Recording multiple samples at once
@zbouboutchi wrote:
Hi,
I often record instruments with Renoise, hopefully I’m almost always alone, but when playing with friends I can only record 1 sample at a time.
When a I record mono instruments (mic, guitar for instance), I can cheat and route the 2 inputs in a stereo input and then split it in two mono samples, but that’s no more scalable.
I think with some adjustments on the actual record control can handle that. A + button to add more sources, and for each source a new sample output next to the current one in the current instrument would do the trick… ( a little warning if that overwrite an existing one… and go ! )
I have no idea of the complexity of the code behind that… It’s only an idea, I don’t crave for this functionality… So, feel free to bypass
Christophe.

Instruments with DSP chains can, like plugins, only be played back in one track at a given time - help please!
@brinemeister wrote:
My aim is to set up drumkit instruments on my pads, with more than one sample layered per pad.
My problem is that I want to EQ and process each layer separately so that the separate drum sounds can be ‘mushed’, ‘squashed’ together into one fatter sound nicely.
I was going to do this in sample FX chains but I have realized there is a limitation that you cannot playback samples with FX chains contained within one instrument on multiple tracks simultaneously.
“instruments with DSP chains can, like plugins, only be played back in one track at a given time”
This generally shouldnt be a major problem because most of the breakbeats style drumming is linear drumming…one drum sound at a time, but I have gven it some thought and decided that I would like to get around this limitation anyway because, on occasion, I may want to play for example, a hihat and a kick together or a hihat and a snare together.
I still want to have each type of drum sample on a separate track so that I can process them separately.
With only one sample per drum this is not a problem because I can simply put EQs, compressors and some other FX into the track which a particular drum type sample is on.
However I am confused about what to do when ‘squashing’, ‘mushing’ two drum samples together. I cannot use sample FX chains to EQ and compress them together because then I will not be able to play drum sounds from a particular instrument simultaneously in separate tracks.
If I want to EQ and compress two or more drum sounds together into one fat drum sound per drumpad within one instrument ( for example, a single hit from a break ‘mushed’ together with a synthesized kick, snare or FM hihat? ) and I also want to have the option to playback these sounds simultaneously whilst not being inside the same track, what should I do?
I am really perplexed about this…sorry if this is a noobish question. What should I do?

Looped sample preview
@U4iC wrote:
Had to go back to try Renoise 2.8 again to be sure I wasn’t losing my mind.
My old workflow included a sample editor that I could select a section and playback looped. I thought this was a part of Renoise, so coming back after a little hiatus without my external editors I’m a little shocked that waveform previewing is so limited. I would like an option to:
- Have the ability to midi map the sample preview play button in waveform view
- Have the ability to loop the selection of sample in waveform view (for dialing in on perfect loops/single cycles)
Should be pretty easy to drop into the next version =). Haven’t seen this request yet.

Bad recording quality
@feudikbenson wrote:
I’m getting serious about recording vocals and some other things using a mic. I am running arch linux with a real time kernel, an external soundcard (Scarlett 2in2) and a sE X1 mic. The resulting sounds has lots of pollution. Where it comes from I don’t know. I have tried changing the settings for Sample rate and Buffer size and it clearly affects it to the worse. It seems hard to find the correct setting. Since I’m completely new to this I think it is more likely that I have missed something essential. Any directions as where to go now would be appreciated.
I am pretty certain that the issue is renoise related since recording with audacity works like a charm.

Before I buy: ASIO and MIDI latency
@natraj wrote:
Hi!
I am currently evaluating Renoise. It’s a pity I can’t try ASIO, hope it does work with my interface (Behringer UMC 1820).
Is it possible, if using the ASIO driver, to use more than one Line Input Channels at once? I need 16.
Also, using the MIDI latency correction “MIDI Return Mode” without ASIO has very bad results - the timing is more than 2 beats off, too much for the ±100ms delay that is adjustable. Hope this works better with ASIO?
Thanks in advance!

Renoise with Tascam US-16x08
@liimo wrote:
Hi,
I’m slowly creeping into modular and would love to route everything into Renoise using multiple channels, for both sampling and live effects. Could anyone say if Tascam US-16x08 would fill the role, and if not, what does it lack? The helpful staff at thomann.de were utter barbarians and had no experience in Renoise.

