Mouse disappearing from Renoise interface when opening certain plugins
Idk if there are any other plugins affected.
Win 10.
Renoise 3.2.2
In previous versions no such issue.
Disabling new GUI auto-scale option doesnt fix the problem.

Recording MIDI notes to pattern editor from VST arpeggiator
Hello,
There’s a great VST plugin called BlueARP which allows designing note sequences that can be played by other VST instruments when BlueARP is set to route its MIDI data for the other VST instruments. With a regular MIDI keyboard, it is possible to record note data directly inside Renoise’s pattern editor. In a similar fashion, is there a way to record MIDI data from BlueARP directly to Renoise’s pattern editor?
BlueARP is great for prototyping cool note sequences, but trying to organize a complete song consisting of many sequences created with BlueARP is very clumsy. I think it would be much more pleasant to design the sequences with BlueARP, record them to Renoise’s pattern editor as direct MIDI data and then use the recorded notes to control VST instruments.

Render to phrase not working for 175 bpm?
Hi I’m using render slices to phrase option, to chop up an amen break.
I’m following the steps in the tutorial.
here is the thing, when I chop amen breaks at 145 bpm and 167 bpm, render slice to phrase works perfect.
But as soon as I follow the same steps at 175 bpm the phrase it generates is all messed up,
Not sure whats happening it seems to be pitching everything up an octave. No idea why it’s doing this. Anyone encountered this issue before?
I’m using 175bpm at 8 LPB. The only thing I can think of is that the amen breaks are twice the lenght of the the slower loop…
Presuming I’m missing something really obvious, making silly beginner mistakes etc.
Also noticed if I half my bpm to 72.5 it sounds nearly correct.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Here is what the 175 phrase looks like
I have also added an image of how it is mapped
The more I look into it, it seems like renoise is pitching the loop up an octave for some reason.
Totally baffled…

Rotating pattern blocks
Hey dudes, had a cool idea last night that I think some of you may like. The basic idea is that when you hover over a block in the pattern matrix there would be an option to rotate the whole pattern by a certain number of lines either backwards or forwrds, this could be set in song options (number of lines of rotation) and depending on if you click and the drag the block from the top or bottom, this would determine direction. I believe this tool would give rise to a lot of unusual rhythms and song structures. It kind of turns the matrix blocks into like a rotating abacus or something similar

Re-edits and Bootlegs for DJing
Hi all,
after a long abscence to Renoise I again came back to this wonderful tool.
I would like to make Re-Edits and Bootlegs from some songs that I can use in my DJ-sets.
The Sample Page is a mighty tool and I wanted to ask for some hints on best workflows or Videotutorials for this kind of work (Sampler and Sample Slicer).
F.e. do you use Renoise to chop-up (cut-up) a whole song into different samples or is there another software better suited.
Are ther some MUST-HAVE plugins for this kind of use?
Thanks for your help

Changing MIDI Channel in Editor FX Column
Hi Friends!
I was trying to understand whether it would be possible to use a Renoise instrument sending out MIDI to control other stuff and change MIDI OUT channel for the same Renoise instrument by typing in commands in the Editor…
… I’ve been looking for olders posts about this subject and I couldn’t find anything (but maybe it’s my own fault).
I see I could be creating a different instrument for each different channel, but I wanted to make sure this was the only solution.
Thank you in advance!

Redux: audio inputs
As the title says, allowing audio inputs on redux would allow reusing Redux Fx, doofers, etc. It could be implemented as a sample on the waveform or as a whole instance thing.
Extra points if patterns (phrases), that ignore notes and commands, were available for envelopes, pan and filtering. Then it could come pretty near replacing CamelSpace.
PS: I cram this here, but what stops me using Redux as my only sampler is that velocity can’t modulate the sample start point. This is a 101 feature on a sampler IMO. It limits its usage as drum sampler.

Certain GUI widgets not loading until mouseover on macOS Big Sur
Hi,
Renoise is not loading popup GUI widgets, such as menus and tooltips, but instead shows them as flat light gray until I hover mouse over them. I started getting this issue fairly recently – I am not 100% exactly when, because I initially expected this to be just a temporary glitch that would disappear. I’m fairly certain it appeared only after I decided to update macOS to Big Sur beta.
A more detailed description: When I open any pulldown menu, it is initially shown as flat light gray. Then, when I move the mouse over the menu, it gets rendered correctly. However, if I open a submenu, then that is blank until I hover over that, too.
In addition to the menus, this also affects all tooltips and things like the Preferences window, Tool Browser and Scripting Editor. After the cursor has been over the widget, the widget stays visible even after the mouse is moved elsewhere, but if the menu is closed, when it is reopened it is blank again.
GUI preferences (“GUI effects & animations”, “Enable Retina HiDPI display support” and others) don’t seem to affect this. Furthermore, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Renoise, but that didn’t help either.
I am on macOS Big Sur 11.0 Beta (20A5374i) and Renoise 3.2.2. Is this a known issue? Has anyone encountered something similar? Is there anything I can do?
Thanks!

