I finished this song about the time I voluntarily admitted myself to a psychiatric ward - little did I know they’d section me and keep me there for a while a few days later

Anyways, this song uses instances of Cthulhu, Reaktor 6 (Steampipe 2), and Serum, as well as samples from Methlab’s ‘Creative Core’ selection. Vocals present. Mixed in Renoise with the help of FabFilter’s Pro plugins. Hope you enjoy

Here's a song that may be left unfinished for a while

August 31, 2019 - 13:24

@chemeleon wrote:

First off, congrats to Renoise team for releasing 3.2 looking forward to laterally applying all the nice new features

Second, I’ve been in an acute mental ward for a couple of weeks and put this together from bits of old song and me singing ‘clever man’ into my laptop mic. I’m just wondering what people think now, as it’s going to take a lot of work to finish (for soooo many reasons… vocals recorded with 3 different mics, really subtle variations in bass patch and kit and fx make a huge difference, difficult to find a cohesive balance, etc)… I’ve got a second part lined up but want to get the first part right first.

I’ve done a few iterations since this version, none of them sound as good, no idea why.

For now it’s called ‘Post Sleep Dreaming’
…but I might end up just calling it ‘Clever Man’.

If there’s enough interest I’ll post some private updated versions for people to listen to later on.

Can't control easing of automation lines in 3.2

August 30, 2019 - 14:47

@zezic wrote:

OS: Ubuntu 18.04, Renoise 64Bit - V3.2.0 (Built: Aug 26 2019)
System specs: 16GB RAM, AMD FX-8350, M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (using JACK)
Config.xml (53.7 KB) Log.txt (13.6 KB)

Description:

When trying to change the easing of a curve in automation editor by clicking red dot the new line is created instead.

Steps to reproduce look like this:

  1. Launch Renoise
  2. Open automation editor pane
  3. Make sure it’s in “Lines” mode
  4. Draw a line
  5. Hover mouse over the red dot (mouse cursor doesn’t change its form, still looks like a cross)
  6. Drag the red dot (a new line starts to appear instead of changing existing line easing)

Expected results:

Visual feedback (changing cursor form the cross to the up-down arrow icon) and controlling the easing of an existing line (its curvature).

Actual results:

A new line starts to appear at the point of click.

OSC Renoise to CV? ( Modular Eurorack )

OSC has a higher resolution as Midi, which makes it interesting for CCs
SDS Digital (Amazing open Mind Modules) create a WIFIMIDI Eurorack module that work with OSC

Does somebody have experience with OSC and Modular?

  • is that possibly an elegant alternative to DC-Coupled Audio Interfaces?
  • Renoise as (OSC) Master Clock or Slave without Jitter possible?
  • Record CC as the Way possible as with Midi to CV?

Add more breakpoints between lines in the automation view

August 29, 2019 - 18:23

@LegendaryTaunt wrote:

It’s awesome that between lines, there are points that you can drag up and down to create easing in the automation editor. But why just one?

What do you lot think of right clicking the area between points, and selecting an “add additional breakpoint” to add a second, third, etc… Then we can create complex automation curves without having to use a lot of lines in the project.

The breakpoint could be right clicked on and there could be an option to delete the breakpoint as well.

Visually, if you were to have three breakpoints it would look something like this

Thoughts?

Slow framerate with HiDPI on Mac Book Pro 2018

August 29, 2019 - 16:01

@lechbialek wrote:

I have an issue with Renoise 3.2 HiDPI/Retina mode on macOS 10.14.6 on my 2018 MBP 15" (base model):

  • When I use the HiDPI/Retina mode with 200% scaling, the UI scopes updates are slow as if the framerate is at 15fps

  • Alternatively, when I right click on the Renoise.app and check the “Open in low-resolution” checkbox the performance of the scopes is normal (but I can’t use the display scaling anymore)

I hope you can look into this, as I would like to use the display scaling. Let me know if you need additional information.

Limit size for tools: 2MB. Increase to double or more?

August 29, 2019 - 15:44

@Raul wrote:

With the new HiDPI compatibility of R3.2.0, it is easier to exceed the 2MB limit per XRNX tool. This is due to the need to duplicate the icons by increasing them 4 times in size. It all adds up.

Would it be possible to double this value? Would 4MB be too much? Even if it were possible to set the value much higher (10-15MB) it would be magnificent. Nor are there many people uploading tools every day.

Please, can you check it?

Thanks!

Presonus Faderport 16 support

August 29, 2019 - 15:32

@Bunker wrote:

Hi guys. I’m looking to upgrade my current setup and I’m liking the idea of bidirectional control using the faderport. I can see that there is a tool for using the single faderport but does anyone know if I could use the faderport 16? I’m
wanting to use it to control faders in the Renoise mixer window and transport controls. Sorry if it sounds simplistic (I am a simpleton) but could I Mirror the mixer faders and then save the mix so that when I re open the renoise song the faders in the fader port will jump to the previous settings? Basically recall of the fader settings? I hate using the mouse to mix and would love to be able to control the mixer levels my hand.

Cheers!

Sorry, I forgot to mention I’m willing to look at other alternatives to the faderport 16. Just in case any of you guys are working with a similar set up whereby you have recall over mixer levels/settings etc. From my (very) brief understanding its fairly easy to get a controller to control the mixer faders but the issue is getting renoise to tell the controller the position of the faders on opening a song, hence why I’m looking at motorised fader controllers. The other option would be to render individual tracks then load them up into another DAW which will work bidirectionally with the faderport but I’d rather stay with renoise as I know it and love it.
