Few productivity questions about pattern editor and hotkeys
I could not figure these out myself so here goes:
Can you select individual track sections (volume, delay, effect column) for the whole duration of a single pattern with a hotkey? There’s a way to cycle selections for these parts, but the selection keeps extending only to 1/2 of the pattern’s length (or to whatever the pattern looper is set to, but it cannot be set to 1/1 as far as I know).
Is there a way to insert effect (or anything for that matter) for the rest of the pattern under active cursor. So let’s say I want to fade a string with Oxy effect. Usually I want this effect to reach to the end of the pattern with value O00. It would be nice if I could quickly insert O00 all the way to the end of the pattern with a single command. I hope that makes sense.

Render Tracks with Group and Send Effects
In order to use Renoise’s “Render Song To Disk” feature to produce stems, the “Save each track into a separate file” isn’t very useful since it renders each track isolated from effects added to groups and sends that track is a part of.
While that sort of 100% dry rendering may be useful to some, I would expect most people to find it more useful that each track is rendered as though it was soloed in Renoise, with parent groups, sends, etc., and all of their effects active.
It would still not become 100% perfect due to Signal Follower and other interdependent track effects being disabled, but independent effects such as compression, EQ and reverb would still be applied, making the render much more useful as a stem.
I’ve searched, but not been able to find a plugin that does this.

Custom Textures
I hope this fits the topic, if not, feel free to move.
I made a custom Texture pack to be used with the default theme, but could be used with whatever other themes too:
‘CubicColors2021’
Custom Texture for Renoise 3.3.1
Rainbow colors with Cubism and HSV noise filters applied using GIMP.
Might work for older versions too.
Put this folder in linux:
/usr/local/share/renoise-3.3.1/Skin/Textures/
Then chose ‘CubicColors2021’ from Textures in Preferences->Theme.
Adjust Knob Shade, Body Shade and Contrast sliders to taste.
Try max values.

Midi CC to multiple parameters
Hello
I’m going to try to make it short.
In Logic i would map a midi controller to an equaliser parameters, when loading the same equaliser on another track the parameters would be automatically mapped the same way as on the 1st track. The midi controller would only work on the equaliser of the selected track.
Is it possible to work the same way in Renoise?
I have gone through the manual and have searched online but could not find any clear information regarding this subject.
Hope that was clear, i’m not an english native.
Thanks in advance, any help would be really appreciated.

Assign instrument samples to specific tracks when recording
Hi. I have a drum instrument that has around 8 samples in it, each assigned to a key zone. I want to freestyle record (not record kicks on their own into one track, then snares in another) but I want to assign which track each sample will be inserted into. I don’t want Renoise to just dump all the triggers into one track. I want them seperate. Can this be done?

BlueArp plugin - conflict with external synth automation
I’m probably missing something simple with this one, but I can’t work it out. I have the BlueArp plugin routed to an external synth, a Korg Monoloque. When I try to record some filter changes to the synth with the arpeggiator running, it cancels out the arpeggiator?! It makes no difference if I select either when I’m recording. Any ideas greatly appreciated, thanks!

What Renoise 3.X.X.X REALLY needs (sarcastic/troll version)
I think Renoise really just needs to be rewritten from the ground up to be exactly the same as Ableton Live and Bitwig and Logic and FL Studio and ProTools. Like EXACTLY the SAME. But keep the price the same as it is now. Maybe make it cheaper. I don’t know anything about programming in general, but DSP/GUI coding is easy peasy, so this shouldn’t be that hard or time consuming for a one man development team.
Also, Piano Roll. But, its still a Tracker so I can look cool and be all “I totally use this niche Tracker DAW” only its not a tracker anymore because it uses a piano roll, but its still a “tracker”. I don’t really like Trackers. But I also want to use Renoise.
Also, hire everyone from every major PLugin developer so I can have Izotope/FabFilter/Waves/NativeInstruments inside stock Renoise… but again, keep it the same price.
Also, Modular. Like Hardware Modular, only its in Renoise. Who even uses Samples anymore? Replace Renoise’s (end sarcasm) fantastic sampler (resume sarcasm) with an FM/Granular/Subtractive/Additive synth engine, that again, probably wouldn’t even be that hard to code and that I definitely can’t buy anywhere else to add that functionality like I would with EVERY other DAW. Like, come on man.
But really, I like Renoise just the way it is, only I want it to be like exactly opposite of how it is.
FIN
Thank you, thank you… I’ll be here all week.

Lo Fi Hip Hop track
I thought this time I would make a video capture of the Renoise project. Bit more interesting to watch than a still image. Was trying to make a track that was chilled out with a bit of a lo-fi vibe.

Madonna - Like A Prayer (House Remix)
Evening all,
I’ve knocked up a house remix of a track from a little known artist named ‘Madonna’. In the unlikely event that you have heard of her, it’s one of her less well known tracks named ‘Like A Prayer’.

