Optional merge in Effects list (Native, VST, VST3, and so on)
Hi, now that Renoise also supports VST3 I’m starting to find it hard to navigate in my ever-growing plugin effects list, since I like to use custom categories like «Compressors», «Delays», etc - and now some are located under Native, some under VST, some under VST3, AU, and so on.
Would it be an idea to make this type of automatic separation optional in Preferences? I’d love if for example ALL my reverbs (even Native ones), could be simply sorted under 1 group, instead of spread over 3-4 groups as it is now.
And if merge is enabled, perhaps format (native, vst, vst3 etc) could be indicated by a small icon on the same line instead.

Hey there. I just used the sampler to sing something in Renoise. Drums are the Cakewalk-Drums, Bass is from cakewalk, too. Vocals recorded and mixed in Renoise.

Smarter Human/Random-ize For Effect Command Values
The current version of the Human/Random-ize features are pretty ‘dumb’ when applied to effect command values and it would be better if they took a few things into account when making changes. Note that everything below applies to the effect columns, while the Vol/Pan column variants cannot be Human/Random-ized at all.
The C, Q and R commands don’t have their values changed, presumably because only they depend on the Ticks Per Line value. Instead, the Human/Random-ize process could detect the current TPL and make changes within the available range. It doesn’t matter if the TPL is changed later on, since any values above it just use the maximum anyway.
Randomize forces the second value to be 0 (this also happens for Vol/Pan/Dly values). In addition to not being maximally random, this also causes severe problems for many effect commands:
-
A, V, T, C, N and R use their two values separately (xy), so always setting y to 0 means you’ll always be playing the same variant.
-
S, Z, X and J target specific things and most of the time only the second value is actually useful, so always setting it to 0 renders these commands worthless.
-
B, ZG and x00y (turn effect on/off) are toggles so they’ll always be doing the same thing unless a 00 value randomly turns up. The value range should be restricted to 00/01.
- Before processing - 2. Humanized - 3. Randomized

No internet connection via plugin in Renoise 3.4.2
Hi, just tried to activate my license for Baby Audio’s new IHNY-2 plugin in Renoise 3.4.2 on Win7, but the plugin fails to detect my internet connection (required for activation). I made sure to allow Renoise through my firewall, is there anything else I could try? Also sent a support ticket to Baby Audio, but not sure where the problem lies yet.
On my mac I had no issues activating it.

Ambient workflows?
Am new to Renoise and am on demo, saving up for a license. Interested in making ambient music. Still have to learn and develop proficiency with Renoise. Could someone, singular or plural, share some ambient music workflows? I saw one Youtube video which is nice, but feel there perhaps are many ways to make ambient. Tips and tricks are welcome. Do not have sample packs, but have no objection to making my own or using what Renoise gives.

Disk browser can't see folders/files in external HD
I can click on my external hard drive as a volume in the disk browser, but it doesn’t recognize that there are any folders or files in there. I have all of my samples in various folders on there, can’t access any of them. Anyone know what’s going on here? Thanks!

Live automation
Just trying to understand how automation is supposed to work…
I see that you can right click any slider to create automation. What this seems to do is write the current value of the slider to the current selected step in the fx column.
Is it possible to take this to the next logical step and record movement “live” so that the values get recorded into the fx column on the fly as I move the slider during live recording? I’ve tried this, but it doesn’t work as expected.
Am I going about it the wrong way?

Timestretching? Rubberbandaid?
Hello… So it looks like there’s no native timestretching in renoise - am I right?
I started playing around with the “bangy bangy” drum loops and found they don’t time up very nicely!
I found rubberbandaid and installed it, but now I feel like a total dumbo because I can’t actually figure out how to access it…
Went to to tools > tool browser and there it is… great, but how do I open it??