How do you blend sampled vst waves once they are loaded in Renoise?
I primarily use Dexed and samples for all my sound design, but when I use the plug-in grabber a very noticeable shift of harmonic content and amplitude occurs between one octave and the next (Dexed also produces timing dependent of pitch) How do you smoothly blend the different registers in Sampler?
I currently fix this problem slightly by using a keytracker and an inverse keytracker from C2 to C9 (2 modulation sets), but this only works between two samples.

Mostly all of the guitars came from my Fender Duo-Sonic HS recorded w/ line in into renoise 3.2.2 and processed & mixed from therein with dsp & vst. The vocals were produced this way too
Also big shoutout to the android apps 7pad and chordbot for helping me along the songwriting process

Keyzone cycle/random groups
I have an addition/upgrade to the keyzones and cycle/random and layering behavior in mind. I came to this while building an electric guitar with feedback that is faked with sine samples that need to play in parallel to the guitar samples, and be faded in and out, while I would have wanted the guitar samples be cycling through variations… Oops! I cannot do that in renoise it seems…
I would like to set cycle and random mode not for the whole instrument, but per sample, and assign them to groups that would still sound in parallel. I.e. each sample would either be in no group, or be assigned to a group.
There could be for compatibility reasons a base group that behaves like the old behaviour globally, and that applies for samples with no group, or it could cycle through the groups. Then there could be chosen other groups and have all/random/cycle assignable to them. When the main mode is set to random/cycle and there are groups, renoise could cycle through the groups with that behaviour, or just cycle through the samples that are in no group while running the groups in parallel.
Example: Having 4 samples along full key/vel range, two each in a group, both groups set to cycle mode. There would always 2 samples play, that are being chosen within the groups, where they overlap. from each group one sample would sound! Having a 5th sample full key range that is in no group with the base (group) setting set to “all”, it would always sound in parallel with the other possible 2 of the 4.
This would for example allow for better layering of sounds, while still allowing variations in the samples of the layered sounds. Currently that is not possible.
Also please consider raising polyphony level above 12 (or whatever number it currently is) samples at the same time.
Thanks.

Automation of Effect Commands
I was wondering, if it is possible to automate the values of the effect commands in a specific line with external midi data?
For example with the Sxx slice/offset command to have a varying offset each time the sample is triggered in the last line of my pattern
cheers

Add support for sample tempo related time stretching
Currently, time stretching for loops can only be applied, when you set the correct beat sync value and when the sample 100% match the beat sync value. It would be nice, when we can set a sample tempo, so the time stretcher can use this instead of the beat sync value.
It can be a new mode in the beat sync selector as SmpTmp (Sample tempo):
WAVE/RIFF have a tempo chunk (TEMPOMAP), which can be read out. It could also use the file name or sample length to determine the tempo. Sononym does detect the tempo already.
A sample tempo can be displayed here:
And the tempo could be adjusted here as new option:
Btw.: I build me a little script to extend the sample length, so it matches one of the beat sync values. Works pretty fine for me, but i think this could be solved natively:

New Sonic Arts Freestyle (anyone using it?)
Title says it all. I’m looking at New Sonic Arts Freestyle, having bought Granite and really liking the overall design, sound, and UI. Freestyle appears to be pretty nifty and I am curious if anyone that really jives with Renoise also enjoys Freestyle. Comments, critiques, etc. I am especially interested if there is any native recording options or if there is an easy third-party option for recording performances. The ability to “Freeze to Nuance” seems very promising. I love Renoise’s plugin grabbing capabilities and this seems like it might be a good complement when dealing with more involved setups (multiple VSTi and VST FX setups).
I think Freestyle could be a useful tool in my toolbox for various projects, just looking for any user input before I pull the trigger on the cross grade (as I already bought granite).

MIDI CC assignments question
So I just got a MIDI-keyboard which isn’t supported in my OS (Win 7 64-bit).
No problem! I can get it to recognize as a standard MIDI-keyboard - pitch bend works fine and I don’t want most of the extra functions that came with the keyboard anyway. I can always get to them later, when upgrading to Win 10.
Here’s the thing. I would like to use a few of the knobs on the keyboard for controlling a hardware synth - specifically, I would need to be able to send MIDI CC commands between 23-26 from the keyboard.
The default CC values for the knobs on the keyboard go from CC 16 -21 - and I can’t install the MIDI assignment editor, which is only supported in Win 10. Tough luck.
This might be a silly question, but is there any workaround inside Renoise I could do, to convert the CC values from the MIDI-keyboard to the ones I’d need?
