Fucking carbon footprint
So I have to ventilate this.
I bought a trigger finger pro a long time ago.
I used it for a while and then put it in the closet where it was lying around for maybe 3 years. Now I wanted to sell it so I tried it. It didn’t work! faders and knobs were jumping and Renoise could not catch midi events.
wtf? So I disassembled it, cleaned it of dust, etc.
Plugged it back in and still the same
now after 2 hours of research I found out that the USB power supply is not enough!
I have to power it externally!
And I have a new computer not even a year old.
Now I wondered if I have some USB feature enabled in the bios, although HP doesn’t show much.
EDIT:
No USB power settings

Giving focus back to Renoise
After rendering a song, the only way to give back to Renoise is clicking on the taskbar. 9/10 times when I want to give focus to an application, I click on that application so Windows pulls it in front right? This doesn’t work during or after rendering a song. Only the render to disk dialog box works and the taskbar.
So, to summarize the expected behavior:
1)Render a song
2)Put windows in front of Renoise (a browser, for example) in a way that part of the Renoise window is visible behind the browser
3)Click on the Renoise window
4)Nothing happens
Tested 3.4.3 and previous version on Windows 10 64bit

Aim for fame (VCV Rack)
Read the f*@%ing manual!
Thread for all the things you wish Renoise could do, and then find out it it can…
Just today I was looking for a tool that allows one to split patterns at an arbitrary line number, going so far as to download a now defunct tool and checking it’s code to see if I could implement this. I check the keybinds for “split” thinking to assign it to this tool so I can invoke it (after updating the API number in the manifest), and lo and behold, I find this…
I’m like wtf… didn’t know we had this!
Turns out (as I’m sure some of you already know ) that we can split and join patterns from the pattern editor! Who knew?! Maybe you did!
RTFM!
Anywayz, this is super useful to know going forward. Feel free to share your deep dives on things you find out renoise could do all along here in this thread, and maybe it will serve as a random catch-all for some poor sap in the future lol

macOS: Redux window resizing quirks in Logic
Hey, thanks for the update. I was hoping this would have fixed an issue I’ve been having since getting my M2 Mac and switching to Ventura, last December - where the Redux window overspills the macOS window chrome, hiding the close/minimise buttons and the grabbable chrome.
It opens up fine, but if you switch to Editor mode, the macOS window doesn’t expand with the new bigger layout, and the content overflows, hiding the close/minimise buttons and making it so you can’t grab the window any longer to reposition or close it.
There is slightly different behaviour depending on where the window is before entering Editor mode; if the window starts in the lower left, so the whole expanded window fits on-screen, there will be a sliver of chrome left to grab, but still no close/minimise buttons. If the windows starts anywhere where it will expand to off-screen pixels, the chrome ends up entirely behind the Redux content. You can also make the chrome switch between these states by pushing the Editor window around the screen.
Here is a screen recording:

Getting the IP address of the device that sent an OSC message
I am doing some OSC stuff to control track devices, and what I want to do is have my Renoise handle an OSC message that is some sort of “current status” request and send an OSC message back with some device info.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting the IP address of an OSC client? (That is, the address of whatever just sent that “current status” request.)
Thanks!

How do you go about recording and editing vocals?
So I’m making some hip-hop beats for a friend, which was incredibly fun. Renoise is this shit when it comes to sample-based music.
However, once I got done recording their vocals into Renoise, I realized that it’s not as easy as it is in normal DAWs, because I can’t easily move things around and quickly chop and reorder parts of a 6 minutes recording.
I can think of a couple of ways around this:
- Purchase Redux, export every instrument intro an xrni file and load it into Redux in another DAW. I’m not using more than, say, 10 instruments in a beat, so this is feasible and the solution I like the most so far
- Sync Renoise with the other DAW, so their playheads move together. Vocals are edited in the other DAW and the beat exists in Renoise, and both of them play at the same time. I can’t make it work with Ardour but I may not be trying hard enough
- Export the beat as a plain audio file and load it into the other DAW. This one is my least favorite but may be the most comfortable
So, my friends here who regularly work with singers, what’s your workflow?

Macbook Pro keyboard shortcut to play and loop current pattern
Hello!
Been trying to find what keyboard shortcut can I use on Mac to play and loop current pattern and I can’t. Manual says right ALT is the shortucut, but ALT is non existant on Mac and instead Option is used, but when pressed, it plays entire song. Is there any shortcut I can use?

Polyphonic sample playback with different sample start points per note?
Hello,
I’d like to play a multi note chord using a single sample but have each note in that chord start from a different point in the sample. I would like those start points to change every time a chord is played. Ultimately I’d like this to happen while recording and not through automation.
Does anyone know the simplest way to achieve this? Is there a tool someone created which can do this or a way within Renoise? thanks!

Drumatic 3 kick clips horribly in Renoise
I’m using Drumatic 3.02 with Renoise 3.4.3 (64-bit). All other sounds are ok except the kick drum which just makes loud clipping noise (volume bars show red). Changing the preset or kick drum parameters has no effect.
Does it work for anyone else? No problems in Reaper with the plugin.

Convolver stuff y'all probably know
So, I really like the sound of cassette recorders and ambient music - using Ableton, I made this with cassette IR devices: Layered Lines • EP | Neuro... No Neuro
Today, I decided to give the process of cassette sounds using Convolver a go - not making a track or anything, but to give it a listen. Convolver can do it! It also has a ton of capability to add extra filtering to the sound. It’s almost a filter/EQ using such short samples (approx. 200 samples in length). Can get a nice ‘Sawako’ tape sound with Renoise if I try.
While Renoise is still a bit stiff when it comes to LFO modulation (still no random with rounded edges), there’s a nice amount of variation to be had at low amplitudes. Low fidelity in a nice way!

Audio lag after rendering to sample or playing video in browser
I have posted more information in this post on the Arch Linux Forum: Audio (pipewire) lagging behind after using DAW Renoise. / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums
Not sure if this is a Linux or Renoise problem. It started a few weeks ago before the 3.4.3 update. Anyone know what could going on here?

Suggestion: Sequence/pattern disabling/collapsing
I would absolutely love a way to skip (disable/grey out) selected patterns in my sequence editor.
I always end up writing sequences that I’m not keen on for the current track but either want to come back to, or revisit later on in the song.
I can’t see this as being a difficult change to implement, but could we perhaps add a means of right-clicking on a sequence entry to get to an enable/disable option please?
Taking it one step further, if there were a sequence of disabled patterns then perhaps we could even implement a collapse/expand feature on the disabled patterns so they can be easily ignored when editing the pattern sequence?
e.g.
Pattern 1
Pattern 2 // Jump to pattern 5 for next pattern
Pattern 3 ## Disable this pattern
Pattern 4 ## Disable this pattern
Pattern 5
Pattern 6
