Web error logo "renoiseR" to "forum.renoise.com"

Renoise Forum - April 27, 2020 - 20:24

Web error when pressing the “renoiseR” logo from my user account in Google Chrome.

It seems that some error exists when trying to go to the main address of the page. This will also happen if you leave the main page, switch pages and hit “back” on the browser.

I don’t know if the same thing happens in other browsers, but I think it only happens from the user account, and the path seems fine: https://forum.renoise.com

Audio Interface - Linux

Renoise Forum - April 27, 2020 - 13:37

Hi to all Linux Renoisers,

I’m in search for a new audio interface and I wonder what you are using and how your experiences are.
It should be an USB interface with (if possbile) two inputs on the back and fully compatible with Linux.

The Audient ID4 looks fine, but it doesn’t have the two inputs at the back. Audient ID14 is not compatible as the mixer software does not run in Linux.

Other options:

Behringer U-Phoria (no inputs at the back, not the best quality?) - fully compatible

SSL or SSL+ (https://www.amazona.de/test-solid-state-logic-ssl-2-usb-audiointerface/) - does it run in Linux?

M-Audio Air series (https://www.amazona.de/test-m-audio-air-192-14-8-6-4-air-hub-usb-audiointerfaces/)

Roland Rubix (these work out of the box)

Customized touch sensitivity (Min-Max) per instrument

Renoise Forum - April 26, 2020 - 16:54

@Finnishcoffee wrote:

Greetings!
I have been searching the forum about this issue but couldnt find anything more recent then 2010 and that’s a looong time ago so here goes…

I use M-Audio key 69 and this keyboard has a superdynamic touch sensitivity. This is a problem when I use VST instruments with very different dynamics like kontakt voices and vst with synth sounds that doesnt even react to touch sensitivity.

In Reaper, you can control the min-max touch sensitivity sent to individual VST with 2 simple sliders. They will change the range of said MIDI input to anything you like between 0 - 127, solving the problem with VST dynamics differences.
I have yet to find this simple thing in ReNoise.

example:

kontakt Choir comes in very very soft when I press softly on my m-audios keys, being completely drowned in any VST that has strong audio no matter if you play soft or strong on the piano keys.
Here, it would be ideal to set the minimum velocity for the kontakt VST to something much higher like 64, even if I press soft enough that it produces a key velocity below it.

The same goes the other way around. Using orchastra full strings can sometimes be way to loud compared to a soft arp or similar. At that point, I want the touch sensitivity to only range between say 25 - 100 on the kontakt VST and maybe 75 - 127 on the arp VST.

This is easily accomplished with said item in reaper, but I cant find it in ReNoise.

I do just about all recording live, using “zones” on the m-audio to save time. This is why I’m asking.
Otherwise I could simply play one VST at the time and that has been my somewhat awkward workaround since that ruins the “feel” and rhythm of doing a live recording when you are inspired.

Best regards from Finland.

My OSC#134: Easter Lockdown contrib

hello there,

after a half a decade of renoise abstinence, i was looking for a cure for boredom during quarantine and found it in returning to what was once my greatest passion.
i needed something like a deadline so i took the chance on this month’s KVR one synth competition round.
this tune uses 10 instances of u-he’s hive2, no samples allowed as per the usual OSC rules.

this month’s rules also required you to incorporate synth “bird sounds” in any form into your track - just in case you were wondering why somebody would make an intro like this.

Plug&Mix VIP Bundle (huge discount right now)

Renoise Forum - April 26, 2020 - 03:50

@rainydayshirts wrote:

Plug&Mix has a Promo going on for the VIP Bundle. 50 stomp-box style plugins. Normally $249, now on Promo for $49. Picked it up yesterday. Opened them all in Renoise and played around. They all work without issue in Renoise. While some of them are already covered by Renoise DSPs, there are some sweet gem in this bundle, and even the ones that are redundant are still different from the Renoise DSPs. I’d say $100-250 would be worth it for the bundle, so getting it right now for $50 is a steal.

Great option for anyone that doesn’t have a lot of plugins or a tight budget looking for a grab bag of simple, easy to use FX.

Plug & Mix VIP Bundle

If you buy Plug & Mix V.I.P. bundle, then you are a "Very Intelligent Person". Each plug-in in the V.I.P. series costs only $49 individually, but when you purchase the Plug & Mix "V.I.P Bundle" you spend only $249 MSRP for the entire...

How do you get "normal" sounding instruments in Renoise?

Renoise Forum - April 25, 2020 - 03:44

@plast1c_tac0 wrote:

A lot of times when I practice chords or other things on the Midi controller, I want to use Renoise to play something, as it’s my main music software currently.

Many of the instruments and samples are great for the kind of music Renoise is known for, but sometimes too wacky to practice chords or melodies on. I often just want a boring piano, flute, organ, sax, or strings sound. These traditional instrument sounds are also good for me to brainstorm song ideas with or record the tracks in a “rough draft” manner.

On a Yamaha keyboard or whatever this is easy, as many have 128 General Midi intruments, and if not that then they at least have the basics. In Renoise this takes extra time and can be frustrating.

Here’s some options I noticed…

  1. Take the Renoise default instruments and remove a lot of the vibrato, flanger, delays, etc, all the effects, and you maybe end up with something that sounds like a regular piano, or a regular flute, etc

  2. Try to find premade Renoise instruments in the backstage area that are more normal or traditional sounding.

  3. Use ReWire in some manner, but I’m on Linux so that won’t work.

  4. Use VSTs, but again many don’t work on Linux and I’m in the process of finding out a few that do. I like Dexed and Helm for synth tracks but I haven’t found one I want yet (hopefully FOSS, not proprietary) which would create General Midi type instruments.

The VST route from what I read isn’t as “native” and some Renoise effect commands and such would not work. Is this correct?

That leaves the Soundfonts and other files, but again I am not familiar with these.

So which of these would be better for normal, boring instruments that are more “native” or closer to the Renoise workflow, but also sound good and have some variety?

If I can’t figure this out, I’ll either need some standalone software to practice chords and melodies, or I’ll have to use an old Yamaha keyboard that has GM instruments.

Thanks.
