Record automation in multiple tracks at the same time

Renoise Forum - November 15, 2022 - 18:50

Is there a way to do that?
I got an AKAI midimix, I assigned the controllers to several parameters in renoise but I can only record automation on the track the cursor is located.
Is it possible to record automation into multiple tracks?

Live Pattern Matrix Question

Renoise Forum - November 15, 2022 - 07:36

Is there perhaps a tool or some configuration to pre/trigger patterns for live playing? Basically triggering a pattern a measure, beat, or even lines ahead via MIDI or keybind?

D16 Phoscyon 2 VST window can't be moved

Renoise Forum - November 14, 2022 - 00:12

When I load Phoscyon 2, the top and bottom edges of the editing window are displayed beyond the edges of my screen, so I can’t move the window around by clicking and dragging. When I resize the GUI, the top of the window remains out of sight, but the lower edge comes up. If I try shrinking the Renoise window, the Phoscyon window itself doesn’t shrink along with Renoise.

When I load Phoscyon in other DAW’s, the editing window is completely visible, so I think this is something weird with Renoise. Any ideas what might be going on?

Recently installed Catalina from Sierra and neither ableton nor Renoise open, Renoise stuttering at Initialising Rewire stage before not responding and making everything run slower. Any similar issues or solves?

Mac is 2012 model
Renoise is newest build, which ran no problemo on Sierra.

Saved automation data does not respect VST3's parameter id

Renoise Forum - November 13, 2022 - 16:42

Description

Changing the order in which parameters are declared in the source code of a VST3 plugin changes the assignment of automation data to plugin parameters. According to this topic: ID for Parameter Automation - VST 3 SDK - Steinberg Forums, that should not happen: as long as the parameter ID’s remain stable, the order in which they are declared in code should not matter.

Reproduction

  1. Create a new renoise song.
  2. Assign a VST3 effect plugin to track 1. For the purpose of demonstration, I went with the “helloworld” plugin from the VST3 sdk.
  3. Set up some automation data for the plugin parameters. For this example, I assigned “11xx” to the plugin’s “Parameter 1” and “12xx” to the plugin’s “Parameter 2”.
  4. The song now should look something like this:

  1. Save the song to disk and close Renoise.
  2. Change the source code of VST3’s HelloWorld example plugin: in PlugController.cpp, in the function PlugController::initialize, swap the order in which Parameter 1 and Parameter 2 are added to the plugin’s parameter collection. Recompile the plugin and replace it with the original HelloWorld plugin in your VST3 plugin folder. Alternatively, I uploaded a zip file containing 2 builds of “HelloWorld” (one with the original parameter order, one with the inverted parameter order) here: https://sjoerdvankreel.github.io/renoise_vst3_param_order_test/renoise_vst3_param_order_test.zip.
  3. Re-open Renoise and reload the song. Observe that pattern effect “11xx” is now controlling “Parameter 2” and “12xx” is now controlling “Parameter 1”. Since the parameter id’s (kParamVolId and kParamOnId) in the plugin’s source code did not change, I would expect “11xx” to still be mapped to Parameter 1 and “12xx” to Parameter 2. See screenshot below:

Expected results

A plugin developer should be able to change the order of parameter declarations in source code, and as long as all parameter ID’s are stable, saved automation data should keep working.

Actual results

In this example, automation for the 2 parameters get “swapped”. Pattern effects that used to control parameter1 are now controlling parameter2, and vice versa.

Renoise screen real estate optimization, custom gui placement

Renoise Forum - November 13, 2022 - 12:03

Hey,

Been requested before I’m sure and not the highest priority on the ‘cool things to implement’ list, but if it is relatively easy to create, please consider the following;

Being able to manually drag gui elements/sections to another place in the top of the screen, for example;

Especially when you have turned of the meters at the top, there is enough free space to fit all the gui elements in one row, free’ing up vertical space for potentially more important info.
(I’m not a photoshopper , but quick example of a custom order)

The same can be thought of the bottom portion in Renoise, showing the track dsp & automation toggles on the left, status notices and Renoise name on the right of the screen. I feel like there could be a smarter placement of these elements leading to less redundant space.

Hello there, can anybody suggest some good impulse response libraries to me?Free and paid, it doesn’t matter.
I’m interested in nice reverbs and spaces but I’m also interested in really odd stuff too, like the inside of a vacuum cleaner and so on…

Is there a form for change the note input keys to a custom one?

Renoise Forum - November 11, 2022 - 05:12

I’m new to Renoise 3.4.2 , I downloaded the demo a few hours back.
I have experience using music trackers and some DAWs like OpenMPT, MilkyTracker, MadTracker, LMMS, FL Studio, and so on.

The “Computer Piano” keys (or how you like to say) are not so much practical when I want change the octave for the notes. I want a key scheme like the OpenMPT one, with 3 lines of key with the notes of the octaves from 4, 5 and 6 respectively and the Number line for change the octaves.

I tried to change it in the “Preferences” but doesn’t have a dedicated tab for it.
So… someone can show me a solution for it?

Play individual slices without leaving the full sample?

Renoise Forum - November 10, 2022 - 22:26

Super noob question here. Sorry about that. . .

I have a break loaded and am adjusting slices. I would like to be able to play a slice from a MIDI controller without zooming into the slice being played, so that I can tweak the slice point / listen / tweak / listen etc.

In other sample editors, you can double click a region and it will play just that region / slice. I am thinking there is a way to do that here too, but that I am missing it and not seeing it in the manual…

Thanks in advance!

Setting connection between macro and doofer

Renoise Forum - November 10, 2022 - 17:19

Hello,
I create an automatic doofer, display and name the macros using the API,
but I can’t figure out how to automatically create a macro[x] connection with the doofer with the given names. Checked what I’m talking about.

How do I connect it automatically using the API?
mappings.parameter is read-only.
Thanks.

Lockdown breaks vol.2 by luke vibert

Renoise Forum - November 10, 2022 - 15:10

Hey guys,
someone could tell me better why i should buy a pack of already known breaks samples ?
There is something different/out of the ordinary in this collection ? I mean, I love every single piece of music by don Vibert, but in which these sample should be different by the original ones ? It’s all about post-treatment, processing samples ?

Anyway here you can listen and buy it:

Phrase Editor discussion

Renoise Forum - November 9, 2022 - 19:39

Wondering if any users would care to share or discuss creative applications for the phrase editor.

How do users go about populating the matrix with a dozen or two variable patterns? By hand or are there generative techniques to create random/musical variations out there? I’m assuming the keymap mode is best for when you have several phrases programmed.

I like to use the phrase changer tool and randomize it with an LFO set to noise. I’ll usually have a c4 note set on 6 different phrase patterns each with different phrase lengths. I think this offers a different feel compared to randomizing a repeater.
