New tool (3.2.1) Acid Step Sequencer v1.0 build 028 (May 2020)
Acid Step Sequencer or A.S.S. is a stepper note injector, with an acidic sequencer approach. Choose a number of steps between 2 and 32. You can manipulate the notes and all their related values. Use the Master Step (“M” swith) for manipulation in selective groups or each step individually. You will be able to import, edit and delete data. Experiment with your notes quickly from a advanced sequencer panel. Use the power of randomization to get more creative in no time. This tool will add hours of fun building your patterns!
Main features- Up to 32 steps.
- Line jump (click inside the “Step X” name).
- Marker (with green lighting).
- Individual editing of each step.
- Master step for group editing (red step).
- Ability to auto-adjust the “number of lines of the pattern” from the LNS Value of the Master Step (press [CTRL + Click] from increase or decrease the LNS Value).
- Direct control of: note, instrument index, volume, panning, delay, sfx parameter and sfx amount values.
- Manipulation the number of lines for the steps.
- Manipulation of the note-off for the steps.
- Four selection modes: all, odd, even or custom (with 32-step panel with various selection modes).
- Selective transposition of notes.
- Randomization of values (all), with range capacity and number of steps.
- Injection of the effect and quantity in lower empty lines.
- Selective cleaning.
- Slider bars with “set to 0” (double click).
- Data import/load.
- Safe! It need Renoise “edit mode” enabled to edit.
- [SPACE] Restart/stop song.
- [ALT SPACE] Continue/stop song.
- [CTRL Z] undo.
- [CTRL Y] redo.
- [CTRL SHIFT A] close window.
- *[CTRL SHIFT A] open window (Assignable: Preferences/Keys:Global/Tools/Acid Step Sequencer)
- Renoise: Tools/ ~Acid Step Sequencer…
The GUI is constructed so that the tool appears as integrated as possible with Renoise.
“A step” is defined by the triggering of a single note. The note occupies one line, and it can have more lines below to lengthen its duration. A.S.S. is capable of injecting a specific number of notes with a specific distribution by steps. Choose a specific number of steps, insert the notes and then manipulate all their values from the tool, through each step panel. You can view between 2 and 32 equal panels. Master one, and you will master them all.
It is important to know how to control the Master Step (red panel), by pressing the “M” switch. Master Step allows you to selectively manipulate all the parameters together. Choose from All, Odd, Even or Custom for step selection.
The tool can work back and forth. That is, manipulate the data from the tool, or import data from the Renoise pattern (the selected note column). The “Import data” button allows you to readjust the tool to already written notes (only note lines and their associated note-offs).
Furthermore, A.S.S. allows specific manipulation of the effect parameters and their amonuts. You can inject the values down, leaving the pattern ready for a more granular edit later.
The highlight is the selective randomization panel. This allows the user to be much more creative when he is not able to be. Use the randomization of any parameter to increase your inspiration shots. A.S.S. will help you find that step-sequenced note pattern that you never would have thought of!

Horizontal View, Polyphase Resampling, Mid-Thru in Compressor
Hi. I´ve been testing Renoise for a while, and really like it on *nix. Have used it with 0.33 ms latency, and it is much like it felt to use a tracker on Amiga, just with modern features.
I was wondering if you could include Polyphase Filtering, as it sounds more like variable DAC like Amiga, without interpolation error, but with modern filtering.
Also a horizontal view, like later sequencers would be nice, just tracker oriented instead, compact save/load fileformat, not needing external plugins.
And also I have been doing much work with mastering, and a 4 submix to master would be an ideal master considering its background aswell. And I was wondering if you could include a mid-thru in the compressor. Then I can reduce ratio in the midrange, and it would make mastering perfect.
Serene Greetings.

API observable for tool focus?
Hello all!
I’ve come up empty when looking for an observable that holds the dialog active/inactive (focused) state. I’d like to know when the user clicked on the main window and my tool lost focus. Is there such an animal lurking in the API?
If not, does anyone have any idea how I might derive the state using other API calls / window states?