How do YOU programme drums?
@fladd wrote:
There are at least 14 different ways to programme drums in the current version of Renoise:
-
Each sample in own instrument - one sample per track
-
Each sample in own instrument - all samples in one track
-
Each sample in own instrument - each sample in own phrase - one phrase per track
-
Each sample in own instrument - each sample in own phrase - all phrases in one track

-
All samples in one instrument - one sample per track (with routing sampler outputs to different tracks)
-
All samples in one instrument - all samples in one track

I like to be able to mix my drums in the mixer, hence I used to do 6, but since I might want to convert my drum patterns into phrases to be used in Redux in Reaper, I am currently leaning towards 8.
Which one do you use? I am curious. Pros and Cons?

Tonelib VST Plugin
@lilith wrote:
Just tested the Tonelib effects in Debian Stretch and it works perfectly. Very very cool and a real alternative to Guitarix. The effects sound really good!
If the installer doesn’t work, just extract the zips and look for ToneLib-GFX.so file and put this in your /.vst folder.
Have fun!

I was thinking that being able to save an effectchain and then just say “new track using effect chain X” in the standard right click menu on the tracker would be bitchin’

Beautiful, Free, FM Synthesizers- Mac/PC/Linux
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
So, for those of you who are really into the older FM sounds of 90’s PC soundcards (OPL3, OPL2, others)
HOLY COW!
I didn’t see these mentioned. They work perfectly as Audio Units in my version of Renoise. Also, I haven’t noticed any lag. They don’t seem to use up much in the way of CPU, and they have 5 different processors to give you variations of the same sound.
I tried to use the JUCEOPL3 version, but was getting a ton of lag, and I then pestered the person who made it, but they’re not working on it at this time. They then suggested these:
GitHub jpcima/ADLplugFM Chip Synthesizer — OPL & OPN — VST/LV2/Standalone - jpcima/ADLplug
In the center of the page, they have a link for pre-made, ready-to-go plugins for just about any platform.
What is most notable is that they have a few different emulations of the chips. So, you can get some crystal clear or pretty lo-fi FM if you want.
Not just preset sounds here, either. Looks like you can change all of the sounds pretty drastically.

Renoise rewire / Cubase 10?
@Gella wrote:
Hey all, super quick question.
Can anybody confirm that they can rewire Renoise (Win x64) as a slave into into Cubase 10?
I tried this with an earlier version of Cubase but I could not get it to appear as in the Cubase rewire options.
Thank you!

Renoise rewire master
@joakim.gunnerud wrote:
Hi good people.this is my first post here, so let me introduce myself. I am a lad from Norway and been making music with trackers since protracker on the good old amiga, so yeah I am old:) I am using renoise as my main(only) daw at this point, that is if we do not consider that I from time to time play around with trackers on my c64 too :)… now I have the opportunity to actually get vocals to some of my beats made with reason and therefore I have to implement another tool for that job. Still want renoise to be my main tool all the way so I am now thinking that I will install another daw to my computer an rewire it as slave to renoise. I have 2 possible programs to choose between(i can get (legally off corse) free licenses from a friend. So the question is really this: do anybody know wich of these two would work best as rewired slave? : reason 7 or fl 20?? Thank you in advance good people for your thoughts, advice and help. Pace.

Minimal analog stereo mixer - not pots/faders - just 4 inputs and output
@remsky wrote:
Hello, I imagined and now I am looking for a small form factor, possibly battery powered, stereo audio mixer. With no faders or pots - just mixing as it is.
Reason for - all my audio gear already has one way or another some kind of output volume controls - no need to double them - just mix it.

From RENOISE to Logic to now RENOISE
@mpresev wrote:
I realized that the best songs and the most fun I had was using Renoise… Why? it’s the way we create tunes… I like that way of working… My mind is creative thinking about vertical sequencing. Plus?, I love step sequencing.
I’m back at it again… Next time, I’ll compose the songs off of RENOISE then bounce to audio and open on Logic.
I will be releasing my tunes as I used RENOISe… I want to give RENOISE credit because they changed how I produce tunes
