Hide Renoise title bar [feature request]
Hi, I would like to request a pretty simple feature: a GUI option to hide/disable Renoise’s custom title bar. I have found a similar request in the past so I believe I am not the only person looking for it
The reasons why I would like to have this features are:
- UI homogeneity
- Saving vertical space
- Reduce visual pollution
Thanks!

My Akai MPK Mini Keeps Making Piano Sounds With Instruments
So whenever I use my Akai Mini MK2 to play notes on individual instruments I’ll hear the sound of note being played, but it ends in a piano noise which is rather annoying. I use my keyboard whenever I’m doing anything in Renoise because using the laptop keyboard is kind of bothersome to me. If anyone can help that would be awesome, thanks.

Tascam Model 12 / Renoise Mac Midi Clock Master/Slave Question
Hi there,
I’m trying to sync my Tascam Model 12 with Renoise via Midi Clock… I’ve tried this approach via Tascam’s USB port as well as using Midi cables into my Mac (also via usb but the midi ports on the Tascam).
I’m hoping this is just a simple misunderstanding on my part but I have a few notes/questions:
-
I’m trying to make Renoise the master and have Tascam be the slave. Under the midi preferences, the only options for Master are either ‘none’ or the Tascam, not Renoise itself… is this normal? Is there a way to ‘set’ Renoise as the Clock Master?
-
I’ve been able to successfully operate the other way around, where the Tascam acts as the Clock Master, to which Renoise will react and respond to any sort of moving around to the clock when operating on the Tascam… however only when the BPMs are in matching on both systems. Ideally, I’d like to be able to make music that has bpm changes… which is why I’m hoping to Renoise as the Master… is there something missing here?
-
It appears the Timecode from the Tascam doesn’t work with this pairing, as the above has only been successful when I try Midi Clock
Wrapping up, I’ll say by ultimate goal is to basically have all timing paremeters be operated by Renoise while being able to still record and mix etc in the box of the Tascam… I plan on using analag out functions for the actual recording which is why other functions aren’t super crucial. I’ll also add the Midi instrument settings have been successful when hooking up my keyboard etc… so this is mainly a clock question.
Thanks for your help as I’m still a beginner!

AudioDamage Quanta - Inf db clicks and dropouts (windows 10 VST3)
Anyone else using Quanta in Renoise? I’ve just started encountering a serious audio glitch, and I have no idea what might be causing it. Occasionally there will be extremely loud clicks that will completely top out the meters, regardless of track volume. My project is only using about 25% CPU. This happens in both the VST3 and VST2 versions. It also happens both during playback and rendering.
Here’s what a rendered Quanta track looks like. You can see the clicks that are much louder than any of the other audio.

Renoise fails to launch on Artix Linux
Upon trying to launch renoise, I get these error messages.
Renoise LOG> Error Message: An error occurred while launching the application: Renoise LOG> Error Message: 'Failed to load the resource file: 'Icons/KeyCommand_Linux.bmp'. Renoise LOG> Exception: Failed to load the resource file: 'Icons/KeyCommand_Linux.bmp'.I’ve not a clue what these resource files are and I’ve tried redownloading and extracting renoise suspecting I accidentally deleted a directory but to no avail.

Undocking views / customized views
I love Renoise for years, but two things in my workflow are real missing in Renoise. And I think probably in others too.
The day that Renoise can load multiple songs in different tabs (like in Modplug for example) and when it’s possible to drag the different windows like Effect and Instrument Browsers in a custom setup (Like in Visual Studio for example), on that day I jump so hard from my studio chair that I can say hello to my upper neighbors through the ceiling.
Is this possible to implement?
All best Mario

Another Rudimentary Granular Effect
Yet another cry for real granular effects IN Renoise, NOT VST.
I have been messing around with the Convolver convolution reverb effect. In essence, it is a very rough delay/sampler that applies an IR (impulse response) as a reverb. That’s two effects in one. It’s a delay in a way because it’s ‘Pre-delay’ function is available, from 0ms up to 500ms. The Pre-delay is basically a sampler, that can have its sampling length adjusted. Adding an LFO on random at 5LPC can give the Pre-delay a varying sample length by adjusting ‘where’ it begins. It’s imposing a delayed start on a convolution signal. Place a reverb IR in the Convolver and then modulate the Pre-delay with a random LFO. A gentle chopped-sample played out over the top of the original sample, very granular.
Where this falls short is how it does not allow modulation for a ‘start’ position or a ‘length’. By wiggling these two sliders around with the mouse, you’ll get all sorts of neat artifacts (crackling, buzzing, etc.).
I’m wondering aloud (via type). If these extra sliders could gain modulation, would we actually have a very rudimentary ‘actual’ granular device? Rock and roll, rudimentary granular effect with signal delay Then, if we could have an actual signal splitter, and place that in a doofer with say, 4 convolvers, with an actual pitch altering device, and greater pre-delay time… Heck, we’d have a really pretty smear-generator.
Ah what the heck, please just give us the granular control from the other tracker, Radium. It’s beautiful and would just be part of the sampler…
Please @taktik? Pretty please?

