Asian Madness [Experimental EDM]

Last week I released a “semi-song” on soundcloud divided into two parts, experimental electro house would probably be the most accurate definition, but that’s up to you to decide. I hope you like the songs, any feedbacks or comparisons will be appreciated

[Bug / Good practice] Linux - Renoise doesn't use standard xdg directories / pollutes $HOME
@DWRL wrote:
Having not used Renoise for a while, I installed and ran it, and now I have two new directories in my home folder:
.renoise Renoise“.renoise” should probably go to “$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS/renoise”, e.g. “~.config/renoise”, to decrease folder load (which can be a problem on linux).
“Renoise” would best be moved to “$XDG_DATA_HOME/renoise”, e.g. “~/.local/share/renoise”, or, to ‘mimic’ current behaviour “$XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR/Renoise” (which would be a no-go, see below).
For reference, XDG Base Directory Specification, precisely here, and a similiar bug report (with more extendend reasoning) on snapd here.
The dotfolder I don’t care to much about, albeit it would be nice.
The unsolicited Library folder on the other hand is an annoyance. It can’t be hidden, since on linux this would need me to rename it to “.Renoise”, which would be pointless (e.g. not working), and clutters my $HOME visibly.
It just doesn’t belong there. If every software did this, I’d have about 200 folders in my $HOME…
Right now I moved “Renoise” to “~/.local/share/renoise”, and use this script to start the application:
#!/bin/sh ln -s "~/.local/rennoise" "~/Renoise" renoise unlink "~Renoise"But this means unnecessary file operations, and isn’t exactly elegant…

STNR - Afleiðingar neyslu mix

STNR - Afleiðingar neyslu mix
this is a short mix of a few short tracks i produced around 6 months ago.
all of it was created in renoise using drum samples and noise sample wizardry and a few fx plugins.
i also want to say that i produced this around late last summer, and it was only recently that i discovered the sample loop control tool (which is now my favorite plugin/tool)… hopefully some of you will understand why i say that, when you listen to this stuff.
if you like this mix and want to hear the full release, you can download it from this link:

Hi,
my first song where I sing … Pretty scary tho.
Everything is made with my instruments, my hands and Renoise with only bare plugins (and zynaddsubfx for some synths.)
Hope you’ll enjoy it !
ps: My voice is naturally awfull but I had difficulties to mix it correctly… If someone have some advices, I would be pleased !

Device type defaults to ALSA? Startup errors

I’m using Jack and have Renoise set accordingly, but every time I launch it for the first time it says ALSA can not open and it will use Jack instead… How do I make it so Jack is always the default? It doesn’t seem to recognise my settings.

Gain Staging in Renoise
@luisaguirre wrote:
Do any of you gain stage with Renoise? If so, how do you go about it? I also use Reason and in Reason their’s a gain knob in their mixer panel I can use to gain stage before mixing. Was wondering if Renoise offered something similar.

Here is just a small track with EDM synths from VST Falcon, and hand-drawed chiptune sounds in sample editor.
First time I’ve tried the draw tool…

Here’s the instrumental, may it please ya:

The beat started out with sampling this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWQ1V7XkAeA but I ended up removing the sample, so now it’s just the beat and the bass line (which is played by Chris Hülsbeck’s MicroSynt of all things :D) from that.

Used Renoise rewired into Reaper for this one. The scratches are actually wav files with the pitch U and D commands which I learned through a youtube tutorial a while back. Gotta be my favorite Renoise trick yet.

Set to 12 cores but only one is used
@whisp wrote:
Hi!
I’ve recently bought a new PC with an i7-8700k. It has 6 cores, 12 logical processors, which show as 12 cores/CPUs in Renoise.
The thing is: Songs i created with my 8 years old PC don’t run anymore on the new rig, due to the engine stopping “because it used too much CPU for quite a long time.”
When i check the CPU usage in the task-manager parallely, it stays at around 15% total, compared to Renoise’s 90%+ usage.
Obviously Renoise fails to use the cores for some reason.
I’ve tried it with different amount of cores set in Renoise, it didn’t help. And disabled overload prevention, and got no more message, but the song started stuttering at 99.9% usage.
I don’t know what else i could try. Any help is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Mario

Limit the volume of a track to avoid spikes (DSP chain)
@Raul wrote:
What would be the cleanest way to limit the volume of a track so that the instrument did not exceed the highest volume set, without the final sound of the track (its texture) changing too much?
That is, only recotar the highest peaks without influencing the rest of the sound along the track, with the condition that the resulting sound is as close to the real as possible.
What concrete configuration in the track’s DSP (Dynamics Devices) should I use?

Problem with addressing multiple ASIO channels
@fredeke wrote:
Hello.
My Renoise version is 3.1.1 (build Feb 6 2017), and my soundcard is a 64-channel RME HDSPe MADI.
I’d like to route each Renoise track to a different output, in order to mix my songs in an analog mixer. However, in each track’s output menu (as well as the master track’s), only the first two channels are available. This menu used to offer all 32 stereo pairs as possible outputs, but now it only shows channels 1 and 2 as one sole stereo output.
Same problem with the inputs (though that I could live with) : only the first two inputs appear in Renoise, where all 64 used to.
I don’t know what has changed in my config. Other DAWs like Reaper still see all the ins and outs, and I am still using the ASIO engine in Renoise (I didn’t switch to DirectSound). Also, RME’s mixer util is in “DAW” mode, which means it is bypassed, and supposedly not messing with routing.
Does anyone know what could be the problem ?
Please help, I am stuck.
Thanks
