Pressure Sensitive Mechanical Keyboard?

January 15, 2023 - 21:17

hey y’all,

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get something like this (link below) pressure sensitive gaming keyboard to integrate with Renoise? I’m a bit new to Renoise but this feels like a big deal to me (if possible) for minimalism sake + music making enjoyment. Maybe this is already discussed here but wasn’t able to find a topic.

TechSpot Razer's Huntsman V2 Analog's pressure-sensitive keys are literally game-changing

On Wednesday, Razer announced the Huntsman V2 Analog gaming keyboard. From a physical design standpoint, Razer's newest mechanical keyboard is identical to the excellent Huntsman Elite. The...

Ripchord compatibility in Renoise?

January 15, 2023 - 20:25

Hi,

Is it anyone here that tried Ripchord in Renoise? I can’t get it to work (I’ve been looking in to other DAW’s and how they set it up), but Renoise differs from those DAW’s, and I can’t really figure it out. Do anyone know how you set it up to work in Renoise?

Thanks in advance,

Holding shift while entering effects commands into Local FX does not appear to work

January 15, 2023 - 00:25

Using the shift key to enter FX values appears to work differently between local FX and master FX in a track.

For example, if I place the cursor in the master fx column and type Shift+G, then “g” is entered and the cursor moves to the right, so I can enter a value.

However, doing the same thing in the local fx column moves the cursor down, which means if I want to enter a value i need to press Up and right.

Is this expected behavior? Can it be customised?

Thank you for reading

Mono note inputs from MIDI device?

January 15, 2023 - 00:02

I’m punching in notes with a drum pad controller and I keep fat fingering an extra pad and adding an unintended additional note/column. Is there a way to disable this behaviour?

Playing a slice in reverse

January 14, 2023 - 14:51

Is there a way of the command “B00” not play the whole sample in reverse but a slice that I put in the Pattern Editor?

More specifically, if, for example, C404 is the 8th slice in total of 12 slices of a sample, when I put B00 in FX column, it plays the whole sample in reverse. Any ways of playing that slice specifically in reverse?

Linux/Windows VST Associations

January 14, 2023 - 04:58

So I’ve managed to get a linux setup with yabridge doing a reaonably good job of letting me open my old windows projects. I’ve only wrapped a few VSTs to avoid overdoing things, and one thing I’m trying to figure out is whether there is a way to associate a native linux VST with the VST that was used in the windows project.

Specifically, I’ve installed (native linux) pianoteq, and when I open a project I get the “VST not found” message for the windows version of pianoteq. I tried installing the windows VST, but no luck, it just crashes. Of course I can replace the instrument, but that will destroy the preset settings, and break the project on windows. Not a big problem for pianoteq, but I can see this being an issue as I continue.

Anyone know of a solution for this? Is there a way to spoof a linux-to-linux bridged plugin?

Pseudo-FM with only the Distortion 2 module

January 13, 2023 - 12:51

So, looking deeper into FM/PM/PD/AM, one can get VERY close to all sorts of these 2-OP FM sounds with just the Distortion module. They are basically altering the waveform’s shape. Using a basic sine-wave, run it through this Doofer.

What makes it useful for synthesis is the amount of limitation used in the Doofer. The distortion module is very heavy-handed to use on its own, without limiting the amount of distortion used. Taking the Doofer and controlling how much distortion can happen now makes the distortion models useful for melodic work, instead of just distorted fart sounds. With the other knobs, one can select the model of distortion, the tone, and the amount applied.

I imagine this could also have control via LFO one-shot to create envelopes? What do y’all say? Maybe we could make another Doofer with this that controls the envelope?

Various Pattern Lengths

January 13, 2023 - 03:32

Is there a way to have, for example one track set to 512 lines while another at 256 apart of the same pattern sequence?

Basically what I’d like is for the longer pattern to continue while the shorter ones loop.

Apologies ahead of time if I just need to RTFM diligently

How i can achieve this chord sound with renoise?

January 12, 2023 - 19:08

I am talking about the beginning of this song (0:00 to 0:10) linked here seventeen - YouTube

I’m not sure but did the author made 2 tracks with sine wave chords playing alternately and added a distortion + some other stuff to the second track? Sounds like it at least for me

Parameter search field in expanded fx device improvements

January 12, 2023 - 16:58

Often a vst fx has a ton of parameters, and its quite hard to find the parameter you want to manually automate… If the device parameters are expanded, there could be a live search field right next to the preset name, which filters the displayed parameters on the fly…

Maybe there could be also “pages” of two colums with some kind of pagination instead on the top right, so only 2 columns at once will be shown in this mode and you can step thru [1] [2] [3] …

At least the current way of expanding maybe like hundred of parameters is a bit counter productive in my opinion. Somehow this could be improved for faster access. Ideally Renoise could automate by itself already in the vst guis, maybe with a similar mechanism like the gui automation recorder tool.

Lfo not in sync

January 12, 2023 - 11:31

To make it easier I uploaded the file:

Dropbox test1.xrns

Shared with Dropbox

It seems that when I automate the gainer(attached to lfo) in the instrument section , lfo seems to not operate as it should , syncing goes on and off . Disabling the gainer’s automantion fixes the issue . Why is it behaving like that? What is wrong with my setup?

Sampler Effects

January 12, 2023 - 10:43

I’m trying to understand the following part from the documentation:

By default, instruments that make use of FX Chains will only be played in a single track in Renoise, or a single output bus in Redux.

I have an instrument with a kick and a snare. Both send to an fx-chain with rev+delay. Both samples play in a different phrase.

When I play the kick phrase in sequencer/track-1 and the snare phrase in track-2 the fx is applied to both samples.

When I add a filter to track-1, it’s only applied to the kick.

Did I miss something ?

Free & Open VST: Surge XT - for Linux and Renoise, with FM and other great features

January 12, 2023 - 02:04
surge-synthesizer.github.io Surge

Surge is an open source digital synthesizer.

Perhaps it’s old news… yet I am totally happy about it - my dreams come true - and it works Linux. Low on resources.

And does FM, and custom tuning.

Doofer: Vital Synth Macros

January 12, 2023 - 01:31

This is a simple Doofer mapped to the macros of the magnificent open source Vital synth by Matt Tytel.

VITAL MACROS.xrdp (9.6 KB)

Most of the synth’s presets include macros mapped to its own internal 4 knobs, so this is a Renoise Doofer that just assigns Renoise macros to control the Vital macros.

Just pop it on the track you’re playing your Vital synth into, make sure the Instrument Automation meta is pointing at Vital, and you should be good to go!

Using numpad keys to enter numbers in the pattern editor?

January 12, 2023 - 00:22

Hi all, I’m dipping my toes back into tracking after many years, having grown up on ST3, IT2 and OpenMPT. Renoise is looking awesome so far.

I’m currently getting my keymap set up and I’m mostly happy, except I haven’t figured out how to enter numbers into the pattern editor via numpad keys.

I’ve unassigned all other commands from numpad keys in both global and pattern editor scope. Via the conflict viewer, I can see that top-row number keys are assigned to ‘Pattern Input’, but it doesn’t look like I can explicitly assign the numpad numbers to that “command”.

Any tips? Thanks!