Alternate Version of a Song I Made
Hey users, so i’ve been working on a project for about almost, if not, a year now. And it’s finally finished! If you look back at a couple of my older posts, you can see me talking about it, but for a while, i honestly thought that it would never come to fruition. One of the main reasons i thought this, was simply that after the 5th song, i pretty much couldn’t finish any of the new songs i started up after, either i got discouraged, or i just thought it didn’t belong, or some other reason.
However, once i put finishing, above all other worries, i finally managed to complete the album, and get it out the door. I think there was a lot of things that i could’ve done differently, and i definitely learned a lot while making it, but I’m glad that i committed to it, and stuck with it for so long, and i definitely plan on making a sequel, that will pretty much get more of what i wanted to express in this one.
The song in this post however, is a alternate version of the first track on the album. I basically just tried to strip my first song down to it’s most essential elements, and compose something more straightforward for the last song on the album, as a closing track,
So that’s pretty much what this post is about, as always, if you have any feedback on; composition, mixing, or a specific section, etc, feel free to share, I’m always looking for things that i can improve on, and get better at.
Also once i get the stems to all of the tracks rendered out and in a zip file, I’ll post them here, XRNI files too. Also, all of my music is free to download, and this album is too, so if you want to sample anything them, use them in a video, or something of that nature, feel free to go ahead and do that.
I think that’s everything so here’s the link for you to listen: Listen to Noods! (Cassette Mix) by Professional Amateur in Musical Capsule (Vol. 1) playlist online for free on SoundCloud
Thank you for reading this post, and thank you very much for taking the time to listen, i hope you enjoy. Cheers!

VST: Multiple notes but no multiple volumes
Hi,
When using a sample, i am able to add extra notes and control their own volume by using the 00->80 values in the volume FX column.
When using a VST , i am also able to add extra notes, but the hardcoded volume FX (e.g. 80/40/20) are not respected/ignored and every note is played at the same volume (something that i do not want).
Green = sample = different volumes. Red = VST = one volume:
I also cannot use the other FX column since that will affect the whole track when playing multiple notes simultaneously. Automation is also not an option since that will also affect all notes.
Is there any way to accomplish what i want, besides cloning the full track + add an extra instance of the VST?
Thanks in advance.

Loading samples takes forever (or up to two minutes)
I’ll be damned. This is my first REAL issue, in 18 years.
All of a sudden, Renoise have problems loading samples.
Loading a 1MB piano sample, takes nearly two minutes. No matter if I double-click in file browser. Drag and drop from file browser or drag and drop from system.
It does not matter where I load from. Internal drives, external drives or network drives.
Opening songs (with hundreds of samples) is not a problem.
I can also load preset multi-samples and Renoise instruments (that conatin samples) I have created.
VSTi does not have an issue.
It only apply to .WAV .FLAC eg. files
Renoise freezes. Does not use more CPU or RAM.
Anyone ever experienced something like this?

Sunset (Orchestral nonsense)
Just a simple track with a solo bassoon and an ungodly amount of acoustic bass. I hope you like it!
I played FFX recently, and a particular scene sparked this thing, although I turned out to be terrible at writing for sax.

New Tool (3.3) Phase Mixer
New alpha Phase Mixer (Windows Only):
Gives you a specialised UI to make adjusting phase realtionships in your mix easier. Particularly useful and more noticable with bass frequencies (Kick vs Bass) and layered sounds but can be used to get a cleaner mix all round.
Currently requires the old Betabugs 32bit Windows VST to work:
Phasebug VST allows continuous adjustment of phase of an audio signal so you can get more precise results than a simple phase invert:
ledger.scripts.PhaseMixer_V0.5.xrnx
Shortcut: Phase Mixer
Each row in the tool contains:
- Track Select button, which will also select Phasbug in the track
- Enable/Disable/Add Phasebug to the track
- Invert Phase [In.] button to flip the phase 180 degrees
- Rotary to adjust the phase values in Phasebug (it adjusts left and right together which are independent in the plug).
NOTE: While double-clicking, the rotaries reset to 0 degrees in Phasebug, there is something wonky about either the plugs value reporting or translation to Lua values. I’ll look int this but there may be slight inaccuracies when using the Invert button aswell - but you can always readjust things by hand with the rotary.

[Bug] Sampler Effects FX Chain: Routing tracks
R3.3.2 W10
I have run into a possible internal Renoise bug using one of my tools.
- Create a new song.
- Just go to Sampler → Effects.
- Create multiple FX Chains, 2 or 3.
- Route any of them with the last available track.
- Go to the pattern editor and delete multiple tracks.
You will see that the drop-down list for the “Routing” parameter of the FX Chain that you changed earlier does not update. Therefore, the user can select nonexistent tracks. This leads to a crash. Renoise exits without any warning and all unsaved project is lost!
What should happen is that this list should be updated according to the available number of tracks (I provide an explanatory image):
Above all, check the lower drop-down list. You will see that this list is not automatically updated based on the number of available tracks.

Is there some api shortcut for "getInstrumentOfTrack()"?
Assuming each track only is used by one instrument, is there a api shorthand / native code for getting the instrument of a track? Iterating over all the pattern lines until a first instrument number appears, that seems to be very costly.
Since there is the options “Auto capture instrument from pattern”, this seems to be already implemented…

Does Renoise Store Preset Information?
I’ve written off a bunch of old projects after I installed a legitimate version of Waves Element synth and it erased all presets for those projects effectively killing them all.
Is this a perfect lesson for never using cracked software or are they retrievable SOMEHOW?!
Would really like to go back and mix them
Any help hugely appreciated.
