Setup midi to trigger a ducking curve in gatekeeper?
@Land_of_Bits wrote:
he guys since i bought gatekeeper i’ve used it as my main method for sidechain/ducking since its trigger via midi and it doesnt have to deal with the timing issues that compressors and envelope followers have
so how can i set it up ??
using a signal follower with a short click i can trigger the “Go parameter” which is the one that sets the curve-shape in motion but then im relying on the signal follower and the timing issues and all that
automating the value like the picture also doenst fix the issue ???

[BUG] Phrase Editor: Keymap: Autoseek button fails!
@Raul wrote:
(W10 x64, R3.1.1 & R3.2.0)
There seems to be a small error with the Autoseek button (switch), in the phrase editor, with the playback mode in Keymap:
- Create a native instrument.
- Inside the phrase editor, configure the playback mode of the instrument in “Keymap”.
- Create various phrases.
- Be sure to select a phrase that is not linked to the virtual piano.
- Problem: the Autoseek button remains “active”, when it should be inactive, like the rest of the controls. In fact, this button does not react when pressed (it is not possible to activate / deactivate).
This also happens in 3.2.0 and also in version 3.1.1…

[3.2] New Doofer: PEDALBOARD Effects Chain
@trueschool wrote:
After reading this article about the “best” signal chain for guitar effects, I decided to string out the recommended signal chain and save it as a Renoise Doofer.
PEDALBOARD- Straight Line.xrdp (19.8 KB)
I found the article educational about the best place to put certain types of effects, like putting a compressor first, a noise gate before your “ambience” effects like delay and reverb, and a final EQ at the end of the chain.
Of course this is useful for other types of sounds besides guitar, and it’ll be fun to run different types of signals through it.
One last caveat – all the effects in the chain are switched ON by default, so there is a lot of modulation, reverb – just a lot of EVERYTHING going on. You will probably get a more usable sound by selectively turning things off and playing with the settings of each effect. Hopefully, though, it’ll get you started on making big, rawking sounds!

Backwards compatibility - old *.rns files
@TheBellows wrote:
I found some old cd/dvd with backups from old *.rns files dating back to year 2000. They all seem to fail to load, so i wonder which version is the last one that supported these old files?
I’d like to upgrade them to recent *.xrns files, how or wich versions could i use to upgrade these in the least amount of steps?

Random constant modulation value at a given frequency

Hello!
New to Renoise (have been playing with it sometimes), I am wondering how I can modulate a filter frequency in the instrument effects section with constant random values at a certain frequency (each bar for example).
Cheers!

Random signals recorded in sequencer
@devospice wrote:
I started working on a new song last night and had to use a different MIDI interface than the one I normally do because I couldn’t get the drivers for the other one installed. The thing I’m using is a PreSonus AudioBox USB interface.
It worked, but as I was sequencing notes I’d get these random signals showing up in the sequencer as if it was recording MIDI notes from something. However, I had turned off the MIDI input, so it shouldn’t have been recording anything. I generally use my computer keyboard to sequence the notes and then let the computer play the music keyboard, so there’s rarely any need for MIDI input with my setup.
I’ve attached a screenshot of what they look like. They do always seem to be the same, although one time the first number was 03 and on playback it lowered the notes an octave.
What are they and how do I make them stop showing up?

Windows: Detached mixer / instrument window minimizing issues
@Beatslaughter wrote:
The detached mixer and instrument windows forget their size and positions (height of visualization and so on), when the main window is minimized. Related is also, minimizing the second screen with the mixer or instrument view and the window vanishes into nirvana, because it has no taskbar icon to restore it. The only way to get it back seems to be attaching and detaching the window again.

I paired a few of my more recent songs with some more driving, rhythm oriented tracks
@chemeleon wrote:
So I’ve been doing this for a while now - mashing up my own material with DnB flavoured music. This is my 8th attempt, and I have become exceedingly good at it (whether it itself is good I can’t be certain).
Sorry if this isn’t the most appropriate place to post it - but some of you guys know some of my material, so you might have a slightly different reaction to those at the KvR forum (pretty much a unanimous “it’s noise”, which I totally understand - but it isn’t, at least if you know the tracks. And even if you don’t. I spent a lot of time finding pairings and arrangements as close to perfect as I could wrap my paws around).
There’s a YouTube video here : https://youtu.be/-4ziTIo_WsU
( If you want to like my Facebook video instead, it’d be welcome and probably help me out of the lull of nobody so far liking it : https://www.facebook.com/chemeleonband/videos/523954211740094/ )
Last but not least, a (slightly out of context but potentially higher bitrate) set on SoundCloud that I recorded straight out of VirtualDJ :
(If you listen, try not to skip - be harder to ‘find your place’ in the chaos lol - but I would like your honest opinion so even if it’s ugly, I’ll take it. Even harder to gauge how good your output is when it’s in this form. If there’s something I’m undoubtedly getting wrong I’ll of course be inclined to change it next time).
As always, warm wishes and many thank yous.

