Pitch bend limitations
Apologies in advance if it’s been discussed plenty before, but I couldn’t find any definitive answers to my questions upon looking around.
I’m currently writing a conversion tool for a sequence format similar to standard MIDI and an accompanying proprietary instrument-format. My goal is to convert the original songs to XRNS files. However, I’ve stumbled upon a couple of hurdles in the process. Namely, the original format, from early 2000s, appears to be more flexible in a couple regards related to pitch bending:
- An instrument can have more than one active pitch via pitch-bend (track-specific)
- The maximum pitch (bend) range is -/+127.0 semitones
Whereas, in Renoise, it appears that pitch bends (at least “M1” pitch-bends) are applied to all tracks that use the same instrument. And the maximum pitch bend range is 96.0 semitones.
Is there any good approach to get around these limitations in Renoise? I have thought of a couple of ideas so far, but find them somewhat cumbersome and perhaps not optimal:
Possible solution for issue #1: Make a separate copy of each instrument for each track. Drawbacks with this is that it adds to the XRNS filesize, adds clutter, and complicates the conversion process (instrument numbers/indexes would have to be changed in a lot of places, as well as respective modulation sets, etc.).
Possible solution for issue #2: Since it appears that there is never actually any pitch-bend command in the original files that goes above 96.0 semitones, this can probably be solved with a range conversion formula. Two songs do use a pitch-bend range of 127.0 though, so a potential drawback here is that it might not be a fully lossless conversion in these cases.

A few minor bugs found
Renoise 3.4x, Windows 10x, ASIO mode (NI Komplete audio 6 interface). Dual monitor, one vertical the other horizontal.
-
ASIO, first minor issue. Almost every start up of ReNoise the NI driver complains of not being able to initialize. Reinitiating after reselection of ASIO type fixes this almost always.
-
Vertical monitor, if I leave ReNoise up and come back after say power management turns off monitors, the 2nd screen on the vertical monitor become unclickable, until reseting layout presets.
While these 2 are not major bugs they can be annoying mostly.
I just wanted to report these 2, with the new version up coming just in case
2a) One other annoyance is if say you want to keep SPAN up if it is then trying to use something like enter to disable any other fx (even vsts) this won’t work until you close SPAN, for example. Keeping this up can be useful & prevent the annoyance of having to close external plugins displaying before you can disable it or others.
Additionally, I would really like a bit more window control than just the few popuot options. Ideally I would like the main pattern sequencer on the vertical monitor for obvious reasons for pattern input and horizontal screen for mixing/sample areas. Since both seem intuitive in such aspects.
Lastly I have lost some unsaved work due to crashes that I had just started on for instance. I try to save as much as possible & even have 2 backups option enabled. However there has been times that I would of thought reloading Renoise would of caught the exception & saved the song before or after the crash. It has caught this a few times but hasn’t always been the case.
Overall, I am a long time ReNoise user & advocate. Looking forward to the next release. These bugs mentioned are hardly show stoppers!
Cheers ReNoise team & users.

Can't write efx in the efx column
Hi there, so I recently switched from Mac to Windows. When I go to write an efx command (say for instance D70 for pitch down) I cant actually move the cursor into the second column to put the letter there. I can only put letters in the first column, which just says unknown effect. Please advise, thanks

Convolver Phase Dispersion
Hey all,
I figured out a cool trick (probably not original to me) to add the character of phase dispersion to any sound by using a convolver IR of a short sine sweep. May save some cpu cycles and/or cash if you don’t want to shell out for disperser or to use one of the other DIY approaches (ie stacked multiband sends or stacked exciters). Check it out if you like
Good for “wet” dubstep basses, etc. To me it sounds best when used without dry signal, but dry mix can be added back in to taste. Sometimes bringing the color slider up a touch will help mitigate any excessive bass. Obviously use your ears Change the resample rate for shorter or longer sweeps.

How do i use Sample FX "Yxx" command to only hit a sample on the 4th play?
i’m trying to replicate a very specific feature of certain devices, which will make a sample only play on the 4th replay. how do i make this happen, please? Y50 is all about probability so it won’t necessarily hit on the 4th.
i’d really like to not have to make a long phrase out of this or make a 64 row pattern a 256 row pattern just so the sample would play on the 4th “play”.
what’s the right way, renoisewise?

Setting up keyboard shortcut to enable/disable specific DSP
I have a usb footpedal that can configure to any key, is there an easy way to setup a keyboard shortcut to enable/disable a specific effect? Ideally turn one off and turn one on at the same time with the ability to once again turn off one effect and turn the other back on.
It’s to swap between two amp sims clean/distortion or two enable pedal fx.

Issue selecting correct program from my Casio keyboard
Hello,
I’m trying to use Renoise to control a CASIO keyboard. I’m having trouble getting access to all the sounds in the keyboard using the MIDI tab with the output controls. For example, if I look at the tone list in the manual for the keyboard, I see these two options:
Tone 342 (WARM PAD) is program 89, MSB bank 1, LSB bank 0
Tone 343 (FAT SAW PAD) is program 89, MSB bank 2, LSB bank 0
In the MIDI output control, if I select the right program (for some reason I have to select 90, not 89), I will get the WARM PAD sound. But no matter how I manipulate the bank setting or the LSB/MSB setting, I can never get the FAT SAW PAD sound. Changing the bank makes no difference. Therefore, the FAT SAW PAD tone is not accessible to me, which is frustrating!
If I send MIDI date from the keyboard to Renoise, the settings in the MIDI output controls will change in real time when I turn the knob. But when I switch between these two tones, the program just stays at 90 and nothing in the bank setting changes.
Can anyone offer any guidance? How can I make Renoise send the bank change so I can access all my sounds?
Thanks!

Amiga tuning file
Does somebody has a Amiga tracker tuning file? I think this was in Soundtracker and Protracker, pitches were rounded to integer values or something…? Ah maybe that doesn’t work with a tuning file?

Drag And Drop Samples from Instrument List to Convolver DSP
Hello again!
It would be helpful to add the ability to send samples from the browser (instrument box) to the convolver, making it easier and faster to work with impulse responses. Additionally, it would be great to have the option to transfer samples created or loaded in VST instruments directly to the browser (instrument box) for better organization and workflow efficiency.
Thank you!

Windows: Strange ROLAND ZENOLOGY VST issue I've had for the longest time now
Whenever I open the Zenology VST window and move my mouse cursor onto it while the song is playing, Renoise starts to lag like crazy, and when I move my mouse cursor away from the Zenology window and back to Renoise, the lag completely stops.
I almost didn’t make this post because it feels like such a super obscure issue, but I’d appreciate any help or suggestions.
Here’s a short video of what it looks like: FbShare - View uploads
This doesn’t happen with NI Kontakt, UVI Workstation, Arturia Analog Lab or any other VST “portal”. It’s just Zenology.
I’m running the latest version of Renoise and Zenology on up to date Windows 11. 4090 / i9 / 64gb.
