Group track meter should have a separate VU Meter Color & Issue with color of tracks with send devices
Hello in Version 3.3.2 a new behaviour was introduced that groupchannels has no groupspecific colored VU-meter in mainmixer. I can go with that there is the wish for generalization in softwaredevelopment. (I am developer too) But i’m screendesigner/softwareergonic too. And from this position i must say that this decision reduce the viewergonomics in bad direction. The awareness of groupchannel status is much more quickly and easier about the VU- meter color, as over the “#S>S01” headerstring only. There are potenzial problems with changed/customfonts in rendering and/or missing Charsign’s in Font. Thats why i make a call to the developer bring back the old Renoise 3.3.1 state, or at least, when you stuck on that decision, even it in all meters, not only in mainmixer VU Meters. Here are some marked screenshots…

Any tips on making these bass glides?
Hey all,
I’m interested to know how one could achieve bass glides like in this track: Stream HOW TO MAKE 909'S (these is 10010s tho) by Ghosty | Listen online for free on SoundCloud
I know of the producer, and know he uses fruity loops and their glide feature. Can this be done in Renoise? Afaik the entire bass melody is one 909/808 sample, and it’s the glides that gives it that feel when it’s bouncing all over the place.
I’ve tried to play with glides, and they’re confusing me. If I want to glide from C3 to C5 within say 2 beats how can I do that? I think once I know how to do that I can get close.
Advice please.

MIDI Clock to Multiple Devices
I’m using two sequencers at once with Renoise, it would be great to have the ability to send the midi clock to both of them at once instead of having to pick one or the other.

Some of the last fx digit isn't shown when scrolling through tracks
A tiny, tiny thing. Some of the last fx digit sometimes disappear. See video. It looks more like a C than a 0.
Resolution: 3840 x 2160. Windows 10.

Curve points disappear when zooming in
When I zoom in (using mouse wheel), the curve point will disappear. You can move it around. But you can not see it.

Problem moving automation curve points
See video. When you try to move the curve point, the cursor immediately zaps to the automation point. So you end up moving the automation point instead of the curve point.
It seems you have to click the utmost left pixel of the curve point to grab it.
This problem is also present in the regular Automation Editor. When you hover over a curve point, the cursor icon will transform into the double up-and-down-arrow which indicates that you will grab the curve point. But often, you will move a nearby automation point instead.
Makes sense?

OSX: Using a bluetooth out can lead into unsupported audio rate
If I select my Earfun bluetooth as audio out in Renoise, it will always use the samplerate of the prior selected settings, and not always 44100Hz, which is the supported rate. So if I had noraml audio out at 48kHz before, and then switched to bluetooth, Renoise now tries to wrongly resample to 48kHz.

Is there a way to slice a sample in stereo intervals?
Is there a way to apply the same slice marker at different points on the timeline for L and R channels?
I’m trying to cut up some drums which have about a 150th of a second delay in the right channel that I want to preserve. Is it possible to place slice marker 2 at say 00.00.290 for the right channel and at 00.00.315 for the left?
If this isnt possible, anyone have any advice as to how i could get this effect?
Thanks in advance !!

Renoise "Tape Lo-Fi" Doofer
Over the holidays, Arturia was giving away a the Tape Mello-Fi plugin. I really enjoy the tonality of the tape sound. Since we have a bevy of wonderful filters, I went ahead and made an approximate recreation of the tone, warble, and wobble portion of this effect. The other parts of the plugin - drive, noise, wear, and mechanics - y’all can make those on your own.
This Doofer will provide an approximation of the “Boards of Canada” type sound. Included modulations are:
- Wobble Depth - minor timbral modulation amount
- Wobble Speed - the rate of the timbral modulation
- Warble Amount - the amount of pitch rise/fall (utilizing a random LFO)
- Warble Speed - the rate of the pitch rise/fall
- Tone - a modified tone knob, providing a muted or sharper timbral sound
- Boost - go from no boost to a distorted tape saturation

Edit column values by using scrollwheel + modifier (alt)
Hi, i just came across a thought - it would be awesome if one could select/hover over delay column and use scroll wheel + modifier (alt for example) and just scroll delay values…
same would apply for other columns (vol, pan, fx perhaps)
I consider scroll-wheel to be very fast and precise when it comes down to workflow, as using keyboard for cycling values should not be optimal (because one keystroke would represent one increment of values: +1, another keystroke for +20 or -20… etc…)
What are your thoughts on this?

