DreamStation 1...Capable in Sonic Ability Then...and NOW!
Coming out when ReBirth was climaxing in the late 90’s this would’ve been my choice OVER ReBirth by far & at a savings as well…
The built-in DreamStation Synth was quite phenomenal for the time & still sounds good now…NOW!! It has always garnered high praise & ratings at KVR-
web.archive.org KVR: Audio Simulation DreamStation - Virtual InstrumentKVR Audio Plugin Resources, news and information about open standard audio plugins (virtual instruments and virtual effects) - VST, VSTi, DirectX, DXi, AudioUnits, AU, LADSPA, etc.
Soon after licensed to Cakewalk for a time then after that released as a freeware DXi plugin by Audio Simulation what in 2008 or something…
I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT SOUNDED BEST IN THE TRACKER!!..conspiracy perhaps…
Doing a fair business back in 1999-2001 selling at $89.00 there was plenty of talk about DreamStation II…But…BUTT!!..It would not happen till late 2007!!..By that time everybody went everywhere else…
Even today with all the ReBirth nostalgia going on I always suggest DreamStation I as a much better alternative sonically & visually as ReBirth easy enough to make a BWomp-BWomp-BWomp-BWomp-BWomp-BWomp tune but a complex one you gotta take NOTES on what you are doin’ on what patterns as there is no tracker view whereby you can see a range of notes being triggered on numerous tracks…Uhhh, BETTER!!
Nowadays the higher rez screenz make the tracker ‘smaller’ so harder to see pattern info…ReRezing screen a pain & make other stuff not work right. I use a magnifier called FatBits to project a view window of where I am working-
The DreamStation I page on the wayback is here (Jan 2001)-

DS1 has been freeware for many years available in couple spots a direct DL-
Only real gripe I have is the limited function pattern editor, which is setup a bit different…For me I rather use the automation rather than pattern commands as such…Most the demo tunes use the synth for all instruments except for imported drum WAVs…With a few exceptions…
RECOMMENDED!!**

Free (?) WAV/SF2 to XRNI Converter?
Hi Everyone,
I know this has been discussed over the years, but is there an easy and preferably free way to convert WAV and/or SF2 files to XRNI?
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Loading a color profile will reset track color alpha
- Save current color profile
- Setup a track color, then set alpha to 0
- Load profile

Jaytrax 2.2 - Oldtime 'Tune of a Different Drummer' Tracker Mini-Style
Played with this awhile back, having another look…I rather like these small trackers that are not much bigger than a screenmate (IE - H8 Tracker)…This way when doing mundane tracker tasks you can also be perhaps watching something else…
All Tabs GIF (actual size)-
Has internal wavedraw synth setup plus your own WAVs and such. Commercial product till 2004-2005 where it went free at version 2.2…
Some of the demo tunes pretty good considering the age…One could do much better in it nowadays with increased quality (SIZE) samples & then post-process the final output in just about anything to ENHANCE…
Though looking simple there is more depth than one would think…
GET HERE-
https://files.scene.org/view/resources/music/trackers/jaytrax_free_version.zip
Be sure to turn on ‘poly keyboard’ in options…
Had a bit of fun making waveforms type synth sounds…
Most impressed with a guy on YT who made a bunch of tunes 20 years ago in it using grooveboxes as utilities like Sonic Syndicates TS404 & Bram Bros Hammerhead!!..Now THAT’s using resourcefulness & workarounds!!
So bear with me…This guy KNOWS MUSIC & has a nice genre mix that is not simplistic (I hear Maj7ths, Minor7ths, suspended & numerous other compound chords) Is refreshing difference from other tracker styles & all done in Jaytrax 21 years ago…

Columns graphical representation
Why doesn’t Renoise have a more graphical view of effect columns? It would be more usability friendly for newcomers or old eyes, time-efficient and intuitive to edit or inspect.
Other trackers are already looking that direction, it’s 2022 not 1992 and computers are capable to represent information in other ways than just numbers.

Issues with Arturia Pigments 3 VST GUI Elements
Hello, having this weird issue with the Arturia Pigments VSTi. When closing/reopening the editor window or rendering a sample from the pattern editor (ctrl + r) causes the editor gui to lose some elements. This will always cause the waveform view the disappear:
Other instances I have lost the ability to move sliders or even bring up the menu to load new engines. I have disabled the auto scale function and the issue still persists and this has occurred on (2) separate windows laptops I have. Anyone have this issue or know of a potential fix?

