Behringer synth USB/midi connection problems

Renoise Forum - October 16, 2023 - 18:24

Good morning, I have a problem with the Behringer modules (model d, pro 1, wasp, cat) I connected the synthesizers via USB cable. I set a different midi channel on each module. This configuration works fine on other Daw but on Renoise it doesn’t. It only recognizes one synthesizer, 3 others don’t. Has anyone had the same problem? thank you for all the information you give me, see you soon Leonardo

Parameter automation "overrides"?

Renoise Forum - October 16, 2023 - 03:54

Suppose I have a filter with a 5kHz cutoff, but I want to set it to 1kHz for a few lines. If I insert commands to set it to 1kHz and then 5kHz, all of the lines before the first command will also be 1kHz, so I need to insert a 5kHz command before the 1kHz as well. Not only that, but if I decide I want the rest of the song to actually be at 7kHz, I have to go back and change both the ‘before’ and ‘after’ command. The behavior I’d like is that I can insert a command to temporarily set the parameter to 1kHz, similar to how the volume/pan columns only set the parameter for that one line, and not have to worry about what the old value is.

I can somewhat get this behavior by actually having two filters and turning them on and off, labeling them ‘normal filter’ and ‘temporary high-pass’ or whatever, but that seems clunky. Any suggestions?

I need all useful suggestions for a new Ultimate calculator app

Renoise Forum - October 15, 2023 - 20:59

Okay, so guys, dish out all the helpful features of a calculator? I am getting the hang of programming a multi-purpose calculator, but it would be non-xrnx. I don’t think an xrnx file would work well unless there’s way too many windows that pop up in Renoise, it’ll be very strange to implement. Plus I was making a separate app before that one I posted a while ago that I sent, that actually tunes the C-4 Key of an A-4 Key reference tuning original key and you can get the fine-tune value to adjust, I actually don’t know how useful that is actually, probably it’s a stupid idea, I guess I was just having fun with it. If you use specific types of calculators yourself, anywhere online or anywhere else strictly for music. Tell me what they are. And of course you can trust my bin files, why would I screw up my Renoise Forum Account and my registration? I read that reply somewhere on one of those posts. When I was a teenager I wanted to make viruses, now as a middle-aged man, I want to dish out free apps. I made an Ultimate Password Generator, a Cipher/Decipher app among other things. I just wish I had a Mac and a Windows computer, so I can make sure they’re bug free. >_< I would suggest dual-booting with the distro AntiX Linux which I use, you can use Windows VSTs on it through a wrapper. And This AntiX on a netbook boots on a 5,400 RPM hard-drive like UEFI booting. It’s pretty damn fast and Windows 10 took forever to boot on this thing that I use. And it’s actually more useful than Windows. And very snappy and responsive on this low-grade machine I use. If you don’t want to dual-boot, I guess an VM emulator? LMFAO! where am I even going with this? okay, bye.

Midi Import does not import chords

Renoise Forum - October 15, 2023 - 19:11

Not sure, if already reported, but Renoise does not seem to be able to import chord tracks. Only one note will be imported then.

Problem with Native Instruments - Picked Acoustic

Renoise Forum - October 13, 2023 - 20:41

I wonder if this a Renoise or Picked Acoustic bug, whenever I put a NI - Picked acoustic note (default chord loop pattern on either Kontakt 6 Full or 7 Player) on the first line of a pattern, it plays correctly the first time, but when the pattern loops back to the beginning, it suddenly stops playing and won’t start playing again as long as the song is playing. If I put it on the second row, it plays normally for the first time, but then instead of keeping the loop playing, it stops when it gets to the first row, but then starts again when it gets to the second row.

The problem is only with the first pattern of the song, if I make a multipattern song where the note is always in the first row, the song plays correctly until it reaches the end and loops back to the beginning, it will not play the first note, but when the library is triggered for the second time, it starts playing again. So If I make a song with two patterns and the note is on the first row of every pattern, the first time it plays both patterns correctly, but with the second loop it stops and will not play anything during the first pattern, but starts when it reaches the first row of the second pattern. If I make a one pattern song, it plays correctly the first time and after it stops you never hear it making any sound again unless the song is stopped and started again.

I can’t replicate this in Studio One, it works correctly every time. I also played with all the settings of the library and with renoise track delay settings etc. but nothing seemed to work.

Latest Renoise, latest Windows 11, latest everything.

Need help with basic midi-out settings

Renoise Forum - October 13, 2023 - 20:12

I’ve bought 30 year old Roland Alpha Juno-2.
Basically what i want to do seems very simple: i want to create a sequence in Renoise and have it played by the juno-2.

The juno-2 is connected by a midi cable to my arturia essential 61. When i play something on the Arturia, it will play a preset of the juno-2. So far so good, but i haven’t figured out the proper midi settings. Both are at midi channel 1.

In the midi-section in Renoise: what should be my midi-out? If i select the Arturia, i will not hear the juno-2 when i play a pattern in Renoise. I can also choose ‘Arturia Midiout2’ but that also does not work either. I’m not seeing any midi-out output in the midi-section.

What am i missing here?
And is it also possible to reroute the audio back into Renoise so i can add fx to the juno-2?

Thinking about probability (Yxx)

Renoise Forum - October 10, 2023 - 13:53

Hello!

