[tool idea(s)] envelope generator for envelope device in instrument editor

Renoise Forum - March 17, 2019 - 07:47

@Jonas wrote:

There are great tools out there already to generate shapes in the automation editor like automasher ( https://www.renoise.com/tools/automasher ) & automatron ( https://www.renoise.com/tools/automatron ), if only these tools would also let you output to the envelope device in the instrument editor.

I know you can generate shapes from above said tools, copy & paste from the automation editor into an envelope device (and/or lfo external editor), but the shapes wont automatically scale into a set envelope device length.

I think the envelope device is one of the most powerful modulation options we have, but has much more potential that could be more easily tapped into through tools. For Renoise 2.8 there is a tool where you can have envelopes generated for the envelope device in the pitch tab from the instrument editor based on the note events in the pattern editor ( New Tool (2.8): Notes to Envelop ), unfortunately 4teys hack for 3.1 is lost with the forum migration.

Afta’s Reseq ( New Tool (2.8): ReSeq ) would be the ultimate envelope pitch controller,…

…but that one also stopped working after Renoise 2.8

May the script gods please fix above issues or create a tool for ultimate envelope device mangling.

Cheers.

A couple days after making the track The Egg and posting it here, inspiration struck again, and I made another 14 minute track in my “drum and drone” (tribal + drone and ambient) style. This one has a little more of an electronica flavor although at 145 bpm, lots of hypnotic tribal beats, eerie female vocal ambience throughout with sampled synthesizers and in a couple parts an offbeat bass.

Scroll sensitivity?

In Renoise / Redux, is there any way you can adjust the sensitivity of the scroll of the trackpad?

I’m using a laptop and in OS you can adjust the scroll, but it doesn’t change anything in Renoise / Redux no matter what I do.

Offline resampler tool

Hi,

is there a offline resampler tool, which makes it possible to resample 44,1kHz based drum sounds to 48kHz using insane, perfect quality?

I remember there is the CDP tool, but I cannot make it work. Also SOX tool. Do those command line tools provide an insane resampler algorithm?

Renoise.song().patterns[].is_empty Doesn't Detect Automation

The documentation claims that renoise.song().patterns[].is_empty will “quickly check if a pattern has some pattern lines or automation.” I’m trying it on a pattern that does have automation though nothing in the Pattern Editor, but it returns true.

Hi,

was there a tool and maybe even internal, so I can write a start midi pitchbend value and an end pitchbend value, select first one or range, press shortcut and it will smoothly ramp / calculate the inertia values?

Same for mod wheel.

Issue with the slicer

Renoise Forum - March 13, 2019 - 14:49

@dspasic wrote:

Anyone else facing this particular issue with automatic slicer?
I miss the one from Emulator x3 it was so straightforward. I’ve recorder example when i set sensitivity lower, it slices quieter parts than the louder part it should be slicing.

Is it misbehaving, or i’m not using it right? I’ve had mpc, used recycle for slicing, EMU x3 (for chopping using treshold), etc. And to me it seems that this in renoise is not behaving as others?

Expected results:
To slice parts of equal loudness and onward

Achieved results:
Sliced parts are one quiet, and other loud parts, leaving the ones in-between unsliced?

Thanks in advance!

Bad performance without compositing - Linux

Renoise Forum - March 10, 2019 - 18:13

@lilith wrote:

Hi,

today I found some strange behaviour for which I don’t have any explanation. I’m using RENOISE on Debian / Stretch with the XFCE desktop. I’m using the debian stock kernel (4.9.0-8-amd64) at the moment. But I observe the same behaviour also with the Real Time kernel.

When I disable the compositing in XFCE or don’t use Compton (using both at the same time is not possible) as the compositor I very quickly get xruns and the DSP load is driving roller coaster. Renoise is becoming very slow and the xorg process reaches almost 100%.

When I enable Compton or the XFCE own compositor everything goes back to normal. Strange thing is that I never stumbled upon that issue. Also I would think that using a compositor will make xruns more likely in any case, but actually this is not what I observe.

I made a little video:
While it’s playing with Compton until ~ 0:30 the Renoise DSP load is ~16%.
Then after killing compton it’s increasing to 25% and running a xrun counter script gives the first xruns at ~64% or lower…and Renoise is becoming slow.

At 1:55 I started compton again and DSP load goes down again. When starting the xrun counter script I get the first xrun at ~ 90% (not shown).

I did the same test with REAPER and I don’t see any difference there between activated or deactivated compositing. Is there any explanation for this?

Customising the Plugin List

Hi everybody,
I just wantet to ask, if there is any possibility or tool to save / export / import the plugin list in renoise.
I spent hours to customize, sort and rename the installed VST plugins and I’d love to migrate this list to another Computer with the same VSTs installed.

Thx in advance
