ReNoise can't "find" VST3
Hi all,
I am trying to load a VST3 into ReNoise from the standard VST3 file pathway but Renoise can not find it. I think this is probably a problem on ReNoise’s end because Ableton is able to “find” the VST. I have done a rescan, reinstall, and restart. Any further things I should try?
I am using Windows 10.
Thanks!

Renoise graphical interface + Shading
top: without shading
bottom: with shading
@taktik do you think it is possible to add (graphical) shading into the Renoise interface? it will create a little more calculating for the CPU, so it should be enabled/disabled - able.

Playing old tunes with Renoise
Dear developers,
I had a go with Renoise the demo version a couple of times, I must say it is very good and well designed player, a true homage to the trackers from the Amiga and the PC demoscene era from the good old days So I must say it is almost an instant buy for me, but what holds me back currently is that the tunes from these good times, don’t play exactly the same as with FastTracker or any old trackers. I probably would reckon there are other bugs or features that you probably would look into first rather in fixing this, but my question is; is this something that is done on purpose or will this be patched out eventually?
Best regards!

Chorus/flanger filter cutoff frequency not displaying the correct frequency value
Hello all,
The chorus/flanger filter cutoff frequency value is not being displayed correctly in 3.4.1. The slider seems to be working as it’s supposed to affecting the correct frequency and not the one shown above it. So this is just a value display issue I think.

Application: Caught an unhandled fatal exception (Thread: AUDIO SLAVES)!
This happens if I use Directsound and a USB DAC, and also if I use ASIO and my RME Fireface UCX.
Essentially, I’ve had this happen a few times now- it’s as if after a certain point in the song, it’s corrupt, and any attempt to play beyond there causes a crash. If I carefully recover/load without playing, and delete those patterns in the song editor panel on the left, all is well. Then later on, I’ll get to a point that corrupts again, and will have to rinse and repeat. The only difference is that if I am using plugins, GUI seems to throw an exception before audio slaves.
I did once see something go visually askew- the automation lines (for the cutoff of renoise’s own filter effect) jumped apparently out of bounds, giving a solid-looking editing region. No chance of a screenshot, as it bombed out quickly and I can’t repro on demand. However, it looks like something is broken in the automation editing, if I had to guess, and it makes other parts of renoise break due to corrupt values? This is could be very wide of the mark, of course- but it’s annoyingly intermittent, so hard to be more specific.
If I find any repro or other faintly useful details, I will try try to update this. It’s irritatingly vague

Downtempo instrumental song
Here’s a new one that I just recently finished. All of the production and most of the music was composed with my MPC One… two of the synths I did using Renoise, then rendering each to its own wav to import into the MPC for mixing into the production.

Are there some EDM Templates out there?
Hello,
I found tons of templates for many DAWs in the net, e.g. Ableton, FL Studio etc…
But I did not found some templates for Renoise…
Are the so rare?
Kind regards

Trouble getting Ableton Link and Renoise to cooperate
Hi all,
I bought Renoise after trying the demo. I liked it for drum programming and found it more intuitive than anything I have touched for that purpose. However, I prefer the instruments in Ableton for creating bass lines, synths, pads, etc. I saw it offered Ableton Link support and instantly bought it.
I can not get Ableton Link to work with Renoise. Tutorials for Ableton Link are vague and simply state that it should show up after selecting “show link toggle” in preferences. I have not been able to find tutorials for Renoise in the other direction that don’t require ReWire (RIP). Even the manual still says to use ReWire. For me, Ableton does not recognize that ReNoise exists or is running.
My goal is to use ReNoise kinda like a drum machine/vst/whatever in Ableton or vis versa. However, I understand this might now be completely possible.
What are the steps to use Ableton Link with ReNoise? Is there another method I should try?
I use windows.
Thanks!

Simple Tool (3.4.0) Midi Mapping Request
Midi Mapping Request
MidiMapRQ.xrnx (1.0 KB)
version 1.2
MidiMapRQ.xrnx (971 Bytes)
version 1.1
contents:
v1.1:
a Load button
a Save button
v1.2:
Menu entry under Song:
- Load Default MIDI Maps
- Save Default MIDI Maps
This tool saves and loads the MIDI mapping as
MIDIMAPRQ.XRNM
next to the (once installed) tool location.
@Circe whatsup, are you really paying me something? You offered to hire me…
This tool got tested with Renoise 3.4.0 - It may work with Renoise 3.1 or newer.
There was a request for adding a tool with 1 button that would (only) map the LPB to a controller knob. This tool advanced to saving the whole current MIDI mapping (all knobs) to a default filename of MIDIMAPRQ.XRNM completely compatible with Renoise’s mapping file format.

Load SFZ into renoise
I don’t know if anybody already knew that it’s possible to load sfz as multisamples. I don’t exactly know since when this feature exists but I just tried to load a Piano sfz and the samples/keymap was imported flawlessly.
Just a hint.

Renoise & CPU load (an imperial art of benchmarking)
Let us gather some essential information. Since now all essential driver systems are supported for the most common operation systems on a PC, we shall collect the amount of CPU usage.
On a Windows 10 PC with 48 Mo on an I7 3,6 gHz and a 10 track mod (1 is a send) at 48 kHz you got:
An average CPU load about 34 % using ASIO on an external device (native).
An average CPU load about 26 % using WASAPI on an external device.
An average CPU load about 24 % using direct sound on an external device.
An average CPU load about 31 % using ASIO on an internal device (realtek & ASIO4all).
An average CPU load about 26 % using WASAPI on an internal device.
An average CPU load about 25 % using direct sound on an internal device.
I could imagine, I created 36 tracks with an amount of 25 % at 44.1 kHz using AFA and a crappy Lenovo Ideapad (Realtek) 12 years ago.
I couldn`t test it using port audio.

A rack in a rack (VCV Rack & Reaktor)
OSX Big Sur: crash opening old song
Renoise 3.4.0 is crashing when trying to open an xrns file originally created in 2009. I had the file successfully running with Renoise 3.3.2 as recently as 03/15/2022 when i created a new version and replaced a vst synth I no longer have with Zebra2. Renoise 3.4.0 crashes if the file is opened from finder or internally using Renoise’s own browser.
I had a very similar problem a couple of years ago that was solved in this topic

MacOS (mpb - 10.14): Sluggish UI responsiveness in 3.4
Long time renoise customer / supporter. It’s been ages since i’ve installed a new version of renoise. After installing 3.4 on a new user profile on my mid2015 mbp (10.14.6) fresh it seems i get incredibly slugish responsiveness from any interaction with the renoise interface. UI resize, browse folder tree, transport controls, all pretty unusable out of the gate.
Am i missing something? checkbox for intel CPU or something?
Looking forward to catching up with an old friend (renoise) but for now, back to FT clone, an even OLDER friend! (which by the way runs like a well oiled tracker on any modern computer/os!! amazing imo)

Psyscope pro vst3: Can't resize window in Renoise
I’ve seen this question a couple of times from different people and in different OSes, but I don’t get if it’s the plugins responsibility or the DAW or if the workaraound (at the bottom) is the easies solution.
Example, I’m testning psyscope pro (demoversion), I know this can be resized. I do find the resize corner just above the random button, and i can drag it. This is what happens…
-
Original look (no resize, but marked out the drag-corner):
-
Dragging the resize point into the window (to make it smaller). result after releasing button:
(ignore the actual text… demo time expired) -
Dragging the resize point out of the window borders to make it bigger, result:
The window by itself is not resizable, it’s fixed.
BUT!!! If you resize the inner content, close the window, then press “ext.editor”-button again, it has taken the necessary size to house the content. (when in the mixer tab that is, havent tested vstis.)
Is this the solution?

Add fill features similar to polyend
Hello,
One of the most powerful features in the polyend tracker is the fill feature. It offers a quick yet powerful tool for populating pattern information in useful or surprising ways. I find myself really missing it when using renoise.

Add full bar divisions to slicer "snap to"
Hello,
A simple fix for a major source of annoyance of mine would be to add bar, 2 bar, 4 bar, etc divisions to the slicer “snap to”.
Or even better, offer the ability to generate slices based on the grid. I’m currently trying to slice up entire tracks with known bpms and the current way involves way too much clicking for my poor carpal tunnel.
