Guide to Migrating a Renoise Install from Old to New Computer (Mac)
Hi Community,
Do we have a guide for migrating all our settings, templates, doofers, samples, plugins, etc from an old computer to a new one? I just installed Renoise on my new Mac and it’s all naked.
TIA

Duplex audio recording
Hi,
I’m having some trouble setting up for audio “Duplex” recording.
The initial bug is that the level “recorded sample gain” goes down to reduce the number of bits to 24 “in a 32 bit container/stream” . Upon resampling a sampled signal the signal gets progressively softer as a result of sampling 32 to 24. Setting the native sample container to 24 bits would resolve this. “I would have it at 24 bit int all the time”
Coming to the script section, would it be possible to write a script that grabs the master buffer, or assorted buffers. And puts them on the recording channel input. So you can realtime record your buffer without losing signal strength?

Is it possible to rebind controls on effects and devices? For example, can I make click+middle button up or down control the Q of a point in the EQ?
Sorry for the long title, but I’m interested in having my mouse control the Q of a point in the EQ, where currently if you click a point and scroll up or down on the mouse wheel it locks the point to the horizontal axis. Just like Ableton, if anyone’s use that EQ. I looked through the key bindings in renoise but didn’t see anything, is this possible?

Delete Unused Tracks Bug
Open attached file. Delete Unused Tracks will delete the Send Track. It shouldn’t.
Go to the next pattern where the Send Track is turned on, and it works, e.g. nothing will be deleted.

Using Hydrogen .drumkit files in Renoise?
I know a lot of Renoise users use Hydrogen’s drum sampler with Renoise, but is there any way (or reason to) open Hydrogen .drumkit files within Renoise? Seems like compatibility with this open file type would just open us up to another great source of high quality sample sets that we can use within Renoise’s excellent workflow UI.
Maybe I’m missing something? Is there an easy way to convert .drumkit to .xrni? I’ve seen some of these sound sets in .xrni but not others.

Spontaneous plugin incompatibility?
Howdy,
Alright, so this is a weird one. Just this last November I upgraded to 3.3.2, and up until very recently I had no problems whatsoever with it. Then about two days ago, while trying to boot up a track I’d been working on since then, I get this message for several Valhalla DSP plugins I had in my sends:
I know it’s not an issue with the plugins themselves, though, as they’ll even boot up in Audacity without any problems. Furthermore, even .component (AU) versions of these and other plugins fail to initialize, despite the directories being configured exactly how they should. In chronological order, I’ve tried to:
- Restart Renoise and perform manual scan
- Restart computer
- Manually edit plugin directories (and then revert them to default)
- Reinstall all Valhalla DSP plugins (.vst/.vst3/.component)
- Reinstall Renoise from freshly downloaded .tar file
- Manually delete all caches through preference folder, un- and reinstall Renoise from an even fresher .tar file
- Look through config.xml file (Renoise actually showed connectivity to the directories)
For added context, this is a 64-bit copy of Renoise I’m running on a MacBook with macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and an Intel i5. I’ve had Renoise on here in one iteration or another since 2017, and never had any major compatibility issues like this come up. As it stands right now, Renoise won’t initialize plugins of any kind, and most won’t even show up after a scan.
Thanks in advance!

Purchase an older version of Redux?
I’ve seen in other posts that if you buy Renoise you can access all older versions through backstage.
Does the same apply to Redux? Asking because I don’t see it on the archived releases page, and I’d like to download 1.1.4 which appears to be the last 32-bit version.
If I buy Redux will I be able to download a non-demo 32-bit version (without the hiss)?
Thanks!

Arguru Legacy Rareware up over at OldschoolDAW>>>
Had someone at warmplace request Aodix 4.2 skins which pushed me into posting a lionshare of the late Arguru’s coding projects…So have a look & grab one or all for safe keeping or ACTUAL USE…yes, YES, THAT would be impressive…

ReWire to Sync With Ableton (might need to reinstall Renoise)
Hi All,
I’m having issues trying to connect Renoise with Ableton Live 11 via ReWire. Ableton does not appear in the list of devices.
I am wondering if this is because I downloaded Ableton AFTER Renoise. In that case, I would need to uninstall/ reinstall Renoise or clear some cache or settings. Both of which I’m not sure how to do.
I also checked that both Ableton and Renoise are 64 bit
If anyone knows how I can fix Rewire OR uninstall/re-instal Renoise please let me know!

Investigating the Old Ones
I tried to make something fitting for detective work, but naturally it derailed into something more sinister. I swear I’m not cursed, but it happens waaay too often.

Faders moving slower
This is really odd: was /am using Renoise quite a lot and this was never obvious to me. Somehow the faders (e.g. volume faders in the mixer) are moving much slower than my mouse is moving normally. It seems that the movement is slowed down on purpose to better control the fader position.
I just tested Renoise 2.8.1 and there it’s different, i.e. the fader moves as fast as my mouse (without moving the fader). Actually I like this behavoiur more. I have my mouse set quite fast and the distance I have to move to go from volume 0 to max. volume is quite large (3-4 cm). Without holding the fader I have to move the mouse ~5 mm to travel the same distance.
This is on Ubuntu 20.04 and it’s the same in Redux.

