Fade In/Out Command Not Working?

March 24, 2019 - 18:59

@Ghost_Train wrote:

I’m just trying to learn the different commands and trick here. I am trying to figure out how to fade out a sample with no success yet.

The Effects Commands reference card shows
Oxx - FadeOut - xx = amount in steps of 1/256,00 = repeat.

I’ve tried both O01 and O256 in the FX column on the step the sample is triggered and any steps after.
I’ve tried repeating the same command on every step. The sample remains unaffected and continues to play out as normal.

What is the trick to make fades work?

New Tool (3.1): Line Counter

March 24, 2019 - 15:02

@cupcake wrote:

Hi, this is a simple tool i started years ago to just count the number of lines selected in the pattern and display the result in the status bar. It was intended to be of use when playing in notes ‘rubato’ style, and helping to line stuff up. I think i intended to use the count to set the correct BPM eventually, but never got around to that part yet. I have cleaned up the code and commented it. There’s probably some redundancy in there, but it works quite well.

The next step for this tool is to add a menu entry and some options, like setting display time-out, an enable switch, and an offset timer to allow other status messages to display first, because as it is it interferes with other tools’ use of the status bar to show messages.

I might also add some kind of option to change the edit step based on the selected number of lines, as that could make it more useful perhaps.

Ok,byebye.

Waves plugins on Windows 10 64-bit with 3.1.1

March 23, 2019 - 19:49

@SyneRyder wrote:

Has anyone got Waves v10 plugins working with Renoise 3.1.1 64-bit on Windows 10?

I can get AudioTrack & Bass Rider to load, but Renoise seems to crash once it tries scanning Bass Slapper (which is a virtual instrument, not an effect). None of the other Waves plugins are showing up. My Waves plugins work fine on Renoise 3.1.1 Mac with High Sierra 10.13, but I’m trying to move to Windows.

I’ve tried deleting the VST caches & CrashedVST caches & rescanning, but that hasn’t worked. I’ve also tried the shell2vst trick to make Waves plugins work, but shell2vst also stops at the Bass Slapper VST instrument. I’m just left with “hell3-VST 10.0_x64” and “hell4-VST 10.0_x64” in my effects list. Moving the “Bass Slapper.bundle” or removing my Bass Slapper license & rescanning didn’t help either.

(For what it’s worth, Cantabile Lite doesn’t load Bass Slapper or any other plugins after it either, so I guess this is really a Waves problem… but I thought I’d try asking here first.)

Keyboard Focus get stuck

March 22, 2019 - 07:00

@Chris_Edberg wrote:

I’m using only Focus Next View and Focus Previous View (I find it more useful than to map a unique key for every view for my workflow).

However, once the keyboard focus get to the window of Plug-In effects, it remains there. More specifically, it jumps between the box and the search field. You have to mouse-click in another view to reset.

Is this a bug, or what am I doing wrong?

Nudge Wraparound

March 21, 2019 - 20:28

@midierror wrote:

The nudge feature is useful for shimmying notes around, but you tend to lose notes from the top to bottom - is it possible to have the notes be nudged from the end of a pattern round back to the beginning - and vice versa?

so if a pattern is 64 steps, and you nudge down, the notes on step 64 become notes on step 1

Is there any way that I can record into directly Redux via my interface instead of sidechaining audio into it? Like how it works in Renoise but I don’t see any Audio Preferences in redux ):

Korg Minilogue Routing (No Sound When Exporting)

March 18, 2019 - 23:02

@luisaguirre wrote:

I’m having a hard time figuring this out. Doesn’t help that I’m kind of noob at routing and midi. I have my Minilogue routed via USB and playing nicely with Renoise. I can record and playback. I can hear my minilogue playing fine. But when I go to export the track the minilogue is no longer audible. I’ve messed with changing the output in preferences and under the midi tab to no avail. I’m sure I’ve missed something but I can’t figure out what it is. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Anyone know what the cabinet sim models are based on?

@orrigans wrote:

I love the cabinet sim effect and I’ve always wondered what cabinets they’re actually modeled on. Some of them are obvious from their names, but I have no idea what “All Classic” or “Breakdown” is supposed to be, for example.

Not a terribly important question I guess, just curious.

[Template] Ted's Ultimate Mastering Template .xrns

March 17, 2019 - 23:43

@ted wrote:

Hello, everyone,

I’m surprised to not have found any mastering templates on the web for this, so here’s to what I hope is a first. Contrary to popular belief, Renoise is actually natively capable of some very complex mastering techniques.