Dumb newbie questions
Hello! Another day, another forum… nice to be here
So… I’m taking my first faltering steps with renoise - can you believe I hadn’t heard of trackers until two days ago?!
I hope nobody minds, but I’d like to ask some dumb newbie questions for a while so I can get my bearings, yes - I am reading the manual, but it’s also helpful to be able to ask when I think WTF?
So-- first question, having randomly banged in some notes via the keyboard on a few tracks, why does one of the tracks have an extra notes column? It’s wider than the rest… and it bothers me!

Current track - alias - why is not working?
I have no problem to route multi-output instrument (like SampleTank for example) to different tracks using aliases. Problem is that there is option “Current track” that, I assume, supposed to work like output to actual track. But it doesn’t work that way. It outputs to the same track as used in first instance. For me “Current Track” means that it should play on track where instrument (alias) was used. Or am I wrong?
I’m not asking how it works, I see how it works. I’m asking about why “current track” doesn’t mean current track. All I should need is to set midi channel, but I must setup specific track to made it output proper.

Can I trigger Instrument volume envelope somehow?
Hello Guys. Wanted to simulate side chain action, playing with the volume envelope in modulation/volume/envelope so that every time I want to lower the bass to make room for the kick I just type a command next to kick, I see a post here from 07 talking about this but I cant google up any solution, any tips or workaround to do this

Can a custom tool provide automation parameters?
I have a Korg Volca FM, and assorted parameters can be set/changed via CC messages. I’ve been using the “Instr MIDI Control” device for this. I like that I can have various values set up at the start of a song using fx automation.
The problem, though, is that the MIDI control device uses sliders that are all fixed to a displayed range of 0 to 127. Many of the Volca parameters have a displayed value of a smaller range even though they expect a value in the range of 0 to 127. For example, to set the patch algorithm to 20, I need to send a value of (I think) in the range 80 to 84.
Rather than have to do the math for these things I thought I could write a tool to manage this: display controls with the same range as shown on the Volca, but map the input to the expected CC value. (E.g. show a slider that goes from 1 to 32, but have the tool map that value to the range of 1 to 127 when sending the CC.)
(I thought of using a Doofer but as best I can tell there is no way to get a Doofer to do that range mapping.)
If I write such a tool, is there a way to have it’s controls and parameters available for automation? I.e., right-click on a control and have the value stored as an effects automation?
I’m thinking no, because it’s a tool not a device, but maybe someone knows of a way to pull this off.

Record labels, music releases and A&R
Hi,
Is anyone familiar with record labels or music releases in general?
I’m asking because I’ve been contacted for signing a contract with a record label again (I think it’s the 5th time know) and I should deliver “unsigned songs” (whatever that means) to a specific email, but I don’t know what to think about this. It seems suspicious to me, like always when someone “from the internet” wants something from me without spitting some details. The guy is talking about “A&R” and I would be contacted after the delivery of the song/s. Does anyone here know anything about “A&R”? All I know is “A&R FAX Records” from back in the 90s which is another label which wanted to sign me back in the 90s. But “A&R” seems to be something different. It seems that it’s not a label but a kind of “contact person” to get in contact with several labels. Is that right? Does “A&R” stand for “artists and repertoire”? Does anyone here have any experience with it?
Thanks in advance.

Something a little irritable about Renoise
Hello, Dear friends.
Recently, while working on various tracks in Renoise, I became very often annoyed by the factor that I cannot send a signal through a device (Sidechaine, Follower…etc) to the Previous channels. Beside, i can not send signals from Follower to the current channel’s Mixer. Why does such a thing exist in Renoise?. And is there any hope that this obstacle will be removed in future versions? I really want to send signals from any channel to any. And I also want to group Send channels under different groups, like regular tracks.

Midi conflict on in and out
So i’m using keystep pro, wherefrom i control different synths via midi (and cv/gate). From renoise, synths are triggered via keystep.
The conflict (wich i assume it is) i’m having is that when i record notes (via keystep), into renoise, one single note-trig results in several octaves of the same notes,
Like this:
I’m avoiding this with setting the out ch to other than 3. Notes records in renoise but doesn’t trigger when song being played. Yes i must change back to ch 3 on out, but rather not.
Solutiion, anyoone?
