Renoise and Ableton Live
@JOAO_MASCARENHAS wrote:
Hello Guys
I’ve been using trackers for more than 20 years. I can use other stuff very well like Pro Tools or Reaper, but recently i was hired for a company that like my portfolio but they want me to use Ableton Live and i feel like i went back 20 years.
I wonder if the Renoise Redux would help. I mean, they would let me use it because it’s a plugin, but wouldn’t want me to use another DAW “because it would be unfair to the other sound designers”, Yes… everyone used other DAWs… why? Yeah, because no one like it.
Anyway, do any of you know if Renoise Redux can help me write music the oldschool way and make it into Live so they all can be happy seeing the music in that #/(E&" DAW?
Thank you very much

No more licenses issued for VST2
@ColaEuphoria wrote:
Usually when a company “deprecates” a standard, it can still be used independently of the company’s authority. However, this is not the case with VST2. As of October 2018, Steinberg has stopped issuing licenses for the proprietary standard.
Anyone who has acquired a license prior may continue using the standard for now, but the distribution of new VST2 plugins is legally dubious at this point. Whether or not VST3 offers any features over VST2 is irrelevant.
This especially hurts open source and/or individual plugin developers who would not want to risk getting sued for creating new VST2 plugins. Today VST3 is more widely supported than it ever was, including but not limited to Reaper, FL Studio, Bitwig Studio, and even Ableton Live, which seemed like they would never support it.
I suggest and hope with all sincerity that the Renoise team will strongly consider supporting VST3 this time. (And/or LV2)

Toggle Midi Clock Send
@luisaguirre wrote:
I’m probably setting this up incorrectly, but I can’t seem to toggle my midi clock send from Renoise other than by opening preferences and ticking off the send midi clock preference.
When I looked at the Manual, it said there should be a midi clock toggle switch by the BPM in the transport. When it is there, it doesn’t do anything. I click it and when I hit play it still sending the clock to my controller which starts to play it’s sequence.
My goal is to send the start/stop to my sequencer via Renoise but have the ability to toggle that command quickly without having to keep opening the preference panel.
Am I missing something?

Trojan/False Positive in the installation file?
@Cedric wrote:
Hello, ive download both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Renoise and both installation files have been identified as “Trojan.Win32.Hesv!O”
Has the Renoise website been infected recently or is this a false positive?

Delete/Insert sample mappings?
@PPH wrote:
Years ago I made a little tool that has been very useful to me: it uses the file names of samples to automatically generate key mappings. That worked with Renoise 2.8. Then the API changed and the tool didn’t work in the new versions. It didn’t even load. I didn’t have the time or the energy at the time to attempt to make it work in the new versions, and left it at that. I never released the tool. When I needed it, I just used Renoise 2.8. But each time I used it, I thought it would be nice to release it, since I think it could be very useful to others.
Now I want to make it work in Renoise 3.1 and managed to make it load (by changing the version number in the manifest; duh). But there are two functions that aren’t available anymore:
instrument:delete_sample_mapping_at(renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON,
#instrument.sample_mappings[renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON])
instrument:insert_sample_mapping(renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON, baseNotes[i][2], baseNote, range)
My guess is there must be some easy replacement for that code. So the question is: how does one delete and how does one insert a sample mapping in an instrument nowadays?

Duplex : new 4 tracks global config for Launchpad mk2
@lymix wrote:
Hi
I made a special config for the Launchpad mk2 to use with a 4 track song
It has a 4*8 gridpie, 4 solo, 4 mute, 4 track select, transport and a mini keyboard, plus dedicated pads for the repeater.
i made it cause i wanted all those functions on a single layer without switching configurations (playing a live set wtih 4 instruments /tracks)
If anyone 's interested i can share it.

Licorice Skin for Renoise
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
Since we don’t have a Skins Category on the forum here (almost ALL of the searches that Google has cached lead to an “Oops! That page doesn’t exist or is private.” page, does anybody have the Licorice Skin? It looks great. Would like to be able to use it

Keyboard variety in pattern editor
@Macgomes wrote:
Hello everyone,
When I am not using the keyboard ( real one ;), thus only composing from the pc key board , it would be verry handy to see the chord / notes played .
So maybe there’s some place in the spectrum analyzer/scope view to show the keyboard

Scripting Terminal editor...?

Hello everyone,
I’m reading on some places about a scripting and editing terminal for Renoise but I can’t find anything like it on the tool page, nor on the Renoise site itself about it. Where and how do I get it?

Rediscovering my tracking past; inspired chiptune shares
@Anarkist wrote:
Hey all; I post pretty rarely, but using Renoise since 2003 (and other trackers going back). Not sure why but I’ve been on a particular nostalgia kick going back through a bunch of old tracker files and demo scene stuff. I use Renoise as 1/2 of my main DAW setup 100% these days, but while making more contemporary music. Being inspired by revisiting tracker history encouraged me to strip everything away in Renoise and utilize primarily column, panning, volume only and not much else. This is mostly inspired by early NES, 8 bit music, and chiptunes in general. I’ve done chip-inspired stuff from time to time historically, but it’s rare I share any of it these days.
I Just felt the impact of the scene on my life and wanted to share a few revisits of the past into the present. Here’s a couple of recent Renoise chiptunes inspired by the tracker music scene/game music.

Hey guys, another hip-hop instrumental for you guys to check out. In this case everything was done with a couple loops in Renoise. Kept the scratches with the U and D commands more subtle this time. I think I’m addicted to that command though.
Enjoy.

Idea from bitwig's sampler (or reason's grain)
@dspasic wrote:
Hi guys, not trying to be boring whatsoever, i just wanted to know if there is maybe some path in the future to improve sampler, having functionality of latest bitwig sampler update? - as it is main point of renoise (from my perspective)? Or like reason’s grain? - sorry yet again, i know that many people ask similar question if XYZ will be implemented or so…
If inappropriate, i will remove this topic ( or if it has been asked already).
Thanks in advance. (needless to mention that i love renoise as it is )