The template works by utilizing subtracting and summing signals to isolate mid/side data through the utilization of the Stereo Expander, Gainer, and #Send devices. I made this template very intuitive and user-friendly for people to understand. It’s color coded and labeled. Simply drag-and-drop an audio file into Renoise, and it should be automatically assigned to the first and only sample-instrument in the project. I have included some helper DSP effects, such as the Mono Tester, as well as some default presets to remove unwanted low frequencies in the mid and side buses.

Tracks are split and abstracted in a manner that allows for the easy adding of DSPs, while limiting the exposure of project internals. They are minimized and hidden in the mix bus by default. The audio will be split into two tracks, mid (mono) and side (stereo). This then allows you to process the tracks individually, as opposed to a busing of all signals. Additionally, each track (mid, side, m+s) will be split into 3 bands to allow for multiband processing (such as compression or distortion). The final product will then be summed and reconstructed into a “master” track (not to be confused with Renoise’s master bus).

Features:

  • Drag-and-Drop! Simply drop your mix into Renoise. There is only one instrument/sample device configured.
  • Autoseek is enabled by default. Seek and scroll. Additionally, so is sinc interpolation and oversampling.
  • A separate “master” track, with the chain not affecting the mixer’s main master track.
  • A separate “reference” track, unaffected by any processing, capable of being quickly soloed and isolated to quickly compare your work.
  • Split mid/side channel tracks for individual signal and effect processing.
  • Multiband splitting on the “Mid”, “Sum”, and “master” (referred to as “M+S”) tracks, to allow for processing such as multiband compression.
  • Default helper effects, including a “mono tester” in order to quickly test your mono mix, as well as other boilerplate processing such as a limiter (the Maximizer DSP effect).
  • 0.68 ms latency. Typical use cases are < 5ms.
  • Channels conveniently fit in the mixing tab on an 1920x1080 monitor without needing to scroll.
  • Easily usable with keyboards and minimal mouse involvement.
  • Intuitive labeling, colors, and use!
  • Theoretically backwards compatible with as low as Renoise 2.7 (introduction of the Multi Send device), however 2.8 is recommended to utilize a greater configuration of filters.

Tips and Usage:

  • Drag your finished and mixed track into the project. Renoise will automatically overwrite and assign it to the only instrument in the project. No other action is required.
  • Add all DSP devices before any devices labeled with # or they will not process signals.
  • You can work solely in the Mixer and Sampler tabs.
  • Use the [S] button-toggle on the reference track in the Mixer to quickly compare your work.
  • Ideally, work with 24-bit or 32-bit sampled renders only to allow for a low noise floor when processing.
  • Use the Bus Compressor device for compression.
  • Mono Tester - use this device, located in the “Mst” track, to make sure the mix sounds good in non-directional or mono listening environments, and that there are no phase issues that occur.
  • Label your work on DSP effects by renaming them (supported in 3.x only).
  • By default, oversampling, autoseek, and sinc interpolation are enabled for sample playback. These features can be disabled without issue.
  • Sample rates do not matter. 44.1 KHz is good enough, though as a precaution, I recommend working with sample rates that are of your render, or that are divisible by 2 (i.e: 96->48, 88.2->44.1 kHz).
  • It’s recommended to remove and cut low frequencies from the side track. By default, the project uses a Butterworth 8n high-pass filter to remove and attenuate frequencies below 80 Hz, which is approximately when human directional sound localization stops.
  • The project is configured to remove frequencies below 20 hz, which are approximately the lowest frequencies humans can sense.
  • Fixing things in your master is not a substitute for a good mix!

Limitations:

  • The standard renoise DSP compressor does not work on tracks containing solely stereo datum, i.e: the side tracks. The Bus Compressor, however, will work without any problems.

Tested and Developed with:

  • Renoise 3.1.1 (x64).
  • DirectSound drivers, running on a 44.1 KHz sampling rate, 35 ms latency/buffering with dithering
  • Automatic PDC (plugin delay compensation).
  • 4 audio CPUs.
  • Realtek High Definition onboard audio chip from EVGA’s Intel H55 chipset.
  • Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) operating system.
  • An Intel Core i5 760 2.8 GHz CPU.

Can note names be overridden?

@abhaskar wrote:

Is it possible to write a plugin/script that can change note names from C-4/C#4/etc. to plain integers, including negative integers? When I write microtonal music, I like to think in terms of scale degrees away from the root note - e.g. a major triad would change from C-4/E-4/G-4 to 0/4/7.