Renoise blocks all other apps from using sound while open (Ubuntu Studio 21.10)
Apologies if this has been asked before, or if the title kinda sucks.
I’m using Renoise 3.3.2 on Ubuntu Studio 21.10. Whenever Renoise is open no other app seems to be allowed to use sound. I’ve tested this with a few programs; Audacity and YouTube won’t even play their media, and Discord voice chat goes silent. They start working once Renoise is closed.
I’m not sure what type of problem this is. I’d appreciate help if this is fixable.

How to attain soundscape like this (RE2)?
Does anyone know which vst synth could be capable for creating sounds like this? Preferably free and cpu-friendly. And for macOS! I know Omnisphere would definitely do it but it’s out of the question for me cus of the reasons mentioned above…

Is there any way to get the Hex Visual Keyboard in Renoise?
I really like the hex keyboard from Redux when I’m using my laptop. I usually use a controller when composing but, I have been working out of town more lately. I recently started playing with redux just to check it out. (Purchased at launch to support the Devs but, I don’t use it as Renoise is my daily driver.) I would love to have the visual keyboard in Renoise as a reference since I usually don’t use the keyboard. Anyone know a way to add this to Renoise so it will show up in the main editor?
Thanks,

Beginnner/Intermediate with a few questions
I’ve got a few questions that have been nagging me for a while now so hoping someone can help me out.
- Sampler vs Synthesizer
So far I have been doing all of my sound design inside of the sampler using the stock waveforms. The other day I installed Vital synth and I couldn’t help but notice the difference in sound quality compared to synthesis in the sampler. In Vital everything sounded huge and rich whereas in the sampler, synths sound kind of thin and ‘wispy’.
Is this to be expected, and a limitation of using samplers for synthesis, or am I just not using the sampler to its full potential? Can anyone explain what is going on below the surface and the difference between the two.
It’s hard to put this question into words as I don’t know too much about synthesis but the way I see it is something like analog vs digital, with hardware synths supposedly sounding better than software synths, having a distinct ‘analog sound’, ‘sounding warm’ etc.
Is this the same when it comes to using the sampler compared to a vst for synthesis?
- Master track and Volume
What effects do you put on your master? and do you use those same effects for every track you make?
How about the gainer and maximizer, in what circumstance would you use these effects? Also there seems like a lot of ways to change the volume of instruments, tracks etc. I’m just wondering how you manage your volume and whether there is any benefit to the way you do it?
- Tuner
Can anyone recommend a good Tuner that is compatible with Linux?
- Different approaches to sound design in general
Finally I just wanted to know how you guys approach sound design. Whether you use Hardware, the sampler or vst’s?
There is a video on the Renoise YT page called ‘Using Plugins - Render To Samples’. This feature looks amazing and I might go down this route for sound design so I can use soft synths and use little CPU. Does anyone here do this?
Tried to keep this post as short as possible. I know there is a lot of questions so please just answer whatever you can. Thanks!

Expanded automatable per track groove controls
I’d love to see this added. Not just like the current Master Groove either, but per track Groove sliders with the ability to move the zero and one or the two and three individually before or after where they should land instead of moving 0/1 and 2/3 together for a generic “swing” groove. It’s been hell finding a replacement for what ACID Pro can do with their custom groove tool and how easy it is to create complex unique realistic sounding grooves with it.
Basically I’d like to see per track Groove controls like the current Master Groove but that let you move any line early or late and lets you affect every line based on the LPB or perhaps based on some determined length, like being able to select how many lines long the groove is and have it loop when you get past that number of lines.
Also be great if we could automate groove controls.

Renoise crashes when starting a new song, or loading an existing one
Hello there
So, the problem I’m having: Renoise halts when starting a new song or attempting to load an existing one. This started happening after I created a template for BBC Symphony Orchestra, which I did because it’s the instruments I use the most. However, now I’m unable to load any songs I’ve saved in the past, or create a new song, even with no template. It just hangs at “Creating new song” until Windows throws up an error saying that it’s not responding.
Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks!

Load xrni into instrument slot
Hello, does anyone know of a function that takes a filepath to a .xrni and loads it into the nth instrument slot? Or have an idea as to how to approximate this? I have a ton of instruments in xrni form and would like to load them programmatically.
Thanks,
Halley

About audio of Renoise preference
16 bit signed, 16 bit unsigned here
32 bit signed int, 32 bit unsigned int
What’s the difference?
Also does it have a change in sound?
