Halo World ,
I have a situtation. I’ve been using Renoise since 2010 but got really into producing in 2015.
I love it because sequencing vertically is what seems to make sense for me.
Anyway, I got my Audient sound card… I created a template sO I can make tunes quick.
Problem, My Roland MX1, I’m clocking it with RENOISE . Why is it that sometimes, it doesn’t play nor scroll. Sometimes, it will scroll… I spent so much time figuring this out… I also have the VIrus MIDI(only or 3 tracks) but I don’t use TI software… WHy is it not scrolling? or playing?
Sometimes it does work but I can’t figure it out. Is it the Audient soundcard? should I take out the midi VIRUS ? But I never had this problem before… The MX1 is important because RENOISe will clock it so my Elektron a4, TR8 and in sync…
Maybe I’ll start with a black page and see if I press play it will scroll… It’s annoying.

Unable to assign one MIDI channel only to one instrument only
@marcodsad wrote:
Hi there,
I’ve been using Renoise for many years (and love it!), but I generally don’t work with MIDI. Hence my questions here.
I’m on Linux Mint 19 with Renoise 3.1.
I’m using PureData to generate MIDI notes on two MIDI Channels (Ch1 and Ch2).
I want to assign each MIDI Input Channel to one instrument, so I use the Input Device tab in the MIDI section to do so.
Instrument 1 = MIDI Input Ch. 1
Instrument 2 = MIDI Input Ch. 2
AFAIK, this should result in MIDI notes on Channel 1 to activate Instrument 1 only, and notes on Channel 2 to activate Instrument 2 only. However, that’s not the case and I can’t understand why.
What actually happens is that any note on any channel activate whatever instrument is selected in the Instrument Tab. This also means that if I select another Instrument as the notes are coming in, the newly selected instrument will start playing and the old one will stop.
I doubled checked that the routing is correct using both “Show Routing Overview” and the plugin “MIDI Management Console”.
In the screenshot attached, as a test, I’m generating notes on MIDI Channel 4 to see if Instrument 1 gets activated. And indeed that’s what happens. Despite Instrument 1 being assigned to MIDI Input Channel 1, it still gets activated by notes on Channel 4, as you can see from the scope at the top.
any hint?
many thanks in advance, and excuse if I’m missing something obvious.
I’ve researched online and in the forum to no avail.
cheers,
M

Akai MPK mini - Linux - Device Name Issue
@lilith wrote:
As here are obviously many Akai MPK mini users with Linux, I ask this question also here as it might be partially related to Renoise.
I recently replaced an Akai LP 25 with an Akai MPK mini midi keyboard. While the LPK 25 was always listed as “Akai LPK 25” in Renoise, the MPK sometimes comes up as “MPK mini MK II Midi 1” and sometimes as “USB device 09e8:0026 midi”. When I unplug and plug it in again it comes up as “MPK mini MK II Midi 1”.
Does anyone know why this can change from time to time?

Suggestions from one who used trackers, since Master Soundtracker
@Kaao wrote:
I just concluded the loudness war argument on my channel, with 3-way -10dB RMS masters on my youtube channel, and is doing that at the moment.
And is concluding the interpolation debate aswell. Ever since trackers came on PC, the interpolation debate has been going. While the original Amiga had no interpolation, but rather variable rate DAC.
I came to think of this, and indeed it really is much better, since no interpolation = no interpolation error. However the “aliasing” should be filtered out.
Indeed one cannot guess the value, so why not just keep the value that is there, and lowpass it, for reconstruction of what more likely it was about.
The polyphase interpolator does much this. This is how the Amiga and trackerformat originally sounded, with modern conveniences such as aliasing filtering, and supersmooth 96K processing.
Furthermore, the whole VST debate has been a bit odd aswell, and one may consider if the compact tracker format, really was superior to begin with.
A horizontal trackerview option, would be more like a standard sequencer aswell, but keeping the tracker mindset.
One does not really need all the “moog surfaces” etc, type plugins, it all can be in an instrument- with-filter-env-fx oriented tracker, with some typical RMS mastering on the output. And who has the FX from when VST began. And one may consider if the return of such a compact format would be good.
Peace.
Early known for a #1 @ TG92light, and a #3 3 votes from #1, at TG93. And later trancemusic that was top locally on mp3.com. And now works with an intercultural musicproject, and a Fair Pay BSD based OS project.
And also check my retro xBit9X VJs 90s CBM-Scene EDM channel out.