I’d like to initiate a discussion about the probability parameter. It seems to me that this feature could be expanded to offer more variations instead of just a simple percentage ratio during playback. In essence, the probability setting could be adjusted in percentages as one option, ranging from Y00 to Y0F, for example.

The other values, for instance, could represent scenarios of quantity and timing of occurrences, similar to how it’s implemented in some other tools, such as from Y20 to Y2F or from Y30 to Y3F, etc.

The idea here is that this would significantly enhance the diversity within a pattern when using Renoise in a live performance and when exercising more precise control while working with phrases.

Thank you!

Unusable in Fullscreen

Renoise Forum - October 9, 2023 - 18:47

Hi, hope this was not reported so far.

Im on a 2019 Intel Macbook Pro 16 and as soon as i open renoise in fullscreen it stops responding to inputs.
It then runs on like 2-3 Seconds per Frame and is overall unusable. The moment i put it back to window mode it works perfectly fine.

If i can help reproduce it or debug it in any way i would be glad to help.

Need help with Groups in Duplex

Renoise Forum - October 9, 2023 - 02:46

I’m working on a Duplex setup for an APC40MkII, and are making quite good progress, but have been stuck fiddeling with groups for the entire day.
One thing I want to achieve is having the SHIFT button act as, well, a shift button, giving temporary functionality to some buttons. Having them in toggle mode works fine, but I’ve only got it to work partially as a momentary button.
With the groups set up like this, it shows only GroupA when starting and only GroupB when pressing shift, but upon releasing shift, it instead of showing GroupA shows no Group. And this behavior is only from the APC, using the Duplex Window controlls works correctly.

...

Any ideas on how to fix it? More info on how different types and exclusive works would also be greatly appreciated. There are some other quirks I prob need help solving, but lets start with this one.

Somehow I can’t even get close to it,

New tool (3.4.3): Travel Through Phrases v1.0 build 046 (October 2023)

Renoise Forum - October 7, 2023 - 22:42
1. What is “Travel Through Phrases” or “TTP”?

The Travel Through Phrases, also known as TTP, is a powerful and lightweight «dual data direction tool module» oriented for browsing, listening, creating, cloning, direct recording and configuration of instrument phrases from the Pattern Editor with multiple utilities, such as importing to phrase from the current line, importing to phrase by selection or even by adaptive live recording, allowing moving or copying data and even compress them (remove unnecessary note columns or empty lines, or even add final lines to complete the last step). It is also built to be able to deposit entire phrases into the Pattern Editor from the current line and the current note column, even in a continuous loop, thus providing a «two-way data system» between the Pattern Editor and the Phrase Editor of Renoise.

It offers multiple control capabilities, both for keyboard commands (specially designed for them), and for the mouse through a compact floating window (with click, double click and wheel), as well as for MIDI input (focused for a 16-pad MIDI pad or similar). The TTP tool is exclusive for the Renoise DAW (64 bit, v3.4.3) or future versions.

Travel Through Phrases. An original tool for Renoise.

On the other hand, the Travel Through Phrases has unique features thanks to its «Phrase Monitor» panel, such as the thumbnail view of the current phrase, an instrument browser, a phrase browser, an agile mobile browser of phrases for previewing, a bar comparator on quantities of lines of the pattern-track of the Pattern Editor and the phrase, which allows better control of the loop copy. Additionally, the Phrase Monitor panel allows you to easily edit the properties of each phrase with the mouse wheel, including a quick timer to change a specific property across multiple phrases, such as the phrase’s «LPB» value or the «Base Note» of the phrase. All of this allows for more skillful visual and listening control on instruments with a large number of phrases, compared to Renoise‘s Phrase Editor and its own browser.

In addition, the «MIDI Input Controls» panel offers customizable and fixed profiles that change the complete configuration of the entire Pad x16 in a single step, allowing these profiles to be changed on the fly. This design allows you to quickly change all settings on the linked USB MIDI pad controller, without the need to re-route MIDI links.

In short, with all this arsenal of specific options, Travel Through Phrases is a powerful tool, designed by and for the management of phrases, being able to skillfully use the Phrase Editor as if it were a data repository, even similar to a multiple clipboard, allowing not only to easily create new phrases, but also to get rid of them by depositing all the information in the Pattern Editor, resulting in a very practical and flexible 2 in 1.

This is another multi-tool for Renoise created and programmed by ulneiz that also includes a sponsor, which means that it has received previous support and encouragement from the «Community of Renoise» to be able to start developing it. This unified tool brings together most of the features requested by other composers for working with phrases and the Pattern Editor. Thank you very much for facilitating the expansion of Renoise with its ecosystem of Lua tools!

Workaround for VST window keyboard midi focus problem on Linux

Renoise Forum - October 6, 2023 - 11:40

Hi
I’ve made a very simple script to help with the problem where when you’re focused on the VST window on Linux you can’t play midi notes with the keyboard.

It requires python and the sendmidi application to be installed. By default it sends messages to “Renoise MIDI in Port A”

Basically it reads codes directly from the /dev/input in your system. You have to change it in the script to your keyboard path.

You “chmod +x” it and run it as sudo, and press F12 to toggle enabling it.

All these details are inside the code:
https://pastebin.com/TALuA2hT

I hope it’ll be helpful. If anyone needs some fixes for it or additions let me know.

Edit:
I’ve noticed there’s another one below! Sorry for the double. Mine works a bit differently so maybe it will also be useful.
