Randomize Track Mute
Hi,
I recently found a little work around to randomize toggling the mute section of an audio track, since there is no effect command (that I’m currently aware of) that allows for manually triggering on / off track mute. So instead I found this route useful, hope someone else does too:
(note: This is on Mac but I’m sure it’s possible on windows as well)
-
First, go to Renoise >> Preferences >> MIDI >> In Device A and select your virtual midi device IAC Driver
(if you don’t know how to turn on IAC check this link -
Setup two tracks and label them Audio and then Control
- On the Control track add a MIDI Control Meta Device and in the instrument panel on top right create new track with IAC as output
- Then on your Audio track enter midi learn mode and set IAC Control Message 0 to the Mute portion of your audio track.
I did this using Max MSP to send out control messages to Renoise for the initial learn, but you could easily do this with another audio program that allows for midi control sends, or even figure a way to do it from Renoise itself.
-
Now when you slide the CC0 ‘0’ as seen in pics above the mute should go on / off for the track labeled audio
-
Lastly, I added an LFO meta device (super handy renoise plugin!) to randomize the MIDI Controller meta device, creating a sort of probability based Mute On / Off toggle

Everything automation?
Maybe I have said it before but here goes again,
everything should could be controlled with automation (also midi)((also midi channels in/out and midi program change and transpose.
aNd also, especially all the stuff in the sampler, phrases LPb, sample command fx slider
automation on scales and note?
yeah, everything, I guess
oh, and the macro, 8 is not enough, why not just have everything in the sampler being automated do as all the other envelopes automations outside side sampler, have the sampler automation go out of the sampler so you don’t need the macros? Would be much easier:)
and also Automation on vst plugin instruments and audio plugin GUI. Thaaank you:)

Get Creative With Limitations: Music making challenges to focus the mind
Hi
I wrote this article on using limitations for Sonicstate:
Music making challenges to focus the mind
Do you have any particular techniques to limit your music making?
What other limitations might inspire creativity?

Can't resize VST2 window
Testing the VCVRack VST Beta and I found that I can’t resize the VST window.
I can only compare to Reaper right now where resizing works as expected.
Is there anything the VST could do here or Renoise forces the initial size?
I’m using Renoise 3.3.2 on Linux and it is a VST2.

Renoise and S88 Komplete Kontrol Midi mapping issue
Hi there!
I am trying to midi map my Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol s88 keyboard to have the play/rec/stop buttons trigger when I press the respective buttons on the actual keyboard. The only problem is, those buttons are doubled with my 7th octave keys. To better understand, if I have an instrument on and I press any of the play/stop/rec keys they will play a sound on the instrument rather than be blank. If I try to remap them then I cannot use those keys on the keyboard anymore. The piano keys become mapped for the play/rec/stop functions as well…
Anyone know how I could bypass this? Also, is there any way I could get Renoise to better integrate with my S88 Keyboard (the same way in which this keyboard apparently works premapped with more famous DAWS such as Ableton) ?
Thank you all for your help!

Linux VST instruments don't work
I’ve tried: Dexed, Oxe, Aspect, Tunefish, and others. Vertigo was the only one that worked. Vital worked but crashes the DAW when you try to close the plugin window

Renoise won't go full screen
Clicking full screen makes the renoise window stutter a second then stay the same size. I can resize the window horizontally but I can’t resize it vertically by much. It’s always covering my toolbar a little bit now.
I’m on windows 11 64 bit

Extended Function keys
Hello,
I just got a 122 keys IBM Keyboard, with 24(!) function keys, with a “Soarer’s converter”.
These extra keys can be very useful for mapping many shortcuts, but I noticed that Renoise can’t “see” the F13 to F24 keys…
Other softwares can see them.
What do you think about it?

Duplex - is it dead?
Hi folks,
I’ve seen over this forum a fair bit of discussion of Duplex, but most of it goes back quite some time.
I bought recently a Launchpad mini mk3 in the hopes of finally achieving my dream of a sequencer that will integrate nicely for rhythm composing on the fly that I watch my partner do constantly on his Push 2 with Ableton. The ability to really just throw things together so quickly while the sequencer is rolling with a physical interface is something I really want to get to.
I’ve fired up Duplex, but saw straight away that it only seems to have support for older Launchpads.
Is there a profile engine that I could try and sink my teeth into to give the ability to sequence to my Launchpad Mini mk3? It would be a killer and cheap way to add this functionality to Renoise and massively improve my workflow especially for live jams (I’m using renoise lately mainly to drive my huge modular I’ve been hand building including some great analogue synth drums).
Any pointers would be great

Redux won't show up in Logic Pro. Tried a lot (EDIT: SOLVED, SOLUTION INSIDE)
I tried multiple things but I just can’t get the AU component to show up. The first time I added it it said “cannot open” and I figured it was because of the license. So I re-installed and now it shows as “validated and openable” but I don’t see it in the list of Audio Unit plugins anywhere.
MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
I just tried it in Reaper and it does show up under AUi and can be opened fine.
When I go to Plugin Manager back in Logic I see that Renoise is listed, it says it is fully validated and open, but I don’t see it in the dropdown when I want to add an Instrument to a track. I do not see "Renoise: in the list of developers. When I rescan that particular plugin, I see that it ends by saying “Updating AU properties…” and I can’t tell if it’s stuck or if that’s just the last line of the process. It does not proceed once it reaches that point.
this is what it looks like:
Anyway thanks for any help.

Rendering Error when using a ZBxx - Break pattern command
Hi,
today this error occured again! Whenever I use a ZBxx - Break pattern command in a song the rendering will not stop at the last line of the last pattern but instead render on in the first line of the first pattern for round about four lines!
I would like to know if this is an issue or if I am missing something?
Thank you in advance

New to renoise and using Macbook Pro
Hello!
I’ve stumbled around with Renoise for a bit and have used the Polyend Tracker in the past. I’ve also purchased an external PC keyboard with a number pad, but also own a simple USB number pad. I’m curious if there’s other Macbook Pro users that have any tips on what keyboard shortcuts they’re using or had to change. In the end, I’d like to ditch the external keyboard and just use my laptop, as I’m not just using Renoise. I’m also pretty sure this has been covered but the search turns up very little. I’m mainly concerned with sample Fx mappings, so I can quickly enter in values for something as simple as a snare rush. I can do it now but have to click with the mouse and arrow over to enter in data. Thanks for any info!
