune is ‘pure trash’ or ‘pure gold’?

for me personally there are some personal factors:

  • the pitch (does not apply to microtonal stuff obviously, or if the writer had intention to provoke some ‘annoying’ state by listening the tune (movie effects for example) )
  • the form of the tune (that depends on the genre)
  • the complexity of the melody
  • the counterpoint (to a certain level - basic)
  • choice of sounds, not in the sense of pitch - but in the sense of spectral coloration
  • the overall impression by difference of main and background elements
  • the main purpose/intention behind the ‘music/tune’ - this can override all the previous points

Of course - that partially depends on the current mood… Sometimes i can value a ‘song’ just by the mood & purpose of it, aside all the technical stuff…

What’s your view on this?

Bristol (free) synths (for linux)

Renoise Forum - January 20, 2021 - 12:05

Hi everyone!
I just stumbled upon this (free) suite of synths.

bristol.sourceforge.net Bristol Audio Onepager
Since i’m not on linux, can anyone give me an overview of how they sound/behave under Renoise/Ardour?
i’m excited, because the library of synths is huge + it’s free…

edit: ok i see now that some plugins are ‘not operable’ from the page (mixer), but looking at the homepage and the list looks so damn awesome:)

Thanks

Recording a note OFF delay in the pattern editor

Renoise Forum - January 19, 2021 - 19:53

Hi,
I’d like to record a Note OFF at the same line as a note trigger, but with a delay, in order to have a shorter-than-one-line trigger.
Is it possible to do that without cranking up the LPB to 8, 16, 32 or even higher for very short notes?
Note that I don’t want a volume cut (as is obtained with the CXX sample command) but a note OFF with the same behaviour as any other note-OFF

Offtopic talk from "I would like to hear your music made with Renoise and other Daws"

Renoise Forum - January 19, 2021 - 19:19

I spent a lot of time browsing and listening to music from this topic and I am broken.

Is it really (with few exceptions) everything what people made now? Noisy modern techno-like styles or chillout-ambient background music without any content? Almost without any melody (riffs / themes / whatever you call it) so safe that it may be play on three keys? It’s like listening Reggae, Rock or Metal with one riff that repeats over and over.

No, really, instead of spending 4 hours of finding good instrument and preset that plays nice by itself, most of people here should spend that time to learn how to come up with some interesting. It may be crazy jazz theme, synthwave theme solo using three octaves or more, aggressive unusual theme, rock riff that is unique etc.

Less pomposity in searching for majestic sounds, more composing! Sometimes people want to just listen something interesting, not just testing expensive headphones .

It’s just my personal opinion. Nobody must agree with that.

PS. I’m just listening that “Welcome Home” song and it’s surprisingly nice and fresh, even if mixing/mastering is probably much worse than other songs here.

Best Drum Pad Sp1200/MPC style controller?

Renoise Forum - January 19, 2021 - 17:22

Hope you all good.

I am looking for a basic (basically not Maschine or anything over $200) drum pad sequencer that I can use with Renoise. I understand that any controller will work but I am looking for sth that I can throw a few samples into using my PC and then turn off the screen and make some simple hip hop style beats. The ability to control pitch/volume and play/record is pretty much all I want.

I am not looking to ‘replace’ Renoise with this, I just want to be able to come up with some basic rhythms that I can then work on properly (meaning turn monitor back on) and craft the rhythms more with VSTs etc.

I was thinking about IRIG Pads or AKAI MPD, or even sth a little more obscure like this https://www.musicexpress.pl/pl/product/17466,dna-m-pad-przenosny-interfejs-kontroler-midi-usb

Forgive my description of needs, hope it is understandable.

Thanks in advance.
