Trouble following Bizzy B's tutorial
@lunchwithghosts wrote:
Hi all -
Total Renoise (and tracker) newb here. I’m following along with Bizzy B’s tutorial on how to chop breaks (https://youtu.be/wUQR798BXe8) and I’ve found that the default settings on my new install don’t match all of his. One big example was in the Keyzones section, under Drum Kit settings, he must have “Use first octave for transposing” based on how his keyzones look. It’s been about an hour and a half of trial and error trying to get my setup to match his, but I’m stuck on one part.
When he starts his session he has a BPM of 80 set (I understand this is randomized). I set mine to 80. He loads a sample, slices it, and renders the slices to a phrase. When he hits enter to play the phrase, it plays very slowly. He then ups the tempo to 170 and the sample plays at it’s original speed.
When I’m trying this, when I hit enter with the BPM set to 80 it plays at regular speed. When I then go to up the tempo to 170 it is playing way too fast.
I must be missing something stupid. I tried searching the PDF manual but couldn’t find anything that helped. Does anyone know what option I am looking for here?
Thanks so much!

Using Redux Phrases in Reaper
@Wes wrote:
Hey guys,
I’m completely new to using DAWs and plug-ins. I’m currently toying around with Redux in Reaper, and I’m creating some pretty cool beats.
However, I have no idea how to actually use my phrases in Reaper. When I save in Redux, the file saves as a .xrni file, which I cannot open. Is there anyway to save my phrases as WAV files, so I can put them into my songs in Reaper?
Thanks in advance!

Automation - things to improve
@lilith wrote:
With the latest update the automation improved a lot, but still I’m not 100% satisfied with it and I wonder what your impression is. Some points that could be improved imo. Or maybe I’m just to stupid to use it correctly
- The line tool and the pencil tool are not consistent: In the pencil tool you delete points by double clicking on them, which is not possible in the line tool mode. It’s even not possible to delete points in the line tool mode, is it?
Would it be possible to delete points by selecting one or more points with a box by the right mouse key + e.g. Ctrl and hitting Del afterwards? This is for instance the method REAPER is using.
In the line mode I can move points vertically and horizontally with holding the left mouse key. In the pencil mode it’s drawing new points instead.
-
Sometimes it’s very hard to hit the points I want to delete and most of the time I have to zoom in first, because no point at all is deleted. Maybe some kind of snapping could help here?
-
Make simple Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V possible in the automation view to copy / paste automation patterns.
Ok, it’s possbile when marking a region with Ctrl+left mouse key. -
The red points to adjust curves can be moved vertically but not horizontally. I also like to have the possibility to adjust the sensitivity here. Or maybe implement some kind of acceleration?
-
In line mode there’s a info text: Hold down shift key to erase other points … double click to remove
Double click and shift key is not working for me? Am I’m doing something wrong? -
When being in line mode I often overwrite the automation when switching to another pattern. It only works when exactly hitting an other point in the other pattern
-
Is it possible to make cross pattern editing in the drawing mode possible? This discussion came up some months ago.
These are the major points, I guess there are still some minor things that could be improved.
What do you think?

High cpu usage during pitch shifting one sample
@toimp wrote:
I’m not sure, if this is a bug or just the current way how pitch shifting / time stretching is working inside Renoise. I’ve attached a demo song with one pad sample and a cheesy little melody and it takes up 70% cpu usage on my i7 3770k. Maybe it’s possible to optimize it more
Dropbox high_cpu_usage.xrnsShared with Dropbox
Edit: Ok, it seems lowering the beat sync pattern lines amount also reduce the cpu usage dramatically. So its currently not a good idea to stretch long samples to short ones.

Mapping phrases to keys
@Terumi wrote:
Hello people, I was wondering if there is an easy way to map an instrument phrases to the keyboard notes automatically, without having to drag and drop and resize the region for each one.
Thank you

Muting only a Specific Section of a track?
@longhorn wrote:
Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to just mute a specific block of lines like in the image, I dont wan’t to cut it cos I might want to use that part at a later time.
PS: I have another question if anyone happens to know: In Sampler>Waveform>Interpolate option, Interpolate is turned off by default. What is the difference between this and enabling it but selecting ‘None’
Thanks!

