Possibly my last song of 2022, time for a month or so off…maybe. Unless inspiration strikes

Update Midi mapping to include more items
It would be great to be able to change a vst’s program preset via midi for macro knob configuration and, the ability to map knob encoders to edit waves.
(If this is already possible I may be just unsure of how to setup these actions).

Yeah, Renoise effects routing so powerful without need multi-out channel.
Free download. Please check it out if you need 80s flavor.

Make the music you want to hear
Don’t recreate / recycle what has been done. Be you. Make the music that makes the vibe you enjoy. People are so bandwaggony and in creative endeavours it inhibits progress to go down that route. Recreate the creativity, the passion, the unique vibe you want to share with others.

Hardware/Midi double octave notes bug
First off I’m using v 3.3.2… so perhaps this is known issue with older versions
Yesterday while using external hardware (workstation keyboard) I was playing notes live into the Renoise sequencer (rec mode) and it was duplicating single notes. For example, I’d play “C-402” and after input not only would that note get recorded but C-502 was next to it… all velocity values for both note would end up identical. Very weird behavior…I tried it it on some other channels, same thing… persisted.
The set up was just a workstation in sequencer mode (different instruments assigned to their individual channels) So in renoise I was just using the MIDI tab and creating different channels for each instrument on separate tracks … this worked at first but then it started generating not only a duplicate but a octave higher duplicate… super strange!
I finally closed the session/terminated and started fresh and the issue didn’t come back (knock on wood)… question is? what was going on and is there some strange setting I set my mistake? or known bug?
I can only imagine how much work would be lost if it happened mid session…
I may try to replicate the session and issue today and see if happens again but either way, anyone else have this happen before?
Oh and in addition, this is was midi over usb not 5 pin DIN connectors.

I have tricked Renoise
Hello, Dear friends
A lot of Renoise users, or at least me, struggled for a long time of an issue that we can not send signals from sidechainers or followers to previous channels.
I have solved that issue by making the previous channel a Next one.
The steps:
1. Send the whole signal of your (Previous) current channel to an empty Send channel *with a Muted Source.
2. Apply the effects that you want to automate or manipulate only to the Send output.
3. Now from any (Previous) or (Next) channel you can send a sidechain signal or even a signal follower to the Send output, because it became the last one on the list (The most next one)
exp:
The red line is a signal out to an empty send channel using SEND
The blue line is the sent signal from a Next channel to a Previous one (That can not be applied by standard) going directly to the send output of the Previous channel.
The yellow line is a standard signal from signal follower (Previous) to a Next channel.
By adding or duplicating outputs into SENDS, you can send any signal from sidechaine or signal follower both directions.
Hooray

could this be routed somehow to an ext midi instrument?

Song-independent Hardware Output Monitoring FX? (à la REAPER)
I’m sure that this has been brought up before and apologies for most likely creating a duplicate topic, but across three different search engines I cannot for the life of me locate anyone else talking about this. If you’re a REAPER power user reading this you’ll probably understand what I mean by “Monitor FX.” If not, here’s a quote from the user guide:
To open the FX: Monitoring window use the View, Monitoring FX command from the main menu, or hold
Shift while clicking the FX button of the Master track. You can specify any FX that you want to put on your
hardware outputs. These do not show up in renders, do not affect the metronome and are not stored in the
project file. You might use this feature, for example, to run analysis FX, or to compensate for the acoustic
characteristics of a particular room.
This is, as it happens, exactly what I use this feature for in REAPER - I have my collection of pet analyzers as well as a room correction VST and a post-render gain adjustment. I have not found a way to achieve the same setup in ReNoise, short of using it as a ReWire slave to REAPER (or using the dreaded Windows audio drivers). The room correction FX is actually a big deal-breaker for using ReWire standalone, because it applies a -12.5 dB gain adjustment to avoid output clipping, meaning anything that doesn’t have this VST on its output is quite loud.
tl;dr: My question is this: Can I create an effect chain in ReNoise that A) does not get included in renders, and B) saves to my user preferences and not to any particular song?

Smooth curves in sample editor
Hi,
I have an idea in my head again,
but I ran into a problem that I can’t seem to deal with now,
and that is the emerging artifacts in the sample.
It is clear to me how the curves work and that there is only one “Y” for each “X” in the buffer
and that I am converting 2D to 1D,
but even when I try to convert the position in the buffer to a whole number myself, the values still skip.
Where is the mistake? In the rounding itself?
I can’t figure out how to smooth that curve
Any constructive ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
cz.martblek.Curves.xrnx (2.1 KB)
BTW:
Only 2 rows of controls work,
Next should have been vectors, but if rendering doesn’t work, I didn’t even implement it.

Chaining instruments so that their EQ range does not clash
Forgive me for my lack of exact terminology of what I am talking about.
I want to use the function that causes instruments or plugins to be chained to one another in such a way that causes the instruments to not interfere with one another when it comes to dominating the mix or clashing or causing clipping.
This could be phrased like ‘Instrument A has lower priority in the available Dynamic space than instrument B’. Alternatively, ‘If dynamic space is occupied by Instrument A, then Instrument B triggers at much lower volume’ or similar. I know this is a relatively common function in mastering/sound production, but I do not know how to do it in Renoise, or even what it is called exactly.
Does anyone have a comment to point me in the right direction to achieve this in Renoise?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

I made a 303 clone - inspired by the recent Zensphere video
303 Clone-ish.xrni (9.7 KB)
8 Macro’s controlling kinda the usual 303 stuff.
Responds well to the “Fold” distortion as well IMO.
Keen to see how people can improve it.
Can change to square by changing the square sample volume to 0dB and the saw to -inf.

Shit quality video taken off my phone of it playing. Velocities over 60 should trigger Accents and slides work in editor with Uxx and Dxx commands.

VST Plugin detach on Linux/ all OS?
so i cant edit sequences or edit something in EDIT-Tab, while a VST is open on a second monitor?
so i was try to use a instrument-automation-FX to modulate a vst-parameter but all parameters a cluttered…
to define a parameter i need t open the Plugin itself, but then i cant open the Edit-Tab,
where the Automation-FX is inside.
So i stuck here
its similar to “how to assign a macro to a vst parameter”

Gratitude... and that's right!
I want to express my gratitude to everybody making tutorial videos, making posts and leaving xrn files in the forums.
I’ve been using renoise since 2017 and the level of sophistication that I’m operating at has leaped forward in the past few months - all thanks to the effort these people are putting back into this community.
Thank you!!

Tracker-like video editing software?
Does this exist?
I’m interested in video editing software for extremely fast and repetitive edits in music videos. A tracker program would be awesome for this, it seems to me. Has anyone heard of anything like this? Maybe a plugin for Adobe Premiere or something?
