Amiga booting problem - harddrives seen as diskdrives?

October 29, 2019 - 19:49

@Jonas wrote:

Anyone still versed in Amiga?

Recently installed a gotek into my Amiga 2000, trying to install viruskillers and utilities to salvage old mod disks. Now I either messed up saving a corrupted mod to one of the installed harddrives, or removing a virus is the culprit, either way it won’t boot up into workbench anymore.

Booting up I get a “not a DOS disk in unit 0” in a system request window, if I do manage to get into workbench through a gotek loaded program, both harddrives are listed as; “DH0: DLT” & “DH1: DLT”. Anyone know what this means? Quick googling hasn’t brought up anything useful (yet).

I have checked for virusses and removed a CLS file which was infected with a diskmaster 2 virus (not sure if I have remembered the name correctly). But didn’t experience any problems in the days after.

Anyone know of good programs to look for (booting) errors, getting back asses to the harddrives?

Multiline_textfield hardcrash example

October 29, 2019 - 17:52

@joule wrote:

Granted, the following snippet produces some feedback looping, it can also make Renoise hardcrash after entering a couple of characters.

I wanted to mention it since it might have to do with multiline_textfield:clear() behaving a bit weird? It looks like it doesn’t quite know if the textfield is selected or not, after invoking :clear(). Maybe GUI engine gets confused about rendering the selection border, what do I know…

local vb = renoise.ViewBuilder() local ml_textfield = nil local gate = false local proxy_func = function() if not gate then gate = true -- ml_textfield.edit_mode = false -- uncomment this line, and it doesn't seem to crash ml_textfield:clear() end gate = false end ml_textfield = vb:multiline_textfield { width = 100, notifier = proxy_func } local test_view = vb:column { ml_textfield } renoise.app():show_custom_dialog( "", test_view )

Laggy Delay Sound After Playback Ends

October 29, 2019 - 17:05

@EliWayMusic wrote:

A brief sort of laggy clip of the midi or patterns currently active will remain playing after I’ve ended playback with the space key. I’ve attached a video of what I’m referring to so you can see what I mean. I figure it probably has to do with latency, but I’ve never seen this problem before in other DAWs. Any help? Thanks

Help with key-repeat

October 29, 2019 - 16:29

@dspasic wrote:

Hello guys,

I’ve installed beta version of renoise but all of a sudden when i hold my (for example Z (c3)) notes don’t repeat like it used to. For example i set step lenght to 1, enable record, put my cursor on first note, and then press & hold Z (c3) my cursor doesn’t move downward (like it would with step length 1).

my goal is to hold one note which would just enter same note and keep scrolling, but in this case, it doesn’t happen when i hold button, i have to constantly press it…

for example when i hold arrow down, it just goes to one field down and stops, same for all directions…

Now i’ve reverted to 3.2 version, and it’s the same ~ my conclusion is that this is some key-repeat function which i obviously cannot find, which i probabbly accidently pressed and cannot revert.

Can you please help?
Thanks in advance

Any feedback on the mixing would be cool, particularly track 9. The bass sounds nifty using headphones and utterly naff using speakers.

I did a little research to see if I could make this, but I’m no programmer and I immediately felt like I was in over my head. Has anyone made or can anyone create a tool that displays FX parameters and Vol. Delay and Panning as Renoise Rotary Knobs? Basically this tool: https://www.renoise.com/tools/note-properties but including FX commands.

Maybe something already exists but I’ve searched and couldn’t find anything.

The original On My Mind demo song by gemini / silents

Renoise versions 1.2, 1.25 and 1.26 came with a cool demo song called onmymind.rns that had 2 electric guitars playing in harmony. Renoise 1.27 (August 2003) and later versions came with an updated song, onmymind2.rns, that only had 1 guitar.

It’s taken me ages to find a download for the original, so I’m making this thread just to help anyone who googles “renoise on my mind nostalgia”.

None of those old Renoise demos are on https://www.renoise.com/archived-releases. I eventually found them at https://ftp.sunet.se/mirror/archive/ftp.sunet.se/pub/simtelnet/win95/musinst/ - rns12.exe rns125.exe rns126.exe rns1261.exe.

I wonder if it would be legal or polite to upload the rns or mp3 or video…

I have not thoroughly tested it in R3.2.1 b1. So I don’t know if it will affect too. I use a 150% scaling. This error occurs when turning the mouse wheel on the surface of the Renoise window. Simply, the main window closes without showing anything else.