[Bug] CTRL + clic & drag not work inside the phrases grid
@Raul wrote:

Organizing phrases in libraries? Ideas & suggestions
Breaking the thread a bit, I think there is an error in the phrases grid (W10, R3.2.0). Here:
[Bunch%20of%20Phrases]
Steps:
Create a phrase (slot 01)
Press CTRL + drag inside the slot to duplicate it!
This operation not work!
Returnint within this theard, I think there is a way to make that much easier with a menu tool (inside the phrases grid):
Export all Phrases Of The Instrument.
Import all the selected phrases.
The phrases are XML files. It is very easy to work with this information,…
W10, R3.2.0. The operation of [CTRL + click & drag] not work inside the phrases grid. Steps:
- Create a phrase.
- Press [CTRL + click & drag]. A symbol [+] will appear. Deposit in the next empty phrase slot.
- Problem: the cloning operation of the phrase does not work!
Drag and drop (without pressing CTRL) work correctly to sort the phrases.
…
@taktik. If you ever intend to improve the issue of handling phrases, it would be great to have an optional integrated framework to be able to read a list of all phrase names there. It would be a list of up to 126 names. There it would be easy to manage them:
- Name of the phrase, and edit it.
- Export or import multiple. Massive library management. Be able to select random phrase (not contiguous).
- Clone (with drag).
- Sort (with drag).
- Add and erase.
- There could even be additional information, such as the number of lines, the base note, etc.
An additional resizable framework could appear on the right of the phrases editor. A list similar to Sononym, perhaps?..

MacOS Catalina is not compatible with 32 bits & the software development
@Raul wrote:
I am detecting a certain alarmirsm in Apple users, because the new version of MacOS, Catalina, will not support 32 bits. So, many DAWs are not going to support 32 bit, probably migrating their most important software, all to 64bit.
The issue is that users have been living with 32 bits and 64 bits for many years. This is a huge problem for developers, who even have to launch 2 different software packages, with the enormous work that entails.
In addition, a 32bit operating system is limited to using only 3GB of RAM. It is reasonable to abandon 32bit software development, even if there are programs that do not need 64bit to function properly.
I understand that in Renoise this is also a drag. I think it is better to dedicate yourself fully to 64bit. If it is possible to continue supporting 32bit add-ons, ok. But it is very preferable to waste time in development in 64bit.
I think this situation is the direct fault of the developers, who are still developing in 32bit, and can do so in 64bit. Now many people are going to protest, but we will have to move forward in some way so that the entire time of software development is concentrated in a single package for each operating system. There are many fewer problems, and more advantages also for security and stability.
I believe that we are all going to lose many plugins along the way, which are made only in 32bit, but we will have to settle for that and move forward. In fact, Renoise 3.2.0 has graphic problems using 32bit add-ons. And you must support this 32bit software. Do you see the extra work that all this implies? If Renoise only supported 64bit, everything would work better and there would be more time to improve the 64bit package.
What bothers you personally about this whole matter?

Open-source album 'Further Beyond Serendipity' [foot281]

Renoise has been my main music production tool for many years. After not having been active for a while, Renoise has called me again, and I have created an album of ten bitpop tracks.

Another Bag of Tricks: Randomizing pitches....and samples?
@beatsgo wrote:
This topic builds off of concepts I presented in another thread that will be used to demonstrate a unique way of instrument/audio designing. A interesting concept that I’ve been toying around is how to randomize sample pitches. It’s fairly simple:
- Underneath pitch in the modulation chain, define 2 modulations: stepper and operand
- Stepper: configure it as shown below
- Operand: configure it as shown below
Now you have an instrument that randomly plays different pitches when hitting note.
This effect is great but comes with a downside: one modulation for a set of samples, not good for . Let say if 2 samples are assigned to that specific modulation chain we created, both of them are assigned the same pitch offset for every key press.
Instead of seeing a modulation chain as multiple outputs, think of it as a single channel/output. Treat each sample as an operator. If you put in that perspective, separate each sample to their own modulation chain as below. You can duplicate and modify the operand to suite your degree of detuning.
Let’s take this step one step further. What if you have 3 samples and only want to execute 2 per key press? The catch is the samples are executed at random at will. Right you can do that…
…but you can only trigger one key press at a time. That is unless you create a phrase that states 2 samples (no defined samples)…thus…
