Quick MacBook overheating without any significant CPU load

Renoise Forum - December 2, 2020 - 17:15

My MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) becomes very hot very quickly running any Renoise project, no matter what the CPU load is. Just after a few minutes the fan is very loud and I start feeling the heat through the keyboard. So I close Renoise and everything goes back to normal right away.
None of it affects audio performance or reflected on the CPU meter (it’s around 3-15% with the latency from 3-20 ms).
Reaper and Reason run smoothly with the same processes happening inside Redux.

Slice ( non destructive ) issue

Renoise Forum - December 2, 2020 - 14:39

I almsot never use the slicing tool , but now asince I purchased an old yamaha tg77 I use it for sampling certina octaves
There is problem however , Let’s say I sample two octaves ( in one big file ) and then manually add slices ( non destructive )
The first slice added at the verry beginning of the file ( key c3 ) plays the whole recording ( when note is held ) , key C#3 actually plays slice 1 , so we have two keys playing the exact slice ( c3 plays the whole file , c# plays it correct but it should be mapped to c3)
I could transpose the whole instrument but that’s not desirable since I don’t want to keep it as original as possible
Since it 's non destructive , mapping doesn’t work either

Christmas music album (new-age / spiritual / easy listening)

Renoise Forum - December 1, 2020 - 22:50

Hi there!

Then, I’m more used to post some cute tracks on this forum (and that’s nice too ) but here is a project completly different! After 4 years without releasing an entire album, I came back to my new-age project this year. And then I finished my album dedicated to Christmas, started years ago (yes!).

In this album I made mainly instrumental rework of classical and traditional Christmas musics. All is done with Renoise and various VST.

Listen here: (main title traduction “Lights of Christmas”)

Spotify Lumières de Noël

Lumières de Noël, an album by Fabrice Tonnellier on Spotify

Also available into CD digipack into some french stores, Amazon France and more…

Monthly Renoise Centric Challenge 2020/12

Renoise Forum - December 1, 2020 - 04:22

Welcome to the first edition of a monthly Renoise centric challenge !

The monthly challenge is not a competition, it’s a way to share practice and expand creativity together.
You can spend a few minutes to a whole month of work on it, it’s up to you. If you can share your .xrns that would be great (demo users welcome), but you can also share a rendered audio file. Even if you feel stupid about your creation, please share it, someone may learn something about it, you never know. The produced piece of music must comply with a few constraints that will change every month. Sometimes the constraints may appear stupid, but this is what gives some fun and push creativity.

For this month, I picked 3 of the most voted constraints on the poll, which are :

- The piece of music must be exactly 1 minute long
- The .xrns file must be less than 435.49 Kb (I picked this number randomly between 10 and 1000)
- All the sounds of the piece must be derived from this sample https://freesound.org/people/Sruddi1/sounds/34872/ (it was featured as the “random sample of the day”). The sounds must be crafted with the built-in sample editor

If you struggle with some stuff or you would like to share some impressions, I would be very pleased to read from you in this thread

Post your piece (or your pieces) whenever you want (even work in progress), I’m very excited to listen to it.

Open Renoise, press keys, click, copy, paste, turn knobs !

Any Reveal Sound Spire users here?

Renoise Forum - November 30, 2020 - 20:29

Spire from Reveal Sound is my best sounding plugin but Renoise always renders like Renoise has injected an immediate note-off on first note played. (not happening at very slow BPM)

Does this happen to you too? This is so ffn frustrating having to make a ghost pattern play phantom notes of all the spire instruments in song, then render WAV out, then truncate first pattern and crap crap… it is frustrating to the point where I suppose I have to buy Serum and ditch Spire.

HELP! what the 0Ye0 command is doing with the bass

Renoise Forum - November 30, 2020 - 18:48

RENDUM KESHUN_shortsamples.xrns (3.5 MB)

Hello,

on Renoise 3.2.4 win registered with samples only

In trying to make the bass (stop) every once in a while
I used effect command
(note) (volume) 0Ye0
but it does not stop the note, it plays another rather off note (pretty cool) instead.

What is the expected behaviour of this?

How do I stop the note with chance 0Ye0?

Amiga tracker sound on Renoise, is it possible?

Renoise Forum - November 30, 2020 - 09:41

Hi all,

Have recently been playing around with this Protracker 2 emulator, and the sound on it is pretty bang on compared to the original program on the Amiga. I find it amazing that you can literally just drag on a WAV file and it’ll convert to IFF, and sound legit.

