If you had to do a 'mix and master' on earbuds only, which ones?
For those people who sometimes work on music software for portable devices and dont want to work with large monitor headphones, but also dont want to write sequences for export into renoise that are not bassy enough and need to be adjusted because they have been working on ‘bass boost’ earbuds…which earbuds are the best for reference/monitoring?
Just to make sure the sequences exported dont need too much EQing or work on other things such as filtering or volume levels once they reach the computer.
So far the only recommendation I have is:
Etymotic research ER4SR earphones.
https://www.etymotic.com/consumer/earphones/er4-micropro-earphones-373.html
Seems like they are saying they are flat response from 100Hz to 10000Hz.
I guess this means they are not accurate from 10000Hz upwards?
They are not cheap. Any other good ones out there that people know of, or should I just save my money and use normal earbuds 20Hz-20000Hz frequency response with annoying bass boost, which will lead to not enough bass in sequences and songs?
(maybe its just that no earbuds so far are really flat response or good for monitoring, too small to accurately monitor bass frequencies)

Solo causes note off in other muted track
Hi guys have been trying to get into using Renoise more recently as I like the magic that can be accomplished by using the effect commands, anyway … I have a new song with just 2 tracks so far and noticed that when I switch between soloing both of them, the audio is not continuous, but only retriggers with a note on. Maybe this is by design?

New Tool (3.2): Narration Song
Probably won’t be of much use to people, but I needed a tool to automate the building of an appropriate song for the narration I record and edit in Renoise. Normally, for each project, I would have to do this by hand before rendering (and then keep resizing patterns to match any edits made).
Usage: Select an instrument and this tool will do the following to it* and all consecutive instruments* below it in the Instrument Editor:
- Enable Autoseek
- Give the instrument its own pattern
- Set the length of the pattern to the number of lines necessary to accommodate the sample’s length
- Place a C-4 note in the first line of the first track
(* as long as the instrument has a sample)

[DnB]: Tropical Wave
Just As If I Remember
I want (for no other purpose than to make music and then Blatantly Self Promote this)
an effect (VST2, maybe internal Renoise)
that does the following
Modulate PHASE DIFFERENCE after FLANGE/CHORUS DIFFERENCE
Modulate FLANGE/CHORUS DIFFERENCE after PHASE DIFFERENCE
of the original signal, in one complete to make WET pass.
This would then go to a WET/DRY knob, to mix the original signal.
The GENERAL PARAMETERS for such an effect would be
- WET/DRY
- GAIN
- CIRCUIT FILTER STEPS (similar like the Phaser Steps) to pass WET signal into combination of filters (*1)
The PHASE DIFFERENCE would have interface options:
- Hz RANGE (min and max) - 2 knobs with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
- FREQUENCY (LFO RATE) - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
** (HOST TEMPO LEARN) - checkmarkbox = FREQUENCY knob off, TEMPO STEPS on
** (TEMPO STEPS) - options to choose (note divisions like 1/32, 1/1) - FEEDBACK - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
- STEREO WIDENESS - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
- PHASER FILTER STEPS - value selection, maybe per knob for easy access
The FLANGE/CHORUS would have interface options:
- DELAYRANGE - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting,
0.00000000000000000000000000000001 msec to 100 msec (or alike) - LFO RATE - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
** (HOST TEMPO LEARN) - checkmarkbox = LFO RATE knob off, TEMPO STEPS enabled
** ((LFO RATE, HOST) TEMPO STEPS) - options to choose (note divisions like 1/32, 1/1) - FEEDBACK - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
- DEPTH - 1 knob with value precision display and CTRL precise setting
This new effect would allow a combined, new form of effecting a sound.
I can now replicate the sound of such an effect, by creating a Send track.
I can, however, not mix this back further into a Group or other device chain.
Example:
(NOISE!) wet only, phase + chorus
(NOISE!) 50%wet/50%dry, phase + chorus
here you go

[bug] Renoise 3.2.2 - [strange behaviour] - [shift] selecting in pattern editor
Hello!
There still seems to be some strange behaviour with [shift] selecting in Renoise 3.2.2 with the rightmost column(s).
- When [shift] selecting (and right arrow)
-
more than 3 effect columns
-
creating (a few) new effect columns after selection
Less than in Renoise 3.2.1, still some unexpected selection behaviour is existant in Renoise 3.2.2 for now.
Thanq you tooktiktoqtaqtiq for all the continuous development. (Reminder: Renoise needs a future-usable version for when everything is dead, luckily Renoise is alive, I was able to register! I also still need to look into this myself, as I have to (keep-alive once half a year) all my project file downloads…)
Yours, sincerely,
I am a nearibility because infinity was made measurable by nearibility.
So is E (1, infinity) = meisurable * frequency to two fractions^2

