Messed up Vital vst3 GUI
First load is ok; but opening the GUI after closing it gives me this ( the screen is also too small, first time it opens bigger).
I’m on windows 10
auto scaling for this vst is set to off .
Only “fix” for now is reloading vital.

Can't save my work
Hi,
So just upgraded my PC and version of Renoise, now on Windows 10 with Renoise 3.3, and now can’t seem to save / update an existing project. I can create a project using save as, but later on when I try to save progress it pops up with two stages of message.
The first says: “destination folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action”.
I have two options, ‘try again’ or ‘cancel’. Try again does nothing so I click cancel and it then produces this message:
“saving failed with error. The song was successfully saved but could not be moved to its final destination. Please make sure there is enough free space on the disk”.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Same VST on Windows/OSX not the same in Renoise
Recently I have started going back and forth between my desktop PC and my MacBook, trying to keep most of my plugins installed on both machines to continue working on projects from either.
While this seems to work fine with most of them (Sylenth, Nexus, Kontakt etc.) there is the odd one which is not recognized by Renoise as being “the same”, which in my case is Cableguys’ PanCake which apparently is named “PanCake2-64bit” on Windows and “PanCake2” on OSX.
I tried changing the name of the plugin listed in the track DSP panel’s plugin selector but that seems to be cosmetical only. Renaming the file itself does not affect this behaviour either of course.
When trying to copy and paste the settings from the disabled Windows instance to the one I can add on OSX Renoise tells me that it cannot copy settings from an PanCake2-64bit device to a PanCake2 device (which wouldn’t even solve the initial problem but it was worth trying I guess).
While this is probably not directly related to Renoise maybe somebody here has run into a similar issue? Maybe there is a way to tell Renoise that a certain plugin should be run under an alias?

Where to find crashlog?
Renoise 3.3.1 crashes every time on me when using Plugin Grabber to render a lot of samples from a VST instrument. I’d like to troubleshoot but can’t find the crashlog – any pointers would be helpful!
The crash seems to be related to how many samples I’m grabbing, the crash doesn’t happen with few short samples, and happens every time if I try to grab something like 6 octaves chromatically. The crash occurs every time at 99% completion. (win 10 x64, ltsc 2019)
If you want to try to reproduce I had these settings:
– don’t remove plugin after grab
– grab 6 octaves chromatically, 1 velocity layer
– 8000 ms length
– 2000 ms tail
– no loop

White noise/native synthesis challenge
Hi all
Thought it might be fun to drop a challenge on everyone… The premise is simple. Create a complete track starting from one sample only: white noise. All synthesis should be done with native renoise dsp. Resampling is allowed, waveform generation via the ringmod synthesis trick is allowed, all other forms of renoise native synthesis are allowed and encouraged. ALL percussion elements must also be generated from white noise. No other samples, starting waveforms, or plugins allowed at any point in the process!
The idea being that this can be an opportunity to explore the boundaries of renoise’s synthesis capabilities, tease out some amazing sounds from the most humble building block, and ideally, make some bangerz.
Anybody in?
No time limits, no prizes, all styles welcome, just some good old-fashioned nitty-gritty sample-based synthesis tweakery.
HONOR SYSTEM: By posting below, I hearby solemnly swear to use/have used only white noise as a starting point for native renoise synthesis and sound design in any piece of music posted in this thread.
I’ve got a piece in the works using only white noise as a starting point for every sound, and will post it here when it’s fully cooked.
Hope you take up the challenge!
peace,
zensphere

Renoise x64 defaulting to 32-bit VST3
Hi,
I’ve had my eye on Renoise for some time now, but with the release of 3.3, finally pulled the trigger and bought it! I’m currently running 64-bit 3.3.1 on Windows 10.
Just now I installed the Spitfire LABS plugin, which comes in four flavours: 32 & 64-bit VST2, and 32 & 64-bit VST3. Unfortunately their installer doesn’t have options to control this; you get all four. My install paths for VST3 plugins are the defaults - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3 for 32-bit, and C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 for 64.
Opening up Renoise after installing LABS, I saw it detected a new VST3 instrument, which is great - however, on loading it in, I noticed it was the 32-bit version. There is only one entry for it in my plugins list - it doesn’t show the VST2 versions, or the 64-bit VST3. In the end, I forced it to load the 64-bit VST3 by going into my 32-bit plugin folder and renaming the file (.vst3 -> .vst3.bak). After re-scanning for plugins in Renoise, and loading in LABS again, I get the 64-bit version.
Are there options somewhere that I missed that control the hiding/showing of multiple versions of the same plugin? Or an option to make Renoise default to 64-bit plugins when available? Defaulting to 32-bit VST3 in the 64-bit version of Renoise seems counter-intuitive, at best.

Key tracker quastion
Greetings!
Recently I have been actively using the wave generation method in the Renoise using the native ring modulation plug-in. Everything works cool. But the question is, is it possible using the formula device to change octaves? Since if you connect the tracker key to several ring modulators (to get a chord), changing the offset in the notes according to the chord is incorrect.
thnx and have nice day!