One thing I was always hoping for in Renoise was a mode which mimicked the sound of the old amiga trackers, in both the conversion to 8 bit and also the way that playing the sample at diff pitches affects the sound. This pitching sound was always such a big factor of what made the Amiga sound so rugged.
It’s funny if you save a mod file in the pt2 clone, then open it in Renoise, it’s like it’s had all of that rough Amiga charm removed from the samples.

Since the pt2 clone can run on both Windows and Mac, and the clone source code is here on Github I wondered if there would be some way to copy the audio processing qualities into Renoise somehow, maybe as an ‘amiga mode’. I know nowt about coding, but to my mind if it’s possible in this emulator, there must be a way in which those conversion and pitching algorithms can be copied!

Big up all Renoise dev team. If this is possible, I think many many people would love it.

M-Audio Oxigen 49 MK IV "the nightmare"

Renoise Forum - November 28, 2020 - 18:41

Hello all, I’m hoping to find here some kind of clue to end a nightmare I’m experiencing.
It started 2 weeks ago, when i decided to buy a new Oxigen 49 MK 4 . I had the Oxigen 49 Silver for several years before and it always toured with me and worked fine each time so with confidence i bought the MK4. Plugged it in and it worked after a few hours i could hear the typical sound of a USB device disconnecting and immediately after reconnecting this kept on happening and the keyboard was unusable. Thinking it was a faulty units i returned to the shop and i was immediately sent another one. This one same story, it couldn’t hold a connection. I looked at everything, browsed various forum and saw with disappointment many users experiencing same problem. I tried all the various fixes suggested in the forum and when i say all I mean all. Nothing made any difference. I then spoke to the m-audio support here in the UK and after 24 they responded to me with an email telling me that the problem exceeded the level of support they offered, they suggested for me to back up and reinstall the operating system or contact Windows that they might be able to help me. I tried to connect it to another PC, in fact a laptop and it has no problem. So why does it have a problem with my desktop? and why it didn’t have a problem when i first plugged it in to the same desktop? I am not going to format my HD and start installing everything only in VST it would take me forever and i probably would lose all my settings and files . I simply can not believe that I bought a keyboard new and I can’t use it and no one can tell me why. The desktop works very well I run several other usb devices and i have a 65o wts power supply using maybe 350 wats at the moment. I am stuck, i could buy another brand keyboard but what if it gives me the same problem? I cant believe that I have to keep making my music without a keyboard because M-audio can not or will not support their product.
thanks for reading
Cheers
RvG

Is there a way to change the "record" outline color?

Renoise Forum - November 28, 2020 - 05:31

I’ve gone through all the colors in the “main” set of colors for theming, but none of them seem to control the color of the red recording outline when you toggle [esc]. Is there a way to do this through xml anyway, just not “done through the UI” or is there literally no way to theme it? (being able to change that color to something far more obvious than a subtle red would be pretty great)

Problem to buy Renoise

Renoise Forum - November 27, 2020 - 15:43

I want but I can’t buy a Renoise.
The problem is in Billing Information form. Look like its create by KGB. I must give so much personal information like city, street etc. Sounds, like they send me a product not through internet but send by carrier pigeon and that’s why they need personal information.
Is there is some other way, how to buy or I must crack Renoise just for this reason?

Hey folks.

I just had tune uploaded to Gazzz696’s youtube channel. I love his blend of house and disco so very excited to get it up there. Would really appreciate if you give it a like there.

I made most of the tune on Renoise - arrangement, sound design, composition and then mixed down in Renoise. Would love to know your thoughts

The MOTHERLODE of Sample Generators

Renoise Forum - November 26, 2020 - 19:33

For those that know me, I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to generate my own sounds via various methods of synthesis. I’m always pushing for plugins in the Renoise realm, and when I can’t find them, I search on GitHub.

Today, I found NINE audio sample generators for percussion, cymbals, SFX. NINE. They sound different than SFXR and WAFXR. Mess around with these, and I guarantee you’ll find something useful. Even for single-cycles, you could trim out from these an insane amount of sample synthesis material. Bass drums, percussion, SFX, BUBBLES!!!, cymbals. If you search Ryukau’s GitHub, there’s even pad synth generators. Many of these exist as VST 3 plugins and LV2 plugins:
