Redux: Set sampler voices to 1/mono

Renoise Forum - September 27, 2023 - 05:15

Wanna use redux as a mono voice sampler sequenced via midi in my DAW and not phrases. can’t seem to find a way to set the samplers voice count to 1 so it cuts playback on a new note. I’ve read some discussion on this forum about this from 2015 but uhhhhh anyway to do this yet?

How to create exponential rhythms like Mr. Bill?

Renoise Forum - September 27, 2023 - 00:56

Does anyone here know of a way besides automating tempo or LPB to create “exponential rhythms” like Mr. Bill shows in this video (well, he shows how to do it in Ableton)? I know it’s probably doable using phrases with different LPB, but I’d like to know if there’s a way to do it in the pattern editor too.

Probably the most creative song you will see here this week!

Renoise Forum - September 26, 2023 - 19:19

I started creating this in march and it is finally finished.

Finished! My own diy animatronic show. Done with open source software and renoise. Unlisted version.

Its a raw video clip because this one has Renoise in it. The final clip will have the laptop moved into the studio together with the other pc what is playing the music you will hear live!

I’m triggering it using OSC server and VLC Web.

I hope you like it!!

I created a brand new, pretty helpful BPM calculator with many features

Renoise Forum - September 24, 2023 - 06:11

My other software was a failure; I should think of others rather than what I found back then good or useful, and I was an idiot. So I got digging and researching, and I think I’m the only one who made something like this. What it does is let you pick three options at the beginning of a terminal window.

[1] Enter Millisecond(s)-per-beat to get statistics
[2] Enter Beat(s)-per-second to get statistics
[3] Enter Beat(s)-per-minute to get statistics

If you pick [1], enter Millisecond(s)-per-beat to get statistics, and you enter the number 500. This is what it’ll show you.

[R]edo or [Q]uit?

You get the idea. If you want 4 beats per second in the second option, just type in and enter 4 when you pick that option. If you want BPM statistics, type in the BPM value. Decimals are also allowed. And I put no limit on how high it can go, only what the computer can handle; it also handles negative numbers just for fun, I guess. It also goes up to 256 lines per beat just for the sake of completion; I think what you’d want is up to 64. Anyways, The calculations are seemingly instant, and I ran it on a netbook, and on Linux, the software uses 4.0 KB of RAM. I’m sure someone can find this useful; I sometimes like messing with it. A Linux executable is included with the source code. So if you want to run it on Windows or macOS, you’d have to compile it yourself.

I played a while with “Home Design 3D” app and I spent some really good and fun time. Motivation to “play this game” was - recreating my family’s home at current state (with all stuff scattered around and non designed / finished parts of the house) just for fun. So here is Youtube video (with my Renoise composed song “Tribute to Amiga” I composed long time ago, playing in the background, just to avoid silence):

Nykk's Penthouse (Current State) with Transparent Lights created in Home Design 3D app just for fun

You can download full project for free with all transparency (If you need PSD files - let me know, I will share them with you) and import it right now in Home Design 3D app (it works on PC (Steam), Mac, iOS and Android). No Amiga app at current state

homedesign3d.net Nykk-Penthouse - Current State

Created by Nykk.

Phase 1 is finished - recreating a bit of complex penthouse with current software limitations was a great fun for me. Phase 2 will be - add some rooms above and see how it will look… Phase 3 - create our dream house. Whatever - it was just for fun, especially knowing that this software is basically a game that works great on all platforms

I made a doofer for quarter notes/microtones/arabic scales

Renoise Forum - September 22, 2023 - 16:06

Hey! I was trying the past day to mimic the specific feature of “oriental” keyboards which allows you to lower certain notes in every octave by a quarter tone, thus enabling usage of Arabic/Iranian/Indian scales. To my surprise, Renoise comes with a crazy meta instrument called Formula so I could scribble some Lua and get it done!

Here’s a screenshot because I feel like nothing is real if it doesn’t have an image attached:

This means that D will be lowered by 1/4 tone in all octaves, letting us play on Maqam Bayat (intervals: ¾ ¾ 1 1 ½ 1 1). How the hell does that mean D? Well, I couldn’t find a nice way for you to specify note information, so the next best thing I came up with is the following weird numeric representation of notes on the 0..1 range provided by the macros:

0.01 => C 0.02 => C# 0.03 => D 0.04 => D# 0.05 => E 0.06 => F 0.07 => F# 0.08 => G 0.09 => G# 0.10 => A 0.11 => A# 0.12 => B

In order for an instrument to be controllable by this doofer, it’ll have to have a macro controlling a pitch modulation, preferably an operand but idk do whatever you want!

