Render global pitch?
@snaper wrote:
Hi Guys,
Is it possible to render the global pitch setting for a sample (instrument)?
I’m working on a bunch of single cycle waveforms, checked for key, set the pitch settings for all of them to be in key and now I’d like to use them outside Renoise, but, I do not want to re-start the whole cutting procedure again :S

Renoise Community Song Collab V1!
@LegendaryTaunt wrote:
So how about we all collab on a Renoise song?
I’ve started this sketch and I would love for the community to build upon it until we have a completed tune.
Let’s try to set some constants though.
-
For this song, the bpm is 130 and LBP set to 4. Let’s try to work within those constraints this time and if things go smoothly then maybe someone can switch gears and do something different.
-
In the song comments, note what you did as the top most comment but keep the previous comments so we can “track” who did what.
-
If you add/create any samples, make a header for yourself in the instrument section and list your name and throw your samples in there.
-
Try not to delete anyone else’s work, but do put your own spin on things.
-
Try add something as fast as you can and re-upload so that the next person can join in.
-
Don’t use any external vst’s/instruments when you save and submit. This is to maintain consistently when another person grabs the project. if you have to use external vst’s or instruments, just render what you’ve added and then add it to a channel, then delete the instruments. Now we won’t have to worry about not having plugin X or Instrument Y to play the song.
This is a beta and if all goes well someone can start Round 2 with a new song and we can all contribute to it.
Please add something as fast as you can and then re-upload. If it gets to a point to where you think you have an arrangement idea, then do it!
Also, when you reply, please note what you did in this this thread just to give the next person a heads up.
Ready?
Renoise Song Collab V1 Initial:
- adds chord melody
- adds bass (can be changed)
- adds muted lead sound
- adds hi hat sound (can be removed or changed. It’s just a placeholder)
Here is the project file: http://bit.ly/RenoiseCollabV1
Let’s do this!

Workflow Tips 2019
@Garf wrote:
Let’s share TIPS that makes us work FAST in Renoise in 2019 even those you may think are obvious.
-
In the lower effects panel. Right click the spacing between effects and Add Favorite effect. Up until today I have actually used the search bar, but that’s just slow and stupid for selecting favorites hence this thread.
-
Do set up a full template song with all the essential tracks and groups you know you always use, even insert a couple of your most used instruments and kick samples.
-
If you must have a mastering chain on when composing then make a rudimentary using only native effects as they are low latency. Even effects that are turned off on the mastering chain still add their latency to the song and with commercial effects usually adding quite a lot of latency that quickly becomes an issue. When you are finished fiddling with your song do a proper mastering job.

Read-Write Glitch Doofer
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
OK, so I’ve been working hard at creating Max/MSP-like glitchy Doofers with the built-in tools. I was able to create one that is based on the delay effects, namely the deprecated “Stutter” effect. Sounds pretty cool, but it’s totally based on a delay effect that is audible, and causes phasing sounds here and there. PDC and DC are also delay effects, but not like a regular echo-style.
I want more of a granular, randomized glitchy break-up of the sound, not the typical repeater/choppy effects. I need an effect that is closer to a digital read-write head with fluctuating size and also has the ability to adjust the tonality.
So, I created a Doofer using the PDC Latency tool and the DC Offset tool. Controlled with LFOs on random, and parameters assigned to knob control so you can adjust the generalized amount of latency and offset. After getting the initial design of the Doofer down, I wanted the ability to give the sound more subtlety, so it’s not just clicking and popping as a loud sound source.
To do that, I ended up placing a Chebyshev 8n filter at the end, set to high-pass, with knobs to control the cutoff and “ripple”. Very nicely now, I can adjust the crispness of the audio source. Clicks and pops can sound loud like the original sound, or light and subtle, like tiny raindrops.
Of course, the Doofer is easy to modify, and the adventurous can add more knobs and parameter adjustments to increase/decrease the effect to their choosing. This one is call “Read-Write”

Audio from VST instrument to MIDI (notes), and feed MIDI data it to another track
@pyc wrote:
Probably I’m asking too much, but is anyone aware how can notes from audio output from some VST instrument can be in realtime fed to another track. I guess some very advanced VST fx is needed, but I don’t even know if VSTfx can output notes to another track? Probably not, yeah?
Tried Melodyne, but it just detects MIDI notes, it can’t output it to track.

Collect and Save all samples/instruments of a Song
@Fasttracker wrote:
I made songs and the samples and instruments that i used are in many different folders of my computer… how can i “automatically” save all those samples and instruments into one folder (or file) to make a “real” backup of the song? also to be able to save the song-file with all samples on a stick and continue working on the song on another computer with renoise… i can not find this possibility.
Thank you.

OSX: Menu item category titles missing upon start

I’ve just noticed this.
When I start Renoise in OSX, the menu bar items are gone, but if you mouse over them, the drop downs are still active and you can see the sub menus. After clicking the header they come back… eventually.

Problem with Scripting & Terminal editor 'Close tab' shortcut
@antharia wrote:
I use a mac with an azerty keyboard.
Scripting & Terminal editor ‘Close tab’ shortcut is cmd+W
I have to do cmd+Z to close a tab, and it’s messing with ‘Undo’ shortcut.
The other shortcuts seems fine.

Faster Project Saving
@visinin wrote:
To combat data loss, some time ago I enabled auto-save. Unfortunately, on some of my bigger projects, this means that every 10 minutes or so, I’m waiting for up to 30 seconds with the UI frozen for the save to complete. This is often disruptive to whatever I happen to be doing at the time, and it would be great if saving wasn’t a “stop the world” type operation.
From a technical standpoint: I know that saving plugin state has to happen on the main/UI thread (differs from plug to plug but generally a safe assumption), but the slow parts of an .xrns save (judging by the status bar messages) seem to be compressing native sampler instruments, saving IRs from the convolvers, etc. All Renoise-internal modules. Seems like it could be possible to push that off onto a background thread.

Deprecated Stutter Effect, Please Reinstate Fully?
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
So, I’ve been pestering the board for an effect that does this here (watch the red portion):
After much experimenting, I figured out how to get the deprecated Stutter effect to mostly do this. It’s pretty much the same, less the ability to automate the movement of the read/write head. Also, because it seems to be delay-based, versus just moving an automated playhead, there are some delay artefacts depending the settings (phasing/lo-fi sound).
With the Stutter effect and two LFOs, I can get the effect to
- Loop small segments of audio
- Change the size of the playhead
Stuff those into a Doofer, and it’s ready-to-go whenever I need it.
As you know, Stutter is not at all the same as the Repeater. It’s much more adjustable, subtle, and softer on the ear due to the dry / wet effect level settings.
What I’m asking for is for the Stutter effect to actually be moved back to the regular effects. No other effect, no matter how much I modulate it with LFOs does what the Stutter effect does. It’s excellent for ambient flittering of audio, and is actually a fairly advanced tool to use properly. It’s not a toy.
If the capability of reversing the audio were added into this effect it would be optimal for creating ambient washes / haze. If it used a buffer and a moveable audio head instead of delay, it would be able to do even more, such as pitch-shifting (and it would get rid of the lo-fi and phasing). Pair that with the time-stretching that’s been attached recently, we’d quickly move into some even more amazing audio effects (especially if that could become an effect in it’s own right).
Please reinstate the Stutter effect? I have been using it via the ffx.tools.NativeDSPContextMenu plugin. It really shouldn’t be hidden, though. It’s very valuable.