FREE Tube Screamer Distortion & Tomato Tube Preamp AU/VST
@trueschool wrote:
Hi All,
I just discovered this excellent free emulation of the legendary Ibanez Tube Screamer, and from the same devs, the Tomato tube emulation preamp for acoustic instruments.
Both are great in different ways for adding subtle saturation, warmth, and fatness to all kinds of signals. There are several other interesting free emulators there that are geared towards metal guitarists, but they could be well used to add some nice edge to whatever you’re playing. Check it out…

Arturia Keylab MK2 49, Tool for "TRANSPORTS" buttons (MCU/HUI protocols)
@Raul wrote:
I have an Arturia Keylab MK2 49 MIDI controller keyboard in my possession. The keyboard is fine, but apparently, the Transports buttons only work with MCU / HUI protocols . That is, they can not be mapped like the other controls through the MIDI input. What a disappointment I have taken with this matter!!!
I have seen that some user has been able to operate these buttons for Duplex, or something similar.
My intention is to gather the necessary information to operate these buttons with a basic LUA tool, which only makes these transport buttons work. The transport buttons are:
From left to right:
- Previous Track.
- Next Track.
- Stop song.
- Play song (from the first line of the current pattern).
- Enable/disable Edit Mode for pattern editor.
- Enable/disable current pattern.
Maybe it is even possible to make a small window to assign each button to different configurations. For example,
- Previous Track or Previous Pattern Sequence.
- Next Track or Next Pattern Sequence.
…
If in the end I manage to create the tool, I will publish it here so that anyone can use it. The objective is to make it as simple as possible, without the need to use Duplex. Make it a simple tool made on purpose.
Does anyone have information on how the tool should be focused? As I understand it, with an LUA file and another additional XML could be built. But I still do not understand how MCU / HUI protocols works with Renoise.
Probably I just need the necessary instructions so that the tool understands that she is using this keyboard model and that she detects the pulsation of one of these Transport buttons.
Note 1: In DAW mode, there are two generic modes:
- DAW Mapping “Standard MCU”
- DAW Mapping “Standard HUI”
- and other DAW modes specific to the rest of DAWs: Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper (neither is it for FL Studio or Renoise)…
Note 2 The transport buttons always work with these MCU / HUI protocols, regardless of the mode used, for “ANALOG LAB”, “DAW” or “USER”.
Note 3: it is exactly the same case as for the Arturia Keylab MK2 61 keyboard.
Can anyone help here?

New Tool (3.1.1): AKAI Fire Integration
@arigy wrote:
AKAI Fire Integration for Renoise 3.1This tool allows to use AKAI Fire FL Studio controller with Renoise tracker. It packs quite a lot of no-nonsense Renoise features to be available at your fingertips. Note: I made it for myself, so it may or may not suit your tracking style
Limitations-
Navigation in multiples of 16 steps
-
No support for OLED display
-
No support for multiple AKAI Fire controllers
-
Something else I forgot
-
Mode LEDs show beat position in binary format: CHANNEL toggles every beat, MIXER toggles every two beats, USER 1 - every 8 beats and USER 2 - every 16 beats.
-
Pad color in Note mode (or in Drum mode with STEP held) represents note (12 semitones of octave mapped to a hue); active notes (not stopped by note-offs) are showed in a dim color
-
Pad color in Drum mode represents track color
-
Pad color in Performance mode represents track/slot color; muted slots are showed in a dim color
-
Tapping pad in Drum mode captures the nearest note/instrument before of after tapped position
-
Both live loop recording and stepped recording are supported (set step size with STEP+⟲/⟳ SELECT and use STEP/SHIFT+STEP to skip steps)

As ever this was completely compiled using Renoise, with a mix of VST’s and samples.