This is how it sounds like, and this is the modulation macro required for it to function:

Quarters doofer required modulation settings

(I love that the sound came out completely shat upon. sorry first time OBS here)

Moving forward, I wanna automate somehow the process of adding the pitch modulation, which feels a bit like a hack of itself, which I resorted to merely because I couldn’t find a way to finetune an instrument on the fly via a normal effect.

Anyway, hope you like it

TRACKERCORPS: A discord community for tracker and breakbeat nerds

Renoise Forum - September 22, 2023 - 16:06

Hello, friends! Hope you’re all doing great.

In 2021, @AmaneOG + @Cubeinthebox and other few friends started a Discord server called “Renoise Breakcore”.

The server kept growing until, two years later (2023), we managed to organize a 15 track compilation (with over 40 submissions): Trackercorps Vol. 1

Now, after months of thought and a short rest, we decided to broaden up the server theme to include other trackers and music genres aside from Renoise and Breakcore. In other words, we’re now officially TRACKERCORPS.

The main goal of the community is to gather tracker aficionados in a friendly atmosphere, focusing on collaborative efforts:

  • teaching and learning tracker and dsp techniques;
  • running compilations and competitions;
  • making collabs;
  • exchanging mods and other files (samples, instruments, presets, etc);
  • discussing other interests, such as films, books, series, games, etc.

We also have an under-construction database of tracker related content, including sample packs, tips and tricks, etc (just ask).

If you’re chill and interested in being part of our community, feel free to follow the invite link:

Discord Join the TRACKERCORPS Discord Server!

TRACKERCORPS: home of tracker music nerds and breakbeat chopping weirdos! | 223 members

By the way, we’re already planning Trackercorps Vol. 2 compilation.
Stay tuned (submissions NOT open yet). More info in this topic soon!

Disclaimer:
This is a very diverse server, with all kinds of people from different corners of the world, so avoid politics and other polemic/controversial topics, please! That said, we do not tolerate racism, homophobia or any other discrimination. Be nice to others, promote peace, discuss music and make some noise!

Renoise Acceptable BPM Finder Calculator

Renoise Forum - September 21, 2023 - 08:53

A stand-alone BPM tool I made.

Type in Ceiling Percentage of Desired Tempo Speed (25.000-97.5%)
Then it will show the results of base BPM for 4 lines per beat, next it will show also, Low-Mid BPM, Mid BPM and Max BPM related to the base BPM. Then it will tell you if you want to restart the process or quit. The source code is included and an executable for Linux. It’s just a simple calculator. I wish I knew the importance of Tempo sooner because I was always listening to Speedcore/Splitter/Extratone, but then I grew out of it and could actually FEEL music music that’s not too fast. 62.5 - 243.75 BPM is the minimum and max it will find.

Live sequencing with phrase mode and MIDI/OSC program change messages

Renoise Forum - September 20, 2023 - 08:34

As it seems like Duplex and GridPie are no longer maintained, I wanted to find a way to do live sequencing with no reliance on tools or scripts. What I came up with:

  • Create a single, looped pattern, representing a 4 or 8 bar block, with a single note-on right at the top of each track (one per instrument)
  • Create the actual sequences you want as 4 or 8 bar phrases within each instrument
  • Set all instruments to program mode in the phrase controls
  • In every instrument, include a “mute” phrase consisting of just a note off in every column

Press play, and use MIDI or OSC program change messages to change the active phrase for each instrument, and every time the pattern loops, all the currently active phrases will trigger, giving you live, synchronised sequence switching. Make sure you turn off autoseek inside each phrase, to stop it switching sequences mid-pattern as soon as you send a program change. Switch to the “mute pattern” for synchronised mutes; for instant mutes use OSC track mute messages or map MIDI CCs to the the track mute buttons (with Renoise in its default “soft mute” mode, this will mute by sending note off to all notes in a track, rather than immediately silencing it).

