Question about multicore processing in relation to routing
Hi,
if my song uses a routing where almost all tracks sum into a specific send track by some amount, does this mean that all those tracks will be processed on the same cpu core then? I have some weird stuttering sometimes in a song, and wonder how I could “cpu-optimize” the project…

Dire Straits - "Sultans of swing" by 2 guys in Montréal
Uploaded this to youtube a few months ago, but it was made around summer of last year. We had a little get-together / talent show on zoom, this was one of the songs i worked on. Was made just for fun, but we got a lot of good comments about it!
Tracking (drums/synth) bass and one guitar part by me, vocals and other guitar by my good buddy Enzo.
/* edit */ totally forgot to mention i played bass on this

Renoise File Explorer Problem loading VST samples
Could someone please tell me why I cannot drag a sample from the file explorer into a sample based vst? I can do it if I run Renoise inside of a DAW and use it’s file explorer, but not from the Renoise file explorer itself. What gives? Am I missing something?

Switch focus in Ableton between Redux and computer keyboard midi not consistent
Hey there, I just got Redux to use within Ableton Live 11. I noticed that when you’re in editor view, Redux will use the Renoise style computer keyboard MIDI. I definitely prefer Renoise’s implementation of it, but when in Ableton, it’s hella confusing to not use the implementation that’s found across all other plugins. Is there a way to force Redux to use Ableton’s implementation of the computer keyboard Midi? (eg. A-L for white keys, some QWERTY for black keys, z/x for octave +/- vs. the entire keyboard). I noticed that Redux will obey Ableton’s implementation when editor view is off, or when the plugin window is closed/unfocused.
Thanks!

Drums-only version for one of my tracks
Was going back to older tracks and thought the drums sounded neat by themselves. All programmed using Steven Slate Drums (free version) and Renoise. I’m still working on mastering!

Edit Step Questions
A function to call
to skip lines in the pattern
(the number of set block jump lines)
relative from the current cursor
with internal boundary checking and skipping to the next pattern…
and a notification how to access this function (to add to ChordLord)?
Renoise.song().transport.jumpNextEditStep?

Vst3 doesn't load or when loaded crashes just after trying to launch
Hello.
I have problems with VST3 plugins on Win10 64bit PC. Some of them I can open external window first time just after setting it in plugin tab but after closing external window they work but I can’t get them visible. Also when I just hover over external window button renoise crashes without any error but if I don’t touch that plugin sound is still comming normally but I can control that plugin only through instr automation and so. Some of them work like in previous case, sometimes renoise crashes just after selecting plugin in a drop down menu and I believe in this case I had some error logs so there should be any log somewhere (I can’t find it in a renoise folder). In case when plugin is loaded as instrument when I close external window of plugin I can’t bring it back in this case renoise just shuts without any error. Any help would be appreciated. If you need any additional info or I should clarify something let me know. Thanks in a advance
Greg
found it Log.txt (1006.3 KB)
and to clarify things: I have 3 vst3 plugins:
LABS it is working without any problems,
HELM I can open it for the first time set sound and after that I cant bring back external window but it loads everytime I choose it in dropdown menu.
IRIS 2 this one sometimes can load up and after selecting sound it works but I cant bring that window but most of the time this one just crashes renoise without any window or error just after selecting it in dropdown menu .

Looking for a new handy fieldrecorder
Ey,
have some money to spend on a new handy little fieldrecording mic and am looking for some tips. I currently own the good old zoom H2 recorder;
…which still works, but I don’t like the time it takes from powering on to actually being able to record, I find it rather slow. Preferably the new mic has similar options, being able to plug in an external mic (like the soundman binaural type of mics) . Also are there any current recorders that use mobile phone-like rechargeable batteries instead of oldschool batteries?
Being relatively small & being able to quickly record after powering up are the biggest pro’s I’m looking for.
Anyone have experience with fieldrecorders, if so which type(s), can you post the amount of time it takes for ‘off to record’ ?

HeartBeatHero - Daft Punk Tribute
My favorite band of all time!!!
Daft Punk
Longtime publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed that the Parisian group has broken up and that the video represents their statement on the end of their nearly three-decade collaboration; at press time no reason was given for the split.

Discussion: Ableton 11 - What do you think about it?
Hi,
Ableton 11 was just published, and it looks to me like a very complete DAW. They basically added MPE support, but in a very detailed way, comping, and a lot of nice details. So there now are 16 macro parameters (is it possible that this will have an influence on Renoise, too?), harmonical stuff, the gui on 4k macos is fast as never before even with uneven scaling factors, and there are really good new dsp devices, for example a superb sounding reverb.
My 2 cents here: For me, these additions seem to make Ableton very complete. I already have Bitwig, but I was not so satisfied about the feature direction it went, not focussing on these general DAW features. Seems to me that Ableton does listen to the requests. Also the bundled Ableton dsp is extremely high quality. Bitwig, too, but still lacking of some elemental stuff (while the grid is a superb niche synth system of course).
The only thing I would miss in Ableton is the super fancy modulation system like in Bitwig. But with a bunch of workarounds and post-installation, you also can add meta signal LFOs to parameters and so on. Though the whole concept of Bitwig of course is way more smart and comfortable, focussing on a receiver-concept instead sender-concept. I barely have any long time experience with Ableton, so I don’t know about limitations.
What do you think about it? And if you already have Bitwig, is it still attractive to you?