Moonfish 1.2...Strangest, Bizarre Tracker But Perhaps Perfect Challenge Tracker?
Rediscovered this odd Gem from Bram Bros 1999-
Designed partly as a joke with ‘built-in’ limitations…
From a HitSquad Interview in 2000-
**Q. What happened to The Moonfish project?
It didn’t seem to capture the public imagination as successfully as Hammerhead.**
It was never intended to be a serious project. Actually I was already developing Tuareg when I made Moonfish. It started out as a joke. Someone on a mailinglist mentioned he still thought it was a challenge to create songs on his old 4-channel Amiga tracker. Everyone laughed at him, but actually it made me think: “why not try to create a tool that has ridiculously silly limitations, but is still fun to use?” That seemed like a challenge to me and that’s the idea that became Moonfish. MoFi was made in less than a week and that shows. Still I think it was a cool joke. And apparently some weirdos in the world do cool stuff with it…
He also apparently created it to have the ability to go 1230 BPMs from an email from somebody named ‘ZAP’ that was supposed to have been talking about 230 BPMs but must’ve hit the 1+2 to end up with 1230 BPM…So Moonfish was then designed to attain 1230 BPM…Part of the joke…
Looks to be a great contender for a Challenge Tracker…I certainly am gonna ‘tune it’ as I have never heard anything done in it…

Piano Roll for renoise 4
Hi, is it true that Renoise 4 will get a native piano roll?

Why is renoise so aggresive with file associations on linux?
Renoise attaches itself to every file type as far as I can tell. Can this be changed? There are open so many files that need to open renoise surely.

How to Enter In Notes
I really like the Renoise tracker format but after an hour of scouring the manual, I can’t seem to figure out how to enter the notes into the pattern editor. I can get into edit mode through the “ESC” key. The keyboard acts as a piano keyboard, which I hate! How can I just enter in “C2 90…” with the normal computer keyboard characters?
I apologize if this is a common problem. I looked through the manual and just couldn’t find how to keyboard characters vs keyboard notes.

VST (not found)
Recently my waves plugins crashed renoise again.I reinstalled and got some working and ditched some others.I have one problem, a big project im working on makes extensive use of the waves L1 limiter.I have got this plugin working again however when i open the song, renoise cannot find the L1 plugins, even though i can load new instances in fine. This particular song has 30 or more instances of L1 in it.I need to find a way of pointing renoise back to it so it will load the plugins with all the settings and stuff i had dialed in.Is there any way to do this?

Lockdown re-worked; your thoughts please
Re-working of a tune I laid the foundations for during UK lockdown. Mid-paced EDM/electronica with some old samples, swirling pads and keyboard stabs. Penny for your thoughts…

[Tool Idea] Merging patterns using the loop function (pattern editor)
Hi all,
lately, while editing in the pattern editor, I often use the loop function in order to create new rhythms and variations. My idea was to make a shortcut that would allow to copy a selection and paste it directly in the next pattern block (or cell), to make it a cumulative cell of a variety of selection made below.
Originally, I first thought developing a full sequencer, that would allow to re-arrange patterns using this loop function, extended to all tracks, all steps in the sequencer (more of a global re-arrangement tool). While this idea is complicated to achieve for me, because I need more time to learn about scripting; I thought making it simpler, and so, a shortcut.
I wanted first of all, to know if any tool has been made with this idea before.
greetings

Control attack and decay through pattern effect commands?
Hi everybody!
Couldn’t figure this one out, is there a way to control adsr values through pattern effect comands? Or would this be a task for automation?

Additional VST(i) folders
I wonder if it would be possible adding the possibility of adding more than just 2 VST plugin folder paths,
since it would improve VST(i) management a lot.
For example:
Some Vst(i) need a registration, some dont’. so that’s why I’m distributing them to different folders.
That makes it easier finding them after p.e. reinstalling my OS.
Or maybe I just want to test some plugins, unsure if I’m going to keep them. So Im using an extra folder for these.
Unfortunately some plugins insist in getting installed on the system partion (like in the “Steinberg/vst” folder), and soley because of that one of the currently 2 paths is reserved for them.
I really try to avoid installing non-essential programs on “c:” so it would be great if there was the opportunity of adding 2-3 more paths leading to different plugin folders

Recording midi sequence from a vst plugin to a track?
hi. So i have a vst plugin generating midi sequence and sending it to another plugin, which works fine. BUT, for some reason i can not record this sequence to a track…I mean, i get the concept of tracks and instruments being independent, so it looks like two plugins communicate with each other directly, but how do i get to record a midi output of the instrument to a track? I’'m using plugin midi routing option to choose which instrument to send the sequence to…

Note Trigger With Arrow Key
It’d be nice if while moving though the Edit notes there was an option to have the notes be triggered and played when the selector block highlighted them. I think it’d be useful.

Redux / Reaper - phrase not triggered
I’m just testing Redux in Reaper and when starting the playback directly at the beginning of the note that should trigger a phrase in Redux it will not work. I have to start the playback a little bit before and only then the phrase is triggered. That’s not the case in Bitwig or Renoise.
I monitored the midi events and it is fine, but Redux is not seeing it somehow. Did anyone else observe that?
