Simple improvement of midi input devices prefs
Not sure if I already posted this…
I think Renoise MIDI mapping / input devices preferences very easily could be improved by:
- Adding 2-4 more slots
- Greying out not connected devices. So if you connected “Roland A-49”, but now disconnected it, the slot still will show “Roland A-49”, but greyed out. You then still can select the slot and choose another one. But this would reflect what is actually happening under the hood - remembering last connected devices.
Then you wouldn’t accidently overwrite slots which actually remembering lost devices.
Instead of greying out, there could be a prefixed star in the name instead or similar…

How to convert a sample into a manually chopped phrase in renoise using SXX commands
Say I have one instrument loaded into a sample, which is beatsynced to the tempo.
I want to be able to automatically chop the sample so that the sample is converted into a phrase that is chopped using the SXX commands in a way that plays the orignal sample all the way thru… I.e. every line in the phrase is populated with the sample and the SXX corresponding to the line of the original sample.
sample in track without any slices:
sample in phrases section converted to SXX:
I could probably do this manually, but would like to be able to do this without using too much math

Automating changing a plugin's MIDI channel
I did a quick search and didn’t find anything recent (mostly from 2010-2018), so I just wanted to ask for clarification.
Just switched because I prefer the tracker style workflow over piano roll/playlist, but the one bonus in the piano roll was that you could apply specific MIDI channel routing to each note, which I don’t see here.
It’s not a big issue for me, since I have experience with 90s/00s MIDI workflow, and if I were routing out to something like a Sound Canvas or JD-990 I’d rather have 16 distinct tracks anyway; however, I have a handful of those old Kontakt libraries where they spread out an entire instrument into multiple .nki files, so you end up multiracking the basic notes with effect notes, and use the midi channels to control them.
Like with an external board, I’m completely fine with just separating them into unique tracks, but just for the sake of workflow (and maybe memory, since multiple instances of kontakt can add up), is there a way to automate/change MIDI channels for plugins on the fly?
Thanks in advance, love the program.

Can I cut a loop in equal parts in redux?
Never was much into loop/break mangling, but now kind off wondering how I can slice a loop in redux into 8 or 16 equal parts, so I can place the notes with slicenumbers in the pattern editor and than apply effect commands and reorder/retrigger parts?
how is this done?

Renoise as Rewire slave for Reaper : can I get MIDI from Reaper into Renoise?
Hi,
I’m using Renoise as a Rewire slave in Reaper, and noticed the Renoise-Rewire VST in Reaper has a “MIDI send to Rewire” tab. I assume that means I can send MIDI from Reaper to Renoise (whilst I’m getting Renoise’s audio into Reaper). But… I can’t find the way to get the MIDI information from Reaper to Renoise.
Is there any way to do it? I actually found a topic where this precise question was answered negatively by Taktik, but that was fourteen years ago. Any chance it changed since then?
Thanks !

Soundcloud next pro, distrokid any users here?
Hello,
I’m considering a soundcloud next pro account for pushing stuff to streaming services and am wondering if there are people here using it and what their experience are with it? Thanks to the legendary gift from @Conner_Bw I’ve enjoyed a pro account for many years in the past, but at that time there weren’t any further streaming options available besides the soundcloud page itself.
I’ve considered distrokid in the past, being cheap , but am seeing conflicting opinions on youtube. There are a few things I worry about when uploading through such services;
In the past I have released a lot of music as 'creative commons share a like non commercial’ & variations of this for creators to use in their work (videos, games, remixes etc) through the freemusic archive. Will uploading to streaming services like spotify, youtube music, potentially block the work which have used it?
What happens when you don’t update your soundcloud & distrokid account, will all the music be pulled off, any grace period or immediately? Same for false positives on used samples, I’ve seen some horror stories where tracks were removed from releases because of bogus copyright claims and the troubles one has to go through to get it fixed.
Any experiences, tips, alternatives are welcome!

How does one make a macOS KeyBindings compatible with Windows?
I use bunches and bunches of CMD-shortcuts, and i’m wondering what would happen if i just took the keyBindings.xml and changed all the CMD-shortcuts into ALT-shortcuts. Would that then be a “Windows KeyBindings.xml”?
I’d love any inputs.

I found there’s a “Sample List” Menu Entry possibility. Where is this visible from?

Endless Darkness by Divine Electronics
My latest track made with Renoise. This is mostly driven by Surge VST and, even more importantly, the Virus TI emulator by the Usual Suspects. No hardware this time, I think.
Renoise-wise, I mostly used some favourite sequencing tricks that I’ve been using since 1998 on Fast Tracker2… well, we didn’t have convolvers back then, nor fx chains… eh forget I ever said anything

'The Hum' phenomena
Anybody else have experience of this???My first time hearing it,3.40 am here in Dublin and it’s intermittent.Very very deep maybe 30 to 40 hz max.It sounds like it’s coming from the earth to me,I dunno how to describe it,it sounds massive, like it’s made by something that is colossal. Not going to lie it’s kind of creepy. You know in some movies where a gigantic monster or something is approaching and you hear this thundering sub as it walks along,it’s like that.only the duration changes.

Clipping in exported WAV file (with low volume and enough headroom)
I never had this issue with older versions of Renoise (don’t know exactly when it started) but pretty much everything I export gets some clipping (hard annoying ticks in the file).
If I put the volume way down I don’t get this issue but the exported file is not loud enough.
I can see with Audacity that there is more than enough headroom. I can use the Amplify option of Audacity to get a decent boost in volume but I noticed I then lose some quality of the original file.
Why can’t Renoise just export the file as is? In Renoise the max volume bar comes about half way (max).
There is no clipping whatsoever in Renoise but the exported file has it every time unless I really lower volume to nothing.
What can I do?

These 2 colour Editor ideas can be game-changer for Renoise?
Hi guys
I beliebe I’ve found the best way you can use current Renoise tracker state and with minimal programming edits you can finally create horisontal and vertical tracker editor, based on my 2 ideas. Take a look:
ReNoise-EditorIdea01-Vertical.jpg
and:
ReNoise-EditorIdea02-Horizontal.jpg
You could switch between default (vertical) and horizontal tracker editor by hitting F1. It might just switch modes. As a heavy tracker fan, I believe that Implementing horizontal tracker layout might attract new Fruity-loops / others customers…
I applied graphics in Photoshop based on my current Renoise 3.1.1 (X64) tracker (because it is the last version that works with old 32bit plugins).
Imagine if you can scale tracker width and height with mouse wheel & ALT keys combination.
The same way vertical and horizontal arranger can be made. This way everything will be much easier to arrange (colours are just example).
Any comments might help in probably future Renoise development. Yes, I admit it is a bit hard(er) to arrange song with current Tracking possibilities. Horisontal arrangment could help a lot but if it is not planned at all (and why not?) - those two Photoshop mockups might be the easiest way to implemet “notes” - colours of your choice between start note and off notes.
Thanx. Nykk.

Installing tools by dragging to window - Ubuntu 24.04 Renoise 3.4.4
Hello,
Ubuntu 24.04
Renoise 3.4.4 x86_64
I am unable to install any tool by dragging the .xrnx to an open Renoise window. Nothing happens when the file is dropped on the Renoise window.
If I open the .xrnx with Renoise the tool installs fine. However this does not work when tools are not properly wrapped (e.g. Unless tools like command palette, line grab, beat select etc) as these just appear in a standard folder format accessible by a standard file browser.
Thanks