I am an idiot , issue SOLVED!
I loaded an old instrument and for some reason it doesn’t play
I deleted all the contained samples and routings except one , still no luck
The first instrument is refusing to play any sound if I assign it to a certain output in the effects chain tab
The second one does ( same procedure )
what am I overlooking ??

Loop/Slice Markers In Wrong Position When Zooming On Long Sample
When zooming in on a very long sample, the loop/slice markers can often be displayed in the wrong position or even disappear from view entirely. The closer the marker is to the end of the waveform, the more severe the errors are. What’s bizarre is that the inaccuracy is present even when fully zoomed in at the level of individual samples.

'loop_end' Value Is Inconsistent With Similar Properties
The ‘renoise.song().instruments[].samples[].loop_end’ property is inconsistent with the ‘loop_start’ and ‘slice_markers’ properties. Those two have their values as the waveform sample value + 1, while ‘loop_end’ is just the value.

Font Changes 3.3.0+
Either I warped to a parallel universe overnight or something with Renoise has changed in terms of trying to change its default/pattern fonts. For about a good hour and a half, I’ve been rifling through the forums in the hopes that somebody posted something about it - nope. All of these threads are years old. I’m already aware of changing the files in the C:\Program Files\Renoise 3.3.0\Resources\Skin\Fonts directory, but then Renoise just doesn’t boot up when the “correct” changes are applied. Yes, I’ve put my intended .fon files in the same directory; yes, I’ve changed both Config.xml and PatternConfig.xml to redirect towards the .fon files; can anyone point me in the right direction?
Reason I’m doing this is because for the majority of my life, font customization in various trackers gives the daw a personal flair.

Tool Updater doesn't work
I have installed ChordLord 1.9.226
There is a new version in the Tools section
2.01.226
Also, the tool name (in the tools section) contains the version number. That should just be ChordLord.

Will v3.2.2 still work for me if v3.3.1 doesn't?
Hi there
I have Renoise v3.2.2 running on a Windows 7 PC. I want to try out v3.3.1 as I have a couple of VST3-only plugins. I also, however have a ton of doubled-up ones on my system, ie VST2 and VST3 versions of the same plugin, as when I purchased the plugins the installer prompted me to save both types.
I know when Renoise loads it scans for new plugins and obviously changes some internal setting so that it knows where to find these during future sessions. I see a few users have had problems with v3.3.1, with various VST3 plugins producing erratic behaviours and VST3s and VST2s clashing a bit. What I want to know is if I install and run v3.3.1, and find it doesn’t work so well for me, can I just go back to v3.2.2, or will the fact that I’ve run v3.3.1 mean Renoise v3.2.2 will now be confused as to where to locate plugins?
I can see older installations of Renoise on my machine, so I know it doesn’t delete them, but I just want to know if the older version is “unharmed” by any VST scanning that might take place in the new version.
And is there a release date for 3.3.2?
Thanks, everyone!

No undo with Synthedit VSTi's
No undo with Synthedit VSTi’s in Renoise 3.3.1
Build jan 11 2021
Decided to make a bugreport, since I really need that ctrl-z.
It is kinda essential for my workflow to try random things and undo them.
Steps to reproduce look like this:
Launch Renoise
Load any old synthedit VSTI (for example VstSpeek3 or Dream64. I’m talkin VSTI from around 2014 here).
Do any action, with any instrument in any part of Renoise. (for example cut/paste)
Hit ctrl-z
Expected results:
Action undone
Actual results:
Message ‘nothing to undo’
Action NOT undone
If needed I can make a video.
You know what is odd? It breaks Renoise everywhere.
I mean if it just broke any action related to the VSTI I could somehow grasp that.
It being code that is more than seven years old, developped with middleware dated back 2005.
But the rather odd thing is that once the VSTI is loaded, undo breaks on a global scale within Renoise,
from the sampler to the pattern editor.
And yes: I tried running Renoise as an admin, even tried compatability mode with Vista.
There are two threads related to this:

Simple parallel compression via instrument effect chains
heyo,
thought I’d share this even if it’s a bit simple…
easy parallel compression for kicks, snares, bass, what-have-you within the instrument editor
dial in your frequency ranges to taste, and feel free to further effect individual bands. really useful for pumping up percussion sounds and/or bass sound design
cheers

Crackling/Popping noises while watcing video on YouTube or using DAW
Hello everyone, I have this problem from 3 months since I bought my new desktop. The probem is; I’m having cracking/crackling/popping sounds/noises while watching videos on web or listening music with Spotify or playingback audio in my DAW (Studio One 5).
The crackles are getting much heavier and frequent while there is mouse activity (like moving the cursor around GUI on Youtube or adjusting plugins in my DAW)
Here is my system specs:
-
M-Audio M-Track Plus (MKII)
-
AMD Ryzen 2600X
-
Gigabyte B450M-H Motherboard
-
MSI RX470
-
16gb ram
-
500gb M2 SSD
I also should note that I don’t have any problem when I’m using the same USB audio interface with my 6 years old laptop. (Both Windows 10)
The problem is dissapearing when the M audio drivers are not installed. But I can’t use Studio One without it, so I’m also stucked there.
I tried to use Asio4All and FL Studio Asio but the latency is not workable in recording situations.
Here is the things I’ve tried so far:
-
Incrased the buffer size to maximum
-
Made sure sample rate is same everywhere (24 bit, 44100 Hz)
-
System power management %100 cpu
-
USB power save disabled
-
PCIe set to GEN3 in BIOS
-
C-State disabled in BIOS
-
CPU underclocked
-
Changed the GPU (it was gtx770 and now it’s RX470 and no change in crackles)