A sort of 80's styled song
It’s not a song with verses and chorus and stuff, but more like it borrows stylistically from 80’s synthpop
Feedback welcome as always

"what sound is this" kind of questions
Hi all,
where is a good forum to ask “what sound is this” kind of questions? Here at Renoise forum or somewhere else?
I am a newbie and having trouble finding the sounds I want in my instruments (I have KOMPLETE 12 SELECT which came with NI Maschine). For example I wonder what this accordion like sound is (I believe it is a classic)

Modify audio routing of instruments?
Maybe i’m wrong but it seems its not possible to change this via API, right?
I thought about creating a simple tool for switching the channel of loopcloud via context menu on tracks.

Controlling the keypress values?
So, I found a VST called DSK Guitars which has some really lovely sounding … sounds! … But the issue is that it’s made for a midi-keyboard where you can hard-press or lightly press a key and get different sounds. Or a more standard music production software.
How do I make a “light” press on a key when I only have a keyboard? I don’t have a name for it, or know what it’s called. So I can’t really search for an answer either. Haha…
Thanks for the help!

Keybindings break when exiting Renoise while in Language other than English
First of all, I’m sorry if the title sounds weird, I don’t know enough English to properly explain that in a short fashion.
So basically, as a person who has more than 2 languages for my input, I sometimes will forget what language I’m at (in this case, Thai) and close Renoise. The next time I open Renoise, my keybindings are all gone, and I’d have to reset it. This is not that much of a problem, but it irritates me every time it happens.
Here are the steps to reproduce the problem:
- Open Renoise. Loading a song here does not matter as I have seen no change.
- Switch your input language to something other than English (In my case, I used Thai).
- Close Renoise.
- Open Renoise again.
I did some tests myself, and the file attached here is the result of stage 3 (before running Renoise again). KeyBindings.xml (165.9 KB)
Apparently Renoise did save the keybindings in the input language instead of English, and I think that is the source of the problem. Any thoughts?

Tremolo in instruments
It was my old thought. . When one wants to do tremolo, he wants second note to sound different from first. Some try to vary volume. Some try to use another sample. For my ear you could use same sample, but instead of changing volume, change sample offset.
I used to like sfz and sf2 banks. I didn’t see free sf players that could do it, I mean adjusting sample offsets. Do you know?

Recording multiple cc's in same time (Expressive E Touché)
I had a long period of not making music so it is possible that i forgot how to do this. Renoise 3.1.1 currently.
Short story: Is there way to record all cc’s signal generated?
So i bough today https://www.expressivee.com/touche-se and i’m loving it as adding expressivness, but problem is that it’s generating very dense (4cc’s in same time and more) midi signal, and problem is that it looks like when i record it it writes to pattern only one command per line (and i suspect only last one), and it’s not enough when trying to record performance for Arche instruments. I’m using lpb 12 and its still not enough and i do feel like it would be good if there would be option to maybe select how many lines is creating on fx column, or something like that
Is there way to do it? I’ve tried to map controller to instrument automation device, but it doesn’t work because it is switching to controll their own vst if it is on list.

Bug probably related to Win10 scaling
I had it for some days when used 4k tv as monitor. Trial version didn’t show dialog about purchasing, instead after some time renoise hanged when I pressed play or undo buttons. Then I plugged fhd monitor and bug went away. Then I switched back to 4k tv, but bug didn’t return. I don’t remember exact windows scaling settings I had when bug occurred. So I can’t reproduce it, sorry.

New Tool: Keybindings Speed Bar
Hello all,
Based on a suggested feature to implement a speed bar I’ve slapped together just such a thing to make key bindings quickly searchable using fuzzy text search.
Screenshots:
I’ve tried to build it to get immediately out of the way when you press a key combination. It will read all alphanumeric input and backspace as input to the search. Escape will clear the search; hit it again to close the dialog. Any other key combination entered will immediately close the dialog and pass directly to Renoise.
Some notes:
- This tool will read your KeyBindings.xml file, which is outside of the Tools folder. Some people might argue that it’s bad design to leave the sandbox, but it’s the only way this tool will work, since there’s no other way I know to interrogate bindings via the API. Check out the source code to see that it’s only read, never written.
- You can bind your own shortcut to open the speed bar. I’m on a mac, and I’ve bound it to Option + spacebar - super easy, and super fast
- A future version might only show shortcuts relevant to the context of your Renoise session (i.e. if you’re in the Pattern editor you’d only see Global and Pattern Editor shortcuts), but for now you get everything.
Enjoy!