Happy times with the 4x4 matrix
Yai, good times with Renoise, download this and have fun, it is good for you. Oh yeah, and it includes the first text file written to taktik himself
so i was playing around with this switch matrix idea I had from the modular world and stumbled across an unwanted noise when switching the receiver on a #send on a send track sending to another send track.
so I wrote taktik. he told me to get in here.
you can see in the file what I’m doing and I kind of made a track from the idea, (with compression and everything)
Maybe I little more explaining?
When sending a signal from a track ModMatrix4x4-0.3smoothGen.xrns (39.3 KB) with the #send is fine. You can automate the receiver as you will and no problem, no noise, pops n crackles. BUT when sending it again, from the send track a, to another send track, with the #send, and switching the receiver, then it gets unpleasant. No anything major, but enough for me to not want that, not in this particular project anyway.
So yeah, I did this instead, to get around it. You can see it on the master. It is essentially one hydra reseting four fully stopped LFO´s simultaneously while each of the four custom LFO´s are sending to four different send tracks gain. And then there are some other instruments that has nothing to do with the original idea but just thrown in there for fun.
So, it is, track 01 called DC to switch, sending to send track S01-04 and S01-04 sending to S05-08 called mod01-04.
Maybe I should post this in Renoise song also?
Oh yeah, and its 3.2 only Renoise effects bla… blah…a blalalha…a.alallblaModMatrix4x4-0.3smoothGen.xrns (39.3 KB)

Changing BPM of pre-sliced breaks
Hi, basically I think I might be missing something really simple that would speed my workflow up a bit…
I’ve been using the awesome “200 Breakbeats Instruments” xrni pack by Ripley that’s floating about, and I think the way I am adapting the breaks to fit the BPM of my track might be a bit convoluted…
Basically my workflow is:
- load the xrni break instrument onto a track
- select thew first slice in the Samples panel and hit beatsync, then hit “t” to get the transpose/finetune values
- selecting all of the other slices and copying the transpose/finetune values over from the first slice to get them all to the same pitch.
Is there a quicker way of doing this? It seems a bit roundabout and I thought there might be something I’m missing! Now I’ve written it down it doesn’t seem like such a long process but I just thought I’d check!
Thanks in advance!

Missing In Docs: sample_modulation_sets[]:insert_device_at()
There seems to be a missing parameter in the API docs for:
sample_modulation_sets[]:insert_device_at (device_path , missing param ,index)
The docs say:
– Insert a new device at the given position. “device_path” must be one of
– renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[].available_devices.
.
.
renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:insert_device_at(device_path, index)
-> [returns new renoise.SampleModulationDevice object]
But in order to inset the device in a specific lane you need to put in an extra int so it becomes:
:insert_device_at(device_path, lane_index ,index)
Where lane_index is one of the following:
VOLUME = 1
PANNING = 2
PITCH = 3
CUTOFF = 4
RESONANCE = 5
Just Double checked here to make sure I didn’t have out of date docs but it looks to be the same:
github.com renoise/xrnx/blob/master/Documentation/Renoise.Song.API.lua#L2095- -- Reset all chain back to default initial state. Removing all devices too.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:init()
- -- Copy all devices from another SampleModulationSet object.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:copy_from(
- other renoise.SampleModulationSet object)
- -- Insert a new device at the given position. "device_path" must be one of
- -- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[].available_devices.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:insert_device_at(device_path, index)
- -> [returns new renoise.SampleModulationDevice object]
- -- Delete a device at the given index.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:delete_device_at(index)
- -- Access a single device by index.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:device(index)
- -> [renoise.SampleModulationDevice object]
- -- upgrade filter type to the latest version. Tries to find a somewhat matching
- -- filter in the new version, but things quite likely won't sound the same.
- renoise.song().instruments[].sample_modulation_sets[]:upgrade_filter_version()

Renoise mixer scale
Im not quite sure how to phrase this question.
But what kind of scale does the renoise mixer use?
Is there a way to set it to dbfs?
