Hey, everyone.

I have a question regarding how Renoise handles its window detachment.

Here’s the thing: I use Power Toys to enhance my Windows experience. One of the most useful features is Fancy Zones, which allows me to me rearrange windows in consistent ways.

On the other hand, this is how I use Renoise, with a 2 monitor setup and detached windows:

As you can see, I manually detach and resize Renoise windows side by side.
The downside: they keep floating over other applications, resulting in plugin windows getting hidden sometimes:

Trying to divide the screen using fancy zones doesn’t work, unfortunately, because the windows do not attach to the zones (which can be seen behind, the two transparent squares)

And trying to use Always On Top on plugin windows so they don’t get hidden doesn’t work either…

Is there any way to make Renoise compatible with this? I honestly don’t think it’s possible, but just wanted to check…

New Mac user here with the extended Apple keyboard, the one with the number pad.

I’ve managed to get most key commands that seem to be ‘reserved’ by the OS available in Renoise via a combination of disabling them in the OS settings and via Terminal (in the case of ‘option+f14’ and ‘option+f15’) but I can’t figure these last two out. Neither of them seem to do anything obvious when used outside of Renoise either, which kind of makes it harder to Google for.

Obviously missing two key commands isn’t massively crucial, it’s more annoying me than anything else . Just wondering if anyone else has tried and succeeded?

I’ve get a lot of gui crashs when using ctrl-c /ctrl v command inside plugdata as an fx
I am copying data from a liist to a message
For that I click on a list ( to select it ) , press ctr-c , then ctrl-e to unlock the,panel , then ctr-v into a message to paste
Renoise most often crashes during this process

Hi forum,

I’d really like to try out Renoise!

However, the size of the numbers/font is incredibly small. When I select “zoom”, and measure the size of e.g. “00” in the tracks column, it’s 1 (one!) mm high on my macbook air screen! I have a 23" screen, which increases the height to a little less than 2 mm. The text size is even smaller. WHY can’t I have Renoise zoom the size to say 5mm?

In the way, the four eyed people could use Renoise more than 5 minutes a day

2. Symlink
   Win
   mklink /D "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\Renoise\User Library" "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Music\User Library"
   Mac
   ln -s ~/Music/User\ Library ~/Documents/Renoise/User\ Library
3. Set location in Ableton
   
   The original location /Music/Ableton/User Library remains if you need to transfer samples etc as only the structure is replicated, gather what you need and and delete it afterwards

The resulting file structure is very interesting and useful as they have no folders with same name, like they were made for each other!

I made a livecoding environment to manipulate/transform pattern data, and realized what a nice environment this is. (code snippets are cooler than a GUI with modular routing imo)

Can we make a live coding environment to make “synth patches” that generate synth instruments (xrni and only samples)? Preferably in a way that can generate a synth patch in one single statement, and then output+keymap to instruments.

I have a grasp of simple subtractive synthesis (osc+filter) as well as additive synthesis, but have of lately seen more exotic synthesis on this forum.

Maybe it’s time for a general framework that provide basic generators that people can modulate and blend creatively? What do you think?

I can take care of the housekeeping+sandboxing+gui, but the general syntax and statements need to be carefully considered.

(For this to take off, I think it has to be more than a one man show.)

Hi,
another phenomenon that I couldn’t solve yet is a weird kinda distorted sound if a bass heavy sample like a kick is playing for the first time after a tiny break of about a second. Have a look:

It’s the very same sample, so it should be the exact same sound everytime it plays, but this isn’t the case.
What could cause this and how can this be avoided? Is this a bug or did I miss something?

Whenever I create an AHDSR envelope for, say volume modulation on my sample, the init patch starts with 100 ms of attack and sustain at 50%. These are settings I change to 0 ms and 100% nearly all the time, adjusting after when I need to. Is there a way to set a new default for how these curves are showed when I first load the modulation? This would be a huge time saver for me.

In Renoise 3.4.4 all the values and sliders (volume, panning) that are shown in the mixer tab are displayed incorrectly. In contrary to the mixer device in the track effect chain the sliders don’t move and all the values remain 0 respectively “Center” in case of panning.

In Renoise 3.4.3 everything works as expected.

Old and new xrns files are affected. Out of curiosity I also restarted my computer, no difference. Strangely I never noticed this behavior before. Am I the only one on Windows 10 who’s facing this?

Hi all, new Renoise user here.
Long story short (I will post an introduction somewhere in the near future), I’m using Renoise to revive my old band Tribal Rage.

I’m using Odin 3 as a guitar VST and our old songs were written in Impulse Tracker nearly a quarter century ago.
They load just fine and I can alter them perfectly.

However I’m running into an issue now, I have a drum kit made of .xrni instruments, and they total up to 1GB for the entire drum kit.

It would be really nice to have an optional way of loading instruments by reference instead of embedding them into the song. This way all our songs can point to the same .xrni instruments since every song will now consist of the entire drum kit and will be over 1GB when saving, while the instruments remain exactly the same.

Additionally, this would also provide the option of editing the .xrni and it will be reflected in all songs that use it.

Yes, I’m aware that trackers embed samples since the old .MOD days and that not having embedded samples can give problems. However, the same goes for VST’s which I’m sure everyone uses in their songs.

In my daily life, I’m a software engineer (C/C++) and I had a look at the renoise song format which made me wonder, how difficult would it be to provide an option in the instrument XML?
Such as

-Instrument>
-Disk Reference>path_to_instrument.xrni</Disk Reference>
-/Instrument>