If you know how a Keystep sequencer works, the end result kind of behaves like that, just without pattern chaining abilities (you can only set the next active phrase, not queue up multiple phrases; though you could combine this technique with OSC pattern sequence messages if you want to get advanced).

I used TouchOSC on a Raspberry Pi to drive percussion and strings for this track using this technique. You can see it on screen in the second video (use chapters to skip to it).

Visual Toolbar | Native DSP

Renoise Forum - September 18, 2023 - 15:20

Hello guys,

I start making some tools for fun and why not

Me and my friends are tested , so its work flawless for now.
It is a visual toolbar like in Reaper. But im not a programmer scripter, so i have some problems with my features to deal with. Maybe someone can help me a little if you have some time.

First i realise there is no way to use colored button images. Right ? its always based on the Theme colors.
I want the rollover state to be colored images. Thats looks awesome. Or maybe colored version all the time.
Is there any trick that can help me about that ? Maybe a bitmap and a button in overlay with alpha…

Another thin is is i can’t resize the Button images to fit smaller or bigger sizes. it would be awesome i can do that for smaller screen users.
here is the Tool itself so you can check them out., happy using…

com.hotelsinus.VisualToolbarNativeDSP_V1.xrnx (144.7 KB)

I also made a VST effect version, and Instrument versions. So its three Visual Browser, but the VST version is need to setup by users… but maybe i can create a workaround for that… but its too hard coz every artist has its own VST as u know…

Thank you for your time
have a Good ReNoisey day…

Elgato Stream Deck users - possible fix? (MIDI)

Renoise Forum - September 17, 2023 - 21:14

Hi - I read on this site that the Stream Deck does not work with Renoise (normal keypresses are reported as not being recognised)

I am thinking as an alternative solution, rather than sending keypresses, maybe send midi commands?

Perhaps Trevliga Spel’s free Stream Deck plugin could be setup to send the appropriate MIDI command instead via a custom profile? It looks very capable. Any Stream Deck users out there - would this work in theory, or has it been solved already?

Not exactly sure what I was doing, I tried processing a 1 minute sample in the sample editor using the fx button, Then previewed another model on top of the result if I remember correctly. It isn’t the latest version though, so I’ll try installing it and see if I can replicate (windows 10).

Pattern Split+ No longer works (By bleego)

Renoise Forum - September 14, 2023 - 00:36

It seems after version 3.1 or so this tool no longer works. It’s incredible useful and I’m disheartened by the fact it doesn’t function anymore. Would love it if the original author bleego or someone else could get this working. It’s above my programming knowledge, which is pretty much none. HAHA

That is, if the mouse is over the widget, it creates a notifier.

Duplex: Some NRPN questions

Renoise Forum - September 11, 2023 - 18:33

I’m dabbling with a Duplex integration for Allan & Heath Qu series mixers, but not making too much progress so far. I’ve no prior MIDI protocol knowledge so it’s a bit of learning curve

Firstly,
I typed out a whole load of stuff for my first question but I’ve rubber ducked that one (Need to generate the NRPN with (MSB<<7 | LSB) rather than <<8 by the looks of it.

Secondly,
The fader value is just a 0-127 in the data MSB, and the LSB is always 0. Is there currently a way to configure such a thing on a control. If I set mode abs_7 it will just send the MSB and no LSB packet. Else I may need to add a new PARAM_MODE to Duplex.

thanks

Roland Alpha Juno style "What The?" patch

Renoise Forum - September 11, 2023 - 15:01

Alpha Juno What The v0_5.xrni (16.0 KB)

Roland Alpha Juno “What The?” patch, created by me.

8 Macro controls, wish we had more macro slots, but here we are. “PWM” rate and Depth, Pitch bend decay timing, Amp Env Attack, Combined Decay/Release, Sustain, HPF and Chorus Depth/Feedback. Set to mono with a slow glide time (change glide time from G01 which is VERY slow, to GFF which is instant in the instrument, next to where Mono button is, I’ve set it to G20) however I’m not sure how to recreate the mono legato style playback when playing the keys to the pattern editor, except to use lots of Gxx commands to glide to note - if anyone could help that would be good.

Included is a sub-osc square wave set to minus 24 Semitones.

Sounds sort-of, kind-of like it to me - to say we can’t PWM in the sampler in my humble opinion. Use a base to improve by all means, would be keen to see what people make with it.
