First Track in Renoise :) (old skool / drum n bass)
Hi, this is my first full track made with Renoise. Mostly stock sounds and some free samples.
A bit of a background… I’ve dipped in and out of music making since the late 90’s - and after a big gap I’m getting back into doing some stuff.
I randomly came across Renoise while seeing what was around sequencing wise other than Reaper, Ableton Live, etc, and liked what I found. In so far as the tracker style, I had a couple of friends that used trackers back in the day, but I’d already clicked with Cubase, so my only real tracker experience was watching what they’d done. Fast forward 20 odd years and I’m enjoying the workflow and quick results I can get from sequencing in such a way in Renoise.
In a few months, I’ve found my way around, and have a handful of tracks and loads more bits and pieces on the go. Forced myself to actually finish one, and this is the result.
I’m into all sorts from beats to breakcore., for some reason this came out like some kind of early 90’s club rave DnB chill track. Truly though, I find it hard to categorise any of the music I’ve made, so I’ll leave interpretation up to you, the listener. Enjoy!
p.s. thanks to the renoise video tutorials and the kind folk on the forums here who share their knowledge. It all helps in learning.

Renoise freeze when VST has opens additional dialog window
It happens twice - one time in SynthMasterPlayer Free and second time with AlchemyPlayerFree.
Both VST displays standard dialog with question about downloading extra content or just with info about discount when you’ll want to buy paid version. And in both cases that standard Windows dialogs are non-clickable (or at least extremely difficult to click).
Please, fix it. *)
*) this last is for those who wants to share some trick how to made workaround instead of treating it as a bug; sorry - I’m just hoping some Renoise programmer will read this post and find a solution so next update will be better; and I checked this on two computers - the same result

Blind man music production workflow
Instrument for Volca
after a long time I pulled out the volca keys and connected via Renoise. I created a simple doofer to control the hardware. Everything was fine so I created an instrument. I restarted Renoise and load the instrument. It worked. But now he doesn’t always react to change. where is the mistake? Some idea ?
thanks.
Volca Keys.xrni (3.4 KB)
I found solution.
When i create new song i must swap output device to another and back.
Maybe behringer error.

Renoise is exceptionally bad as a vst host when sequenced externally (cirklon 2 )
I love renoise but this is more of a rant about renoise being a vst host , iow instruments and vst’s being sequenced from hardware
I have one of the finest/tighest hardware sequencers on the market , cirklon 2
I didn’t even use the cirkloon usb out but the physical midi out and using the roland integra as a midi interface
Here is a project with two files , first reaper being the host , the other renoise
The instrument being controlled is a single microtonic channel .
Sequenced at 140 bpm , first the sequencer doing 16th notes , then 32 the notes and lastly 64 th notes
Renoise just struggles with the input , even noticeable at 16 th notes .
Reaper otoh is supertight
Will do some more testing with other hosts , but damn this is bad
Edit added a new file , both alligned to see the actual jitter
Left channel reaper (upper ) , right channel renoise (lower )
Noppes can’t do , filesize too big ( even after rarring )
exceptionally bad.xrns (3.8 MB)

After 20 years of tracking I released an instrumental rock/metal album made entirely in Renoise (samples, VSTs, VST automation). Dawn of Neptune - Earthridden
What started as demoing songs for our band about 10 years ago turned into “let’s see what we can do with Renoise”, and evolved into my solo project of instrumental, chiptune-influenced metal, tracked entirely in Renoise, including guitars.

How to render individual tracks to files with the effects on a group applied?
I have 6 tracks in one “group”, the “group” has one reverb on it that’s being automated.
How can I render these 6 tracks seperatly with the automated reverb applied?
and yes, I know I can render the whole group.
What I want to achieve is 6 tracks rendered seperatly with the group fx applied.

*Something* broke, 40hz hum in Master, no sound
Win 10, Renoise 3.3.2, bunch of VSTs and samples, RME Babyface Pro.
I was making a sweet flute solo with Spitfire Audio BBC Symphony Orchestra, when suddenly there was a POP and this demon of 40hz (or something like that) appeared. It’s there and basically renders the Master channel unable to play anything at all.
Mind you, it’s only this track, so other songs work just fine.
So, I started to remove anything that was added to see what could possibly be a culprit for this nuisance. I first deleted each and every VST from the song, then I removed each and every effect (both VSTs and Natives), then each and every pattern, then all the tracks. It still persists. Let me repeat: there’s exactly one empty track, one empty instrument and one empty pattern in that song, from which, mystically, appears 40hz signal that kills all audio.
Wut do? I can send the file to anyone willing to test it, if necessary.

Ok, my first track shared here. Enjoy!
(still needs to be mixed and mastered properly, but this will be done by someone else sometime in the future)

Renoise handling of VSTs with built-in sequencers
Why is it that the NOTE-OFF command is always ignored when a VST has a built-in sequencer? I’ve mostly come across this with Roland Cloud instruments (such as the 303, 808 etc.) and with some Kontakt instruments. Also XLN Audio XO. TBH it seems like this is mostly an issue with sequencers in drum VSTs.
Most of the time you don’t even need to trigger the sequence with a note in the pattern editor. It just starts playing as soon as i hit space, whether there’s a note in the track or not, and the only way to stop it seems to be to mute the track completely. I’m not even sure if this is a Renoise issue or just an issue with DAWs in general, but it drives me crazy not being able to trigger a Roland 303 sequence for example with a note in the pattern editor, and NOTE-OFF when i want it to stop. As it is now i have to automate the track volume to go to 0, but that doesn’t take into account any in-VST effects there might be (delay or whatever) like a NOTE-OFF would do. It just cuts everything off entirely.
Am i missing something?

Question; How will a MIDI controller with "endless" type knobs function?
Like on the Akai MPK Mini MK3 for example.
I want to use knobs that doesn’t set themselves on one value, so if I rotate the volume one one channel, change the MIDI CC preset via the controller itself so the knob has a different function (like delay send) I want it to continue turning it up/down from the position it was in software, not in the hardware positon like on regular knobs that have a start and end position.
I hope I was able to explain this properly.

GUI and computer keyboard input lag when a particular vst tooltip is displayed
While the tooltip for the operator envelopes of Tracktion’s f.'em vst is displayed in Renoise, Renoise’s gui stops updating smoothly and its computer keyboard’s note input lags.
There is no apparent increase in consumption of hardware resources. The issue occurs immediately on moving the cursor to where the tooltip would be displayed, and ends immediately on removing it.
This occurs on 3.2.2 x64 on Windows 10.
Steps to reproduce:
- Launch Renoise.
- Set an instrument to use Tracktion’s f’em vst as a plugin.
- Enable Renoise’s oscilloscope.
- Notice that playing notes with the computer keyboard occurs without latency and the oscilloscope updates smoothly.
- Mouse over an f’em operator envelope so the tooltip appears.
- Notice that keyboard note input immediately lags and the oscilloscope no longer updates smoothly.
- Move the mouse away from the operator envelop so the tooltip disappears.
- Notice that the keyboard note input immediately stops lagging and the oscilloscope updates smoothly again.
The linked video demonstrates the issue with a pattern being played.

New Tool (3.3) True Track Bypass
Alpha thrown together today to help preserve some CPU cycles. Mutes all instrument columns and bypasses all fx.
Use cases:
-Discover CPU hogging tracks.
-Doing a manual render and ‘freeze’ of a high CPU track.
-Preserving experimental/ sound design tracks for later and free up the CPU
0.51 quick update:
-when non-inst tracks have no DSPs to bypass, a staus is shown and the button will not default to orange
ledger.scripts.TrueTrackBypass_V0.51.xrnx
Shortcut
True Track Bypass
GUI
- Toggle Button for each track: mutes all note columns and bypasses fx on track
Muted instrument tracks = Red
Muted group/send/master = Orange
- Track selection buttons on left.
NOTES:
Tracks aren’t fully muted and sends and groups will still allow sound to pass. It’s just all devices and notes will be bypassed.
If you have a device that you don’t want switched back on when using the tool, put it in a doofer and it will keep its bypassed state.