Print Manual - Eco Ed 2022 - any plans to update the manual?
Too much screen time has destroyed my concentration so I’ve been getting paper manuals for my hardware printed locally and that has been a life saver, for me at least. However, I was quoted €61 to print the larger manual in colour and €29.40 (lol) in greyscale. Looking through the manual and fucking brilliant UI shots, I noticed that all graphics feature the dark UI, which of course, goes a long way to somewhat explain the extortionate costs being quoted to me.
I imagine that if a “light” UI made up the bulk of the graphics rather than the uber dark UI, the print costs would be less, thus the print use would be less, thus a “greener” manual and hopefully less rip off quotes being levied to me as being realistic.
Yet, even if the cost price were lower, ink use would still be high factoring in the dark UI, so my question is:
Are there any official plans to in house edit the present manual to factor for this?
And… does anyone else see any ecological sense to this?

Super-easy pseudo-FM/PM
Alright, after working with many others using varying forms of Renoise’s methods to “FM/PM/AM/etc.” modulate waveforms to get these sounds, I found a cheap-o, super-easy way (relatively) to get those metallic, robo-burpy/farty sounds with one Tool (Milky-Waves), two Operands, and an Instrument Macro. Here is the instrument file:
Pitch Operand.xrni (2.8 KB)
This is a very rudimentary tool, and we’re not getting ‘real’ modulation. Milky-Waves is doing the sound-legwork, and the Operands are doing the pitch adjustment. The Operands seem to do much more in the way of pitch-adjustment than say, an envelope (and I might be wrong here). Two Operands are making for some extreme pitch-shifting (or is it just straight up pitch adjustment? I do not know). I also added a Saw-wave and a filter to the instrument for a rounded sound.
Anyway, you can make some FM-ish piano sounds from this, but really, it’s more for buzzy/burpy/farty sounds - beeps and bloops, etc.
The Milky-Waves Tool outputs a ‘noise’ waveform (use the blue/purple waveforms), and it’s not really noise. Give it the maximum amount of “frequencies”, and it’s a very random waveform.
Watch the video here with it’s off-time audio, because it’s just a loop of the sound being played back and I don’t care.

Sonant 4K Synth System Win32 - Simple & Bizarre Synth Tracker>>>
This seems to follow the tracker paradigm rather than piano roll in operation…
Nice looking single synth sequencer for making 4K intros (or whatever else)…
The editor & sequencer are a clever-queer design for sure…
Here in GIF you see each vertical column is a track that has it’s own synth settings & the editor is where you put the notes-
You hit space to render a pattern, group of patterns or whole thing to listen so it’s not really ‘realtime’…
Clever idea from ‘Tune of a Different Drummer’…There is a manual that covers most aspects…Nice looking, nice sounding!
From here-
pouët.net Sonant by Youth Uprisingpouët.net - your online demoscene resource
Because of its ‘constriction’ & ‘simplicity’ it would make a good challenge tracker for a world of ‘Sonant Wars’!!..Don’t think so?..bummer…
NOTE- There are only 3 tunes inside but in the comments there is another so you can have 4 TOTAL to ‘Watch-N-Lern’ to create the next 4K HIT INTRO!! Yes, the world awaits your success with SONANT!!!

Protrekkr 2.6.2 Win32 RECENT & 2.5 Multi-Platform All Others>>>
Found this some days ago a WINDOZE ONLY update to Protrekkr 2.6.2…
GitHub Release Protrekkr v2.6.2 · hitchhikr/protrekkrSlight improvements and bug fix.
This was last month release…December of 2021…
So in an attempt to THINK I figger this is the ONLY OTHER present-day updated tracker OTHER THAN Renoise to have sprouted from the open-sourced Noisetrekker 2…
Nice to have a counterpart in the case of Protrekkr it has closely adhered to the Arguru concept just updating & improving the original idea like repainting, restoring an old cadillac to spit-polish shine with a toothbrush…
Very nice temptation for the sample-based workflow with built-in FX only (YAYhhhh!) to keep distractions away & GUI modernized for today’s screenz…
Tune here on MANWE’s Channel-
https://www.youtube.com/embed/rXXsZfvvgiI
For the Linux, Amiga OS4, AROS and Mac OSX Users the OTHER place is-
https://code.google.com/archive/p/protrekkr/
NOTE- The 2.6.2 includes all the modules & a manual…The 2.5s on the last link I mentioned do not have modules inside them so there is a separate modules DL you unZip into the Modules folder…
I am sure Arguru is smiling down on this one, but wait! He’s probably very busy on another concept-project!..He’ll be here to smile when it’s done!! Let us not forget…
A Protrekkr cluster-

Observing current played pattern number / seqpos / line
Hi,
could find that in the docs, how do I observe a change in current played pattern number, sequence position or even line? Or do I have to use an interval here?

Slow plugin loading (previously worked fine )
This has happened in the past but magically resolved itself , now it happened again.
Certain plugins ( Talmod ,Tal bassline , PLogue ops7 ) load extremely slowly , the gui of renoise is unresponsive when the plugin controls are tweaked.
Closing the plugin window casues the same issue , some plugins ( tall bassline 101 ) show a high activity in the windows cpu meter when the gui is shown .
I have no idea if this is a windows thing but Renoise is the only program affected by it .