Gem Dopamine Sliders gone
so, i haven’t noticed this like in ages, cuz i haven’t been using this tape-like saturation effect much.
with the buzz-vst3-workaround solution i had all them sliders when clicking on “Show/Hide Parameter Sliders”.
this pulldown menu doesn’t exist anymore when using gem dopamine vst3 properly with renoise v3.3.
i dont know if it’s a bug or not. but it did work before.
as you can see, the pulldown(or pullup) button doesn’t exist, but there are more than 3 values which can be adjusted. they’re not showing up, though.

(3.3.1) Follow player position crash (scroll)
Windows 10 x64. This was with the demo because my license just expired. It only happened recently as I use this feature a lot.
Edit mode or not, with song loaded or new song. It’s a sudden crash with no warning…
I tried restarted renoise too many times. Now I think I really broke it. It ask if I want to load the backup because it didn’t shutdown correctly and crashes after clicking yes or no.
I looked at the log: Application: Init OK
Exception: Failed to load bitmap 'C:\Program Files\Renoise 3.3.1\Resources\Skin\Icons/Transport_PatternFollowOff.bmp' (file failed to open or maybe no longer exists). CrashLog: 0000000000000001: ??? +00000 CrashLog: 0000000000000002: ??? +00000 Application: Caught an unhandled fatal exception (Thread: GUI)! Application: Saving a backup... Error Message: A fatal error or crash occurred (unhandled exception in thread: GUI).4 posts - 2 participants
Bending of envelopes tempo dependent?
While noodling around with the pitch envelopes and bending, it seems to me that the bending of the lines is tempo dependent in any case, even in non-sync-mode, but shouldn’t. It differs by bpm. Or is this happening because the bending points use the pattern’s “grid resolution”?

Dealing with "CC Pairs" and hardwired midi mapping
since i use a novation summit with renoise, following questions have risen:
Prerequisites: Renoise 3.3.1, Novation Summit connected via USB, no active midi mappings
-
when tweaking Summit’s “OSC1 Course”, Midi CC 14 is being sent to renoise which is happily received by the instrument editor’s Key-Scale option and therefore cycles through its various key options. this happens unintentionally and i have not found a way to stop the instrument editor from receiving this and other CC (CC15 & CC9 will also change scaling / quantization stuff). please let me know if i’m missing something here.
-
Summit supports 255 unique values for single parameters like “Frequency Cutoff” and sends CC29 from 0-127 and CC61 toggling between 0 and 64 for every CC29 increment, to end up with 255 different values. afaik it’s called “CC Pairing” and it seems that renoise will always receive the secondary “on/off” portion (CC61) of the pair, which in return ends up in a switch-like behaviour of the learned target parameter, which is of course not what i am looking for. is there a way to edit the CC61 to CC29 afterwards?
thanks in advance.

Beatsync / Time Stretch adjustment from Pattern Editor
I don’t think this is something the end-user can do. I was fiddling around with a loop, and found that I can adjust its length of playback time in the ‘Beatsync’ area, along with keeping same pitch. Then I was looking at the actual number of lines it’s syncing to, and I then wondered -
Is there a way to adjust this number from the Pattern Editor?
Nothing apparent. It would be handy to be able to take a loop and stretch it from the Pattern Editor, could make all sorts of neat loop adjustments.
Maybe I’m missing something?

What and why do you use for mastering in Renoise
Hi there,
I was just curious how you are dealing with mastering in Renoise.
Are you using Renoise devices, plugins? Or do you prefer mastering outside Renoise?
By myself I do both. I have two default mastering chaines made up of Renoise devices. But also many times I prefer to export multitrack and mix and master in a Linair DAW.
How is yours?

Controlling a VST's program or bank via MIDI controller
Could anyone help me understand how I can use my MIDI controller keyboard’s buttons to shuttle through available sound banks and presets in a VST? The closest I can get is to use Prg-Change slider in MIDI control that corresponds to the patch number of the VST. But when I assign it to a button it goes from 1 to 127. What I want is to assign one button to increase the pPrg-Change each time I press it, and another button to decrease it each time I press that.

A couple of suggestions for future updates!
I know how much the dev(s) work on Renoise, and I love it so much. However, it would be super nice if there were options in Renoise to:
- Assign an instrument to a particular track and hide all instrument columns
- Move the pattern editor further to the left side, such that the only thing showing on it is the orange boxes
- Double click to select a track
- Ctrl + Mousewheel to change pitch when a note is selected
- Have the delete key delete everything in a selection
These are just very minor nitpicks, but honestly they would speed up a lot of people’s workflow in my opinion, especially because these
are common options in other popular trackers, such as Fasttracker and Famitracker. Thanks!

MIDI Monitor to show mapped features
Hi. It’s easy to forget wich Button, Slider & POT is mapped to wich function.
I think it would be nice to see in the MIDI monitor, a column showing “Mapping”
When you move a controller or press a button you will se in the monitor if you have mapped it or not.
The MIDI mapping window is small and it takes time to figure out which CC or note represent what on your MIDI Controller