Renoise Debug Log File
@Sparky wrote:
Hi. I’m writing some code to convert my module format into XRNS. Does Renoise have a debug log that can be enabled at all?
Renoise is crashing when trying to load my XRNS file. It works fine when I produce a dummy/new tune XRNS. I’ve been doing a number of comparisons trying to make my file identical to what Renoise would (my file has different patterns and notes at the moment).
Just wondering if there’s anything I can look at or enable to help me work out what the offending XML element is?
Here’s a example of XRNS file I’m trying to load.

"Flip button” in automation editor does not adjust custom curves
@taktik wrote:
⮚ Renoise 3.2.1 & Redux 1.1.1 betas releasedAnother little bug (R3.2.1 b1, W10):
Remember also that there is a small bug in the operation of the “Flip button” in the Automation Editor. In case you want to solve it for this new version:
The problem: when flip (horizontal), it should also appear curved. The point that defines the curve is lost.
Splitting this out of ⮚ Renoise 3.2.1 & Redux 1.1.1 betas released so it doesn’t get lost…

Is there an "idle" function in Renoise's API?
@Jengamon wrote:
I need a way to allow Renoise to continue with its life while I do a bit of calculations. Is it possible to do this? Another alternative is a blocking dialog, where I can do calculations on another thread while the main application does the GUI-fu.
Really, I want to run anything registered to “renoise.tool().app_idle_observable”, so is there a way to say that even though I’m in a while loop waiting, the app should be idle?

Bug: Recently Saved Song list not always updated with 2 Renoise windows open
@EatMe wrote:
Hi… I don’t know exactly how to reproduce this bug but this is what happened:
the Menu File… Open recently saved… is not updated.
Open Renoise (1)
Open Renoise (2)
Save Song in Renoise (1)
Close Renoise (1)
Close Renoise (2)
new day: Open Renoise ( y )
The recently saved files list is not updated, maybe because Renoise 2 is not aware of Renoise 1? I have a song version 3 that is (obviously) saved, but not appearant in the Renoise saved list.

Keymap preferences not saved on each run
@YuugenP wrote:
Hello. I have been using Renoise for quite some time, and I have noticed that there is something unusual about my version of the program. Every time I close Renoise (or it crashes) and opens it again, my key assignments were all reset.
Any ideas on how this can be fixed are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Steps to reproduce:
- Open Renoise (Currently using the 3.2.0 release)
- The preferences are reset.
- Now change any of the keymaps (e.g. “Note Off” to “A”). Close the prefs tab.
- Close Renoise and run the program again
Expected result:
- The key bindings stay the same as it is before the program was closed.
Actual results:
- The binding got reset.

VSTI Scaling Bug
@brainslayer wrote:
VSTI’s like recent Arturia Plugins do have a own gui resize feature. with the latest 3.2.0 (and 3.2.1 beta) this doesnt work anymore, but was working with 3.1.0 the mouse events are captured at correct scaled destination but the gui of the plugin itself is 4 times smaller. this might be related to the windows own gui scaling feature since this screenshit was made on a 4K screen. the only way to work around this issue is using compatibility setting and changing high dpi settings to “system extended”

MIDI record doesn't do multiple values in the pattern editor
@thebinarycollective wrote:
So, I have been messing a bit with NRPN which gives you 14 bit depth automation capability using two MIDI CCs.
So I have CC 6 and CC 38 (which corresponds to NRPN 1) to get my 14 bits, ie 0x3FFF is the max possible or 16383.
BUT when I record this into the pattern editor both values don’t get recorded. Only the one. So even then if I’m using two knobs or sliders with a controller it doesn’t record into poly fx columns. It will do so within the automation editor, but the arrays governing automation should be the same design as the regular old hex columns.
So neither a feature request or a bug really, more like boneheaded design that drifts more along the “bug” side as that kind of thing should be standard specification.
Why is this important (and why Renoise should simply have 16 bit depth within the fx column anyway) is that you can do near audio rate level control data and you don’t have to make use of trying to slew/interpolate from 8 bit to the 32 bit mixing/plugin/OSC/whatever that is more modern. Even this crappy 10 year old BCR2000 will do 14 bit absolute value. (and that’s what I’m using)
To illustrate:
