Setup separate midi routing for two midi controllers
Hi,
I have an APC40 connected, which I use for Grid Pie and some other midi mapped things like filter sliders etc.
I have an Novation ZeroSL which I want to use only for 2 instruments, I send midi cc’s and notes to the instruments and that works fine.
The problem is, that when I push a button on the APC40, a note on/off is also sent to the instruments which I only want to use with the ZeroSL controller.
Is it possible to tell Renoise to only accept midi notes from the ZeroSL for the two instruments?
I’ve tried setting up the APC40 only in the preferences window (midi input) and the ZeroSL explicitly in the intstrument midi setup. But the instruments still respond to the APC40.

How do I color code song comments?
Is there a way to change the color of the text in a song comment or instrument info? I tried looking in the manual but it does not speak of these features at all.

Rave Generator 2 not working on Windows
Okay, so here’s my problem:
I can’t load up Rave Generator 2, not just in Renoise, but in any DAW I try to load it in. Whenever I try doing so, not only does it just refuse to load, but it makes the DAW in question start acting weird whenever I try to close it. I literally have to go to the Task Manager to close the DAW.
However, it USED to work, until I tried to load in my own samples (Rave Generator 2 has a feature where you can essentially use it as a rompler). After I did that, it stopped working, and I bet this has something to do with why it doesn’t work anymore. I’ve looked for people that have had issues with this VST similar to mine, but to no avail.
I just want to know how I could possibly fix this. I’ve gotten into contact with the maker of the VST, but communication has been a little slow, and I have no idea how to fix the issue.

Voxengo Causing Crashes
Hello, I occasionally get some warnings indicating that a Voxengo plugin crashed Renoise with the following statement:
Warning Message: IMPORTANT: This is a fatal error. Please save the current document under a !new! name to prevent losing important data. Renoise will silently ignore any following errors from this plug-in.
Warning Message: DO NOT IGNORE THIS ERROR; DO NOT CONTINUE USING THE PLUGIN. THIS CAN DESTROY YOUR SONG OR CAUSE OTHER RANDOM CRASHES AND PROBLEMS!
Should I get concerned? It happens rather sporadically, no biggie and hasn’t caused any real issues so far, but the warning makes it sound pretty serious. Happened to me when using VariSaturator and TEOTE. Upon reloading the project, I continue to use the plugins and see no negative impact whatsoever.

Renoise on Mac – fix for poor graphical performance!
Renoise had poor graphical performance on macOS ever since I switched to Retina macbook a few years ago.
When I was on 10.14 Mojave, setting a tick to run app in ‘low resolution mode’ helped without making app blurry (it looked pixel perfect). However, it looks like filtering algo was adjusted for Big Sur, and Renoise is now unusably blurry in low res mode.
Luckily, I found a solution that makes Renoise perform well without low res mode, and even with HiDPI support on – you just have to switch display profile from ‘Color LCD’ to ‘sRGB IEC61966-2.1’, that’s it!
If you have several profiles called ‘sRGB IEC61966-2.1’, choose one that shows ‘/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/sRGB Profile.icc’ path when hovered.
Tested with Renoise 3.3.2

Crackling and popping with Convolve VST
When using Acon Digital’s Convolve VST (bundled with Acoustica) I get cracks and pops at relatively low CPU usage, even less than 5%. This doesn’t happen with other VSTs, where I can go a lot higher before any crackling occurs.
Steps to reproduce:
- make a track with a sample that produces sounds
- put a few (3+) instances of Convolve on it
It can be a send too.
It happens with both VST2 and VST3 versions, although I mostly tried with the latter.
Windows 10, Renoise 3.3.1, Acoustica 7.3.9.

Visual bug: resizing panel changes root drive letter
I encountered a weird bug:
When resizing the browser panel on the right the drive letter changes from C to D.
Here’s a pic to see what I mean:
When the panel is expanded the address is correct: C:\Program Files…
But when the panel is shrunk a little bit so that the whole address doesn’t fit, C changes to D.
I tried to reproduce this on a different system, but I couldn’t, so I guess it’s specific to my system, but IDK what it could be. The install is relatively new and I didn’t make many tweaks.
Windows 10, Renoise 3.3.1.

Slowly losing your hearing?
Well, I am apparently losing it…
Couldn’t figure out why my mix was unbalanced like 1-2dB louder on the left side, began to think my audio interface has seen its last days so I made an experiment hard panning a simple sound left and right to test if its balance was working properly, but wow I didn’t expect to hear almost different notes playing I have tested this on multiple headphones and systems, so it’s my ears.
To me the left side is slightly louder and higher toned than on the right, sucks getting old, getting closer and closer to 50

Empty Instruments folder?
Hello!
Is it normal that i have an empty instruments folder after Renoise installation? Renoise not brings any instruments with by default? In samples folder only a few drumloops. i keep in mind that i have much samples and instruments with older Renoise version out of the box.

Extreme constant cycling between tracks
All of a sudden, my renoise keeps rapidly cycling between tracks in every mode and preset and regardless of the song. It cycles so fast that I can’t edit a single track without it automatically moving to the next track. This never happened before, and I don’t recall updating anything. I tried uninstalling all tools, deleting the Config file and reinstalling Renoise. Any suggestions???

I guess what always bugged me about renoise development were the really big missing aspects like piano roll option (use either like Dreamstation II, Aero Studio, or implement ingenious VERTICAL piano roll like Aodix)…

Problem is that not everyone hates them…If you can choose between then who cares?
Other issue is that being 20 years old renoise should be able to handle EVERY sampler format out there & not have to use others to get the job done…
But that is small prob I guess…For those who wish to have piano roll as close as can be inside renoise you probably heard of Sonic Bytes Phrazor? A phrasing plugin that is all piano roll…
Yeah, No longer available & was commercial BUTT!..There is still grabbable a Preview Beta5c that never expires…yup, all free & all that…
It’s actually better cause it is not system integrated it’s all in a single folder in VST plugs dir so is also portable in that way as well…

An alternative to hexadecimals(maybe?)
An alternative idea to hexadecimals: color coded numbers - for instance, white 00-99 is 00-99, red 00-99 is 100-199, blue 00-99 is 200-299, and so on. No need to translate any hexadecimals to binary, just know what color pertains to what number set. And it would greatly increase resolution past 255.
I’m still very new to tracking, but this seems to be feasible. Maybe follow ROYGBIV, or whatever color scheme the user prefers.
This is no feature request of course, but maybe far down the line as an alternative. Or in some new tracker. Am I missing something, or would this work?

Presonus plugins anyone?
I installed Presonus’ Fat Channel XT (using Presonus Hub) but it’s not showing up in Renoise (it does in Ableton Live). VST3 folder contains ‘PreSonus VST3 Shell.vst3’ (wrapper?)

Random number and letters keep appearing on my tracks
These letters and numbers keep randomly appearing on my tracks (04 MO 127). They don’t have any effect on the track but it’s getting annoying and I would like to fix it.
I just got a Renoise license the other day but the same thing kept happening on the demo version.