Attempt at A Long-Term Project
So I think this next piece I’m working on is definitely one who’s backstory is kind of incoherent and vague, being that the idea was started from childhood memories of a sophomore bedroom producer who spends most of his time trying to re-create the same music that was made 30 years ago and failing miserably; and that the whole idea comes from that bedroom producer finding out that you make enough sequences to fill out a half hour.
So I’ll try not to ramble actually be concise.
So my next big project is a 31 minute xrni file of remixes, flips, and mashups of cartoons, commercials, bumpers, and shows I watched in my early youth as a sort of musical capsule of my childhood. With each track being based around a theme and elements fading out and in light a DJ set.
Riveting concept, I know, like mashups haven’t been a thing and more than so a meme at this point in age, but this idea has been bouncing around in my head since the beginning of 2020 and I’ve sorta flirted around with the idea in a few never fully realized projects and one remix of the Code Name Kids Next Door. I take a lot from my childhood memories and like anyone else i cherish them very much, that’s also the explanation for my profile pic.
It’s definitely a big project, but I’m excited to work on this. The first song theme, you can say, is based around the 2008-2010 sign off of Adult Swim to Cartoon Network. You can find it here https://youtu.be/DGVReNUlt1k
I’ll put the xrni file for the first song of this project in the post, if you would like to see what I’m doing and maybe find some samples or something else, “have at it” i say!
So again, pretty weird and surprisingly dissonant post considering the 30 - 10 year generational gap that this post entails, considering the motivation for this project, but this is something that means a lot to me. Though it probably shouldn’t, i mean nostalgia-filled sophomore who has no reason to have nostalgia considering that he has no real life responsibilities and the only difference between now and then is the school he goes to isn’t exactly “top rung” on the personality ladder. But i hope i could at least give you some insight, so if your still reading this, thank you very much for taking the time to listen, and i hope you enjoy what’s here.
To recap, The “theme” of the first song is based around the 2008-2010 sign off of Adult Swim to Cartoon Network. https://youtu.be/DGVReNUlt1k
It is unfinished which is why there’s an abrupt cutoff, but i think i have enough material here to be worth an actual post.
Any feedback you have regarding mixing, composition, or something else is 100% welcome and appreciated.
Without further adieu, here it is https://soundcloud.com/user-380049625/noods
I really hope that this doesn’t turn into another project where i get frustrated and give up, I’ll promise I’ll try my very hardest to not let that happen, no matter what.

Don't mind the calm, calm the mind (bitwig & digitone)
digitone recorded into bitwig, one track of polymer (bitwig synth) added and everything goes into renoise redux for some pre master fx.

Another piano roll: com.dufte.SimplePianoroll.xrnx
com.dufte.SimplePianoroll.xrnx [alpa-0.1]
Here is my attempt for a pianoroll. Its currently very alpha, but works for basic stuff.
I’ve pushed the source to github:
Pianoroll for Renoise. Contribute to ryrun/com.dufte.SimplePianoroll.xrnx development by creating an account on GitHub.
If you want to try this out, just download the source as zip file, rename it to xrnx and drop it onto Renoise.
I’ll upload this later to the official tool page, when its stable enough.
Its a spare time project, but could be useful for others, too.
Not all actions can be done with mouse only. Some like transpose need keyboard. I still dont know, how i can archive dragging. Maybe someone can give me some hints. Coloring is inspired by FL
It needs API level 6, which should be Renoise 3.2
Hope you like it, feedback as always is welcome.

(MacOS) Low UI refresh rate with certain color profiles for the display set in the OS
So, after months of hoping for better performance on my Mac, thanks to Neuro… No Neuro I found out what caused my issue:
Having set my Mac display to the “iMac” color profile in the OS settings, I have a terrible refresh rate of Renoise’s UI. To the point, where I deem it unusable. Approximately 20 fps.
Solution: Setting the display color profile to sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Thing is, if Renoise can be “fixed” to work well with any color profile, I could keep using the one I work with for editing photos, without having to switch every time.
Renoise version 3.3.1
System: Intel based iMac 2017, 27" model
MacOS 11.1 Big Sur

Seamless loop rendering and Live-Looping
Came up with two relatively simple to implement features that would improve Renoise:
First is an option to render the selection / column / track / pattern in the second pass, as that would include the FX tail right at the start and create a seamless loop that includes any nice FX you might have put on the channel.
Second is the option to automatically punch out the recording at the end of the pattern. That way, people with e.g. a guitar can record something and then playback would continue looped without recording any further, while they can keep playing live to the recording.

[Bug] Keyzones, Note-Off Layer and preview audio wave
R3.3.1 Win10 x64
What happens:- Select Sampler and Keyzones.
- Create an instrument with multiple samples inside the Note-On Layer.
- Select Note-off Layer.
- With the sample box empty, the audio wave preview shows an audio wave (the last one selected in the Note-On Layer).
With the sample box empty, the audio wave preview should be empty.
It should show the label “No sample selected”

Control key not recognised when remapped
I use SharpKeys to swap the CapsLock key with LeftControl on my keyboard on Windows 10. This works fine in absolutely everything, including games, BUT not in the latest version of Renoise. Basically, none of the default Ctrl shortcuts work, and if I try to reassing a custom shortcut to them, neither my hardware CapsLock or hardware LeftControl keys are recognised.
It would be nice if this could be fixed. I am a programmer myself and I’m not even sure how it is possible that this remapping breaks Control handling in Renoise altogether. In my own GLFW based programs the remapping works just fine and completely transparently when I’m handling keycodes.
Thanks in advance guys!
