Send device questions

September 6, 2019 - 19:26

@cantti wrote:

Hello!

I have been working in the Renoise for quite some time, but I have two questions:

  1. is it possible to change default send device settings to keep source? So that it works like send knobs in other daws or mixer?
  2. Why when I turn off the group, I don’t hear the sources, but I hear them in the send channels? Can this be changed so that when you turn off the group, the send to the channels stops?

Thanks

Transform Multiply feature from EMU-X3. How to do something like that in Renoise?

September 6, 2019 - 09:42

@dspasic wrote:

Anyone familiar with EMU x3 feature transform multiply?
i don’t even know how that resembles to the sample.
I know that if i copy to clipboard some part of sample, i can “do it” on the other sample, or whole that sample, and it does do something with freqs, but i don’t know what exactly

Is this possible maybe in renoise? or anyone could elaborate? thanks

XRNS file size limit / bottleneck question

September 6, 2019 - 09:33

@Denim wrote:

Hi, I use more and more hardware synths, drum machines and mic recordings etc in my projects these days, and my XRNSes often land on typically 300-400 mb. And I’m just curious - exactly what determines how large an xrns can be? Is it basically just my own system (ram, cpu, drive space) or does Renoise have its own bottleneck in this scenario? Using Win7 64-bits (NTFS), maybe even Windows has its limitations?

Would be interesting to know, especially before I start planning any really huge projects (like a live performance or a 80 min epic ambient journey or something )

Recording vst output

September 6, 2019 - 01:46

@tw1psy wrote:

Hi, Is there way a straight way to record vst output as audio in renoise? I know that I can open the vst in another daw in rewire mode and record it as audio there but i wonder if there’s a cpu friendlier way to do it in renoise.

p.s; I’m doing this cause I find the 255 steps for note delay insufficient for registering the timings correctly and I don’t wanna make make lpb high as it would make the pattern roll too fast and I don’t like it.

Soundemote Prettyscope in Renoise

September 6, 2019 - 00:12

@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:

I don’t promote too much in the way of VST/AU plugins around here, as I’m pretty much a Renoise ONLY within Renoise kinda guy. BUT!

Soundemote Prettyscope

It’s an audio visualizer that does a Lissajous-styled audio visualization. Plug it in, press play. It’ll pump to your music right away. It’s more than that, though. It can be automated via envelope. So, you can rotate your visual patterns (gotta edit the XML file - go talk to them about it), or have the lines and dots expand and contract. I use the LFOs as S&H style randomizers. So, it’s picking up and pumping with the transients, while giving you a generative visualization that’s really pretty to look at and can be as colorful or minimalist as you design it to be. Love it!

I used the song I posted here the other day, “Wavy” and updated the visuals to work with it via Prettyscope. Much better visuals.

I get a crash here and there, but it might be because I’m modulating the living hell out of it with LFOs. I’m able to save whatever I’ve done. You’ll have to edit the XML file a bit to automate some parameters via LFO, and you’re gonna have to read the manual a bit and watch the video on the webpage. Join the Discord server if you need more info.

Ho do I undo in the sample editor

September 5, 2019 - 23:31

@sleepingtiger wrote:

I’ve been using Renoise rewired into Pro Tools and I’m finding the routing cumbersome so I’m checking out Redux with Plogue Bidule to streamline things. Great so far except for a huge showstopper. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to undo in the sample editor. The Undo box is ticked but control Z does nothing and I can’t find anything on the interface of another command in the prefs. I feel so dumb! Can someone help? Thanks!

A little warning guys! Reaktors Photone as AU will

September 5, 2019 - 22:55

@KnownUn wrote:

Hi! Fatal error many many times, almost lost a beat. Reason was Reaktors Au version of Photone. I’m on the latest Renoise and the latest Reaktor. Got my first fatal error ever and I’ve been on Renoise for YEARs.

Is that an AU thing?

On a side note, and some positivity, if you love Absynth 5 you will love Photone in Reaktor.

Generative music in Renoise 3.2

September 5, 2019 - 16:21

@derfundig wrote:

Been having fun in renoise land again, much thanks to 3.2. Also finally sat down to play with phrases and probabilities (yXX).

Its just a few simple phrases that contains patterns with probabilities, and then a layer of probabilities on the main pattern to create “infinite” variations.

Here`s the file in case anyone is interested.

Native Instruments is restructured and will focus on software maintenance

September 5, 2019 - 12:19

@Raul wrote:

Who does not know NI? Well, September seems like a very important month for this great company.

As I read in a recent article, NI is going to lay off 100 workers, most of whom form the hardware development block and are going to focus on unifying their products and especially on software maintenance in order to “listen to their users” . It seems that they were launching products but then their control software was a bit “abandoned”, ignoring the problems or requests reported by users…

This is somewhat curious and shocking news at the same time. Nobody wants companies that are dedicated to the development of musical products to have serious problems, either because sales do not work as they should, or because the decisions that come from above are not, at times, right.

They seem to want to centralize all their software to be interconnected with the Internet. Maybe so they can have better control over their users and their opinions, suggestions, reports, and probably control piracy more.

Well, you know how these things work. Official statements can make up what really happened. Because the dismissal of a large part of the workforce is something serious. It is not a decision that is taken lightly. It is usually forced for some important reason.

Do you know anything about this subject? Here is a link from a website where real workers of the company give their opinion. Comments are not wasted:

https://www.glassdoor.co.uk/Reviews/Native-Instruments-Reviews-E33496.htm

It really seems that the problem has not been economic, but rather a thoughtful decision of restructuring, to unify all its products more. Other companies are already on the hunt for some engineers who are going to be free now.

I don’t know if all this is 100% true. So take this thread delicately. I use NI software. I hope the company is doing well.

Curve of decay affects attack amount

September 5, 2019 - 00:48

@gentleclockdivider wrote:

Explained into detail into this thread , it 's sad to see the problem is still present
The envelope and it's quirks Help, Support & Bugs I spend ages recreating a sound in the insstrument editor and I just wasn’t able to do it . The sound was fairly simple ,a fast filter attack of about 7ms from minimum to max and a fast decay from max to almost zero …about 10 ms . The filter attack/decay of the original sound defined the overall character , aware of the fact that every filter has a different scaling / character , I did’t expect renoise filters to sound the same , but I assumed that the envelope would at least be able to achiev…
In the provided example there are two identical instruments , the only difference is that instrument nr .2 has a slope in the decay , this slope prevents the attack stage from going to full range ( controlling filter freq) .
The visual envelope shows the attack peak being lowered when adjusting the decay slope , and that is exactly what happens .

Taktik could you please do something about this , or at least explain why this occurs
I know this can be remedied with adding an operator afterwards but this is just too cumbersome

Neuro... No Neuro - Wavy

September 4, 2019 - 17:44

@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:

As always, all sounds, effects, and mixing are done within the native Renoise environment. I even figured out how to make a near-perfect Max/MSP style audio glitcher for non-rhythmic clicks, pops, buzzes, etc., all wrapped up in a doofer. Renoise allows for a great combination of sequenced music and generative effects.

How to add a background to renoise?

September 4, 2019 - 10:24

@Minty wrote:

I am wondering if there is a way to add a background picture to the Renoise daw as seen in this video:

It is not exactly necessary, but I think it would improve my workflow a bit and get me more excited to make things. Is there a way to add animations to it as well such as gifs? I’ve been searching for the past hour and I havent seen anyone else do this besides in this video.

I really want a cool skin for this daw but changing the colors is just too boring for me. I want an image ahah. Please help if you can thank you!

  • The ability to move the sample start and finish times within slices
    without have to destructively render them 1st.

Make instrument randomize sample choice?

September 3, 2019 - 21:24

@joule wrote:

I haven’t dealt much with keyzones, so I better ask here before I spend too much time trying to do things the wrong way.

In Milkytracker, I used to do something silly with the instruments in chiptunes. You could create several chip waveforms in an instrument, and then ‘randomize’ them over the keyboard with just the crude act of quickly drawing the various sample numbers over the keyboard legend. The UI wouldn’t catch the mouse movement properly, effectively making the samples ‘kind of’ randomized when you played the instrument.

So, now I want to achieve something similar in Renoise. Some options:

  • I noticed samples can only be distributed as coherent ‘blobs’ in the keyzone (?), so I guess that’s not the way to do it, unless I create a massive amount of samples. I only want 4-5 samples, but pretty randomized over the keyboard. Keyzones don’t seem to be the way?

  • I could route samples to individual fx lanes. Play all at the same time, but make sure that only one lane is unmuted. This seems possible but would require waaay too much setup imo. Maybe it’s ok, but I hope there is some other way.

  • Some simpler way, that I haven’t though of? Maybe some clever way, with maYbe in phrases, that requires a little less setup than individual fx lanes?

PS. It’s ok if the sample choice is randomized all the time. Not necessarily one particular sample per pitch, as it used to be in Milkytracker.

Hybrid 3 VST - External editor window black in 3.2

September 3, 2019 - 15:42

@ne0 wrote:

In Renoise 3.2 the external editor of Air Music Hybrid 3 is just black. The VST instances still work and I can change parameters using the Instr. Automation device.
All my other VSTs seem to work fine and if I open the exact same project file in Renoise 3.1 the plugin window is rendering correctly.

Since my other VSTs still work it has probably something to do with Hybrid. But then again it worked fine in 3.1 and other DAWs so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Any idea what could be the problem? Scaling is set to 100% in both Renoise and Windows.

Hi deer Renoisers,

I enrolled in a remix contest organized by Gleize Events here in France… The winner can get a nice prize (a contract with a label) … The principle is pretty simple, you just have to remix this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtP7iMiMbCk (named funkeys) and send your version to gleize.events@gmail.com.

More informations here: https://www.facebook.com/gleize.events/posts/893637167665574 (sorry, this page is in French, I can translate if needed !)

By the way, I already sent my version (I’m the only one who did for the moment so…): https://soundcloud.com/prosper-proper/funkeys-remix … There’s room for anyone who wants to participate !

Cheers

Christophe.
