Renoise’s plugins best friend?

Renoise Forum - November 23, 2020 - 11:58

I came across this meta plugin thing on the White Sea Audio channel and thought it might actually be Renoise’s best friend:
(Basically it’s a plugin to load plugins with a whole bunch of perks)
it’s a VST2 that can load VST3
you can have multiple chains in parralel
and it brings oversampling to everything.

DDMF Metaplugin by DDMF: plugin wrapper, chainer, VST to AAX, AU to AAX

The swiss army knife when it comes to VST/AU/RTAS/AAX plugins. Plugin wrapper, plugin chainer, life saver. Click here to learn more!

(On a side note @taktik , I think that the renoise team might benefit from partnerinq up with such companies to offer bundles. That could free up some development time while offering missing features… And renoise being super cheap for a DAW, I think it would be fair to offer premium bundles with extra plugins for an aditionnal fee )

HNull - Winter's Catharsis

Renoise Forum - November 21, 2020 - 23:18

Hi lovely Renoise community,

I have been using Renoise for the past 12 years, started to use it when I got into electronic music (Venetian Snares… of course. ), was instantly hooked and have been using it as my sole DAW ever since.
Love it for its freedom - I still find it very inspiring to work with.

I released my first album a little bit over 2 years ago but never shared it here. I have always been a little bit (too) shy when it came to showing my stuff to other people.

Anyway, the LP is available on bandcamp and soundcloud.

Here is my (probably) favourite tune of the release.

Thank you for listening, have a good one and try to stay sane in times like these.

Love,
~HNull

Updated Tool (3.1) ChordGun 1.1

Renoise Forum - November 21, 2020 - 22:26

This tool fires chords into the Pattern Editor when record mode is on, and previews chords using OSC server when record mode is off.

com.eatme.ChordGun.xrnx (11.9 KB)

Drap the tool into Renoise version 3.1 or higher (currently: Renoise 3.2.4) to install the tool.
You can then find it via menu Tools… ChordGun.

You may also want to try pattern loop mode (numpad Enter) and play cursor following turned off (Scroll Lock button) when experimenting with the chords with Record mode on.

Version History:
*Update v1.1 from v1.0: Up to the 10th chords, add2 and add4 variations
*Minor fix: capital M for Majadd2
*Minor fix: version bumped up to 1.1, name changed to com.eatme.ChordGun.xrnx
*to do: scrollbar on All Chords, not possible yet via the Renoise LUA ViewBuilder Api.
@taktik plz make scrollbars.

A way to use the same (rather large, sampled) instruments in multiple modules

Renoise Forum - November 21, 2020 - 19:38

…without each module containing its own entire copy of these instruments and all their samples. ie, the xrns would simply refer to the files on disk instead.

Another approach is to “combine” several songs into one module, but that becomes pretty cumbersome for orderlist arrangements and rendering to wav output + remembering where everything is. Currently it’s either that, or a huge waste of disk space when each xrns file could easily be under a megabyte.

(before anyone answers “buy a bigger hdd” i’ll say it right away: i don’t use windows and i don’t adhere to microsoft mentality at all)

How do I continue a phrase after note release?

Renoise Forum - November 21, 2020 - 18:54

Hello,

I am a bit new to Renoise and come from a chiptune background. I would like to use phrases to arpeggiate notes quickly for a chiptune-style chord.

I use phrases instead of the A command because I would like to change how long each note in the chord is and/or use more than 3 notes.

I also use GFF commands in the phrase to stop the samples from retriggering.

Now, so far, this method works just fine. But it breaks down when I try to apply an ADSR volume modulation to the instrument. The phrase, and therefore the chord, stops upon note release. I would like it to continue so the chord nicely fades out.

Here is a short video demonstrating the problem I am having: https://youtu.be/sWtoFojB9JE

I also found this discussion from 6 years ago describing the same problem, did anything change since then? Phrase tailing

Insert lines in multiple tracks at once

Renoise Forum - November 19, 2020 - 21:08

Hello,

In editing mode I can hit the Ins key to insert a new line in the track (it pushes the rest of the track downward), but sometimes I need to paste a block that spans multiple track and I need to make rooms otherwise it would be destructive . How to do that ?
And I have same problem for line deletion : how do I delete say the first line of a multi track pattern ?

Backstage Content for redux

Renoise Forum - November 18, 2020 - 21:30

Trying to install the extra content from backstage for redux. Psudaform and djeurek packages install okay, but others do not. Redux reports installation of the ‘elements’ extra, but it does not show up in the preset selection window. The others, Beatslaughter, PureMagnetix, and ModeAudio do not install.

I like renoise, this is a short song

Renoise Forum - November 17, 2020 - 22:43

During the last lock down, I decided to try music and I bought Renoise. I could have stick with the demo version but, I decided to spend money so I would really use the software. At first I wish I bought FLStudio because most of the tutorials you can watch on Youtube is using it. But I’ve never encounter something I couldn’t do in Renoise. Renoise is so under rated, and I will have to use it for years before I feel limited. Back in March, I knew nothing about music, didn’t knew the ABCDEFG, didn’t knew what a chord was, what a beat looked liked, don’t even mention mixing or what VST stands for. But I have always listen to music, several hours a day, electronic music, and liked it. And I knew what a tracker was, and kind of liked demo songs (my family had an Amiga when I was a kid).

Since I started composing songs in Renoise, my listening is different, I’m not just the head banger I used to be. I’m slowly learning to decode this new language. Since March I have read 2 books about music theory, watched countless videos on music, synthesizers and composition on Youtube, spent days in the tracker trying out what I learnt, and having great pleasure composing my OWN songs (for what they are). I used to be a man without a hobby, now I have one

Today I would like to share my last xrns file. It’s not a whole song, it’s about 30 seconds only. I could spend many weeks on that, but I have to experiment new things. It’s inpired from those old songs made on the first trackers. It’s quite minimalist (xrns is about 800k only), it has a synth that I sampled from the the VST called Dexed, a kick, a snare, a hat. I enjoyed making those 30s, and I like to listen to it. I do hope it won’t make your hears bleeding. Tell me what you think !

https://soundcloud.com/jprudent/dexit-130-bpm

dexit.xrns (803.0 KB)

I would like to thanks this small community of Renoise users. I read your posts on the forum every day and I learnt a great deal reading you. Thanks again.