I am using window tools, with several notifiers. Maybe they influence the mistake. But it shouldn’t happen that way. It is a critical error.

Redux - Play sample from cursor position with MIDI KB not working

October 26, 2019 - 10:29

@Sqeetz wrote:

Hello,

in Renoise itself the toggle to play the sample from the cursor position works as it is supposed to do. No matter if you use the typing or a MIDI keyboard.

In Redux, though, it only works with the typing keyboard. With the MIDI keyboard the sample always plays from the beginning.

I’ve tested it in Bitwig, FL Studio and in Renoise itself. It’s all the same.

Trouble following Bizzy B's tutorial

October 26, 2019 - 04:34

@lunchwithghosts wrote:

Hi all -

Total Renoise (and tracker) newb here. I’m following along with Bizzy B’s tutorial on how to chop breaks (https://youtu.be/wUQR798BXe8) and I’ve found that the default settings on my new install don’t match all of his. One big example was in the Keyzones section, under Drum Kit settings, he must have “Use first octave for transposing” based on how his keyzones look. It’s been about an hour and a half of trial and error trying to get my setup to match his, but I’m stuck on one part.

When he starts his session he has a BPM of 80 set (I understand this is randomized). I set mine to 80. He loads a sample, slices it, and renders the slices to a phrase. When he hits enter to play the phrase, it plays very slowly. He then ups the tempo to 170 and the sample plays at it’s original speed.

When I’m trying this, when I hit enter with the BPM set to 80 it plays at regular speed. When I then go to up the tempo to 170 it is playing way too fast.

I must be missing something stupid. I tried searching the PDF manual but couldn’t find anything that helped. Does anyone know what option I am looking for here?

Thanks so much!

Using Redux Phrases in Reaper

October 26, 2019 - 03:13

@Wes wrote:

Hey guys,

I’m completely new to using DAWs and plug-ins. I’m currently toying around with Redux in Reaper, and I’m creating some pretty cool beats.

However, I have no idea how to actually use my phrases in Reaper. When I save in Redux, the file saves as a .xrni file, which I cannot open. Is there anyway to save my phrases as WAV files, so I can put them into my songs in Reaper?

Thanks in advance!

Automation - things to improve

October 25, 2019 - 23:40

@lilith wrote:

With the latest update the automation improved a lot, but still I’m not 100% satisfied with it and I wonder what your impression is. Some points that could be improved imo. Or maybe I’m just to stupid to use it correctly

  1. The line tool and the pencil tool are not consistent: In the pencil tool you delete points by double clicking on them, which is not possible in the line tool mode. It’s even not possible to delete points in the line tool mode, is it?

Would it be possible to delete points by selecting one or more points with a box by the right mouse key + e.g. Ctrl and hitting Del afterwards? This is for instance the method REAPER is using.

In the line mode I can move points vertically and horizontally with holding the left mouse key. In the pencil mode it’s drawing new points instead.

  1. Sometimes it’s very hard to hit the points I want to delete and most of the time I have to zoom in first, because no point at all is deleted. Maybe some kind of snapping could help here?

  2. Make simple Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V possible in the automation view to copy / paste automation patterns.
    Ok, it’s possbile when marking a region with Ctrl+left mouse key.

  3. The red points to adjust curves can be moved vertically but not horizontally. I also like to have the possibility to adjust the sensitivity here. Or maybe implement some kind of acceleration?

  4. In line mode there’s a info text: Hold down shift key to erase other points … double click to remove
    Double click and shift key is not working for me? Am I’m doing something wrong?

  5. When being in line mode I often overwrite the automation when switching to another pattern. It only works when exactly hitting an other point in the other pattern

  6. Is it possible to make cross pattern editing in the drawing mode possible? This discussion came up some months ago.

These are the major points, I guess there are still some minor things that could be improved.

What do you think?

High cpu usage during pitch shifting one sample

October 25, 2019 - 21:06

@toimp wrote:

I’m not sure, if this is a bug or just the current way how pitch shifting / time stretching is working inside Renoise. I’ve attached a demo song with one pad sample and a cheesy little melody and it takes up 70% cpu usage on my i7 3770k. Maybe it’s possible to optimize it more

Dropbox high_cpu_usage.xrns

Shared with Dropbox

Edit: Ok, it seems lowering the beat sync pattern lines amount also reduce the cpu usage dramatically. So its currently not a good idea to stretch long samples to short ones.
