How to merge intruments to create a new sample?

March 18, 2023 - 15:56

How to merge instruments to create a new sample? The best thing would be to create chorded samples made of the same instrument, different notes. Is it possible?

New VST, Standalone Editor & Soundbank For The Korg Volca Kick

March 16, 2023 - 20:04
Synthtopia – 14 Mar 23 New VST, Standalone Editor & Soundbank For The Korg Volca Kick

The Volca Kick Editor gives you direct access from your DAW to the Kick’s parameters, allowing you to integrate it into the DAW project.

I have the Kick and it’s been more used for solid basslines than percussion.

It responds to CC messages but this editor VST thing might make automating via Renoise nicer.

Has anyone ever successfully replicated thie specific fast Aphex Fast Acid stuff? Song = Cock ver 10... 45 sec in

March 16, 2023 - 09:30

Aphex Twin - Cock/Ver10 - YouTube (45 seconds in)

I have spent a decent amount of time trying to recreate this fast acid sequenced thing and haven’t been able to get anything that sounds like it. I have 2 303 VSTs and the sh-101. I know one of them is involved. I’m still a little new at using them though (i play drums primairly). It’s obviously a sequenced sound cut up… but I just don’t understand 1. what the actual sequence is (it’s hard to tell what notes are being played) 2. how to get it filtered like in his song

Like I said I’m a drummer so the drums I have a very good idea of how he made but how the heck do you get this specific sound? Btw I’ve looked at all the YouTube videos that are around and they aren’t this exact thing. They’re for different songs that don’t have this vibe.

Let me know if you can help me at all. I’m willing to donate a few bucks if someone can help me get this part re-created very closely to the original. thanks :]

Make your synths sound pro

March 15, 2023 - 16:59

If you are beginner in Hardstyle Hardcore or whatever genre using big synths, here is a little tip to make them sound loud and clear.
I made a quick template using shitty synth sounds that i drew with the pen tool of renoise, the lead synth is ducking the reverb send channel and the volume of the pad channel with the “signal follower” so when the lead hits, the reverb and the pad go silent to let the maximal space possible to the lead and the chord. When the synth does not play, the reverb and the pad rise up and give this sensation of fatness. You must use this technique with nice synth VSTs (with internal reverb and delay off) and maybe fat reverbs like Valhalla on the send channel to make the trick way bigger!
Hope you enjoy!

[Tool Idea] Record mouse click solo'ing / muting in scopes to pattern

March 14, 2023 - 13:03

Eyyo,

probably impossible, but here goes. I have a bunch of idea song files just consisting of a couple of patterns, which are fun to loop and play around with muting and solo’ing through (left/right)mouse clicking in the scopes. Trying to get a feel for the eventual arrangement, when parts should kick in or not. The quickness to create some kind of performance is great imo.

Could it be possible to create a tool which will record this (perhaps through inserting the X’s in the matrix blocks, creating volume automation and/or inserting volume pattern commands) and while the tool is enabled; will auto grow the songfile with the new patterns? Similar to how the autoclone pattern tool (Auto Clone Patterns | Renoise) will automatically grow the song when a sequence slot is selected and the tool is enabled.

I bet through workarounds, setting up and midi mapping a similar workflow can be achieved recording through a midi controller, but the right mouse clicking in the scopes feels so quick and instant, I think it would be great to be able to record these actions .

If scope changes are impossible to fetch in lua, how about the “M” & “S” icons in the mixer?

If there is a tool which can do something similar let me know!

Recording effects commands

March 13, 2023 - 22:54

Probably not a bug and not even sure if this is a feature or not .
WHen realtime recording effects commands from the pc keyboard , in this case pressing the letter R for retrigger ( values will be inserted on second pass )
There is delay when the key is held down ( ee screesnshot for details ) and the actual retrigger commands appearing when key is still held down

Automation over multiple patterns?

March 12, 2023 - 11:30

How do you guys work with making automation curves that span multiple patterns?

To me it seems like the only way to get around this is to use longer pattern lengths which i am not really a fan of.

I have seen the technique people use with the LFO where you create your own custom shape but i find it tedious having to tweak the amplitude of the LFO to get the value you want.

How to load/save TAL-Elek7ro presets in Renoise?

March 11, 2023 - 15:33

Lukas Lundh has made some neat 80s patches that I’d like to use. I just can’t figure out how to load a preset from a file – there’s just the pulldown menu to select from built-in patches.

Also, how do you save a preset?

I have the same problem with TAL-Bassline and TAL-U-No-62.

Question about "Beat slicing" tutorial

March 11, 2023 - 01:49

Advance apologies for what is probably a dumb question
So from my 8 or so hours of watching video tutorials I have been taught there are two ways to slice a beat.

  1. Create markers either automatically or manually.
  2. Use beatsync (this warps the sample to the tempo so the pitch will move with it)

Now when I open up the tutorial called ‘Beat Slicing’ (that everyone starts with) there is 1 sample in it that is 100bpm. There are no markers on the sample, and beatsync is not turned on. Yet the track conforms to the tempo which is 128bpm, and is pitched up slightly as a result.

What step in the process am I missing? Is there a 3rd way to do this? I’d like to know how they did it in this tutorial but there is no information as far as I can tell.

Thank you!

Key tracker mode to receive portamento/vibrato data from pattern effect commands

March 11, 2023 - 00:01

The idea is to add a new mode to the key tracker, that would allow tracking the pattern effect portamento and vibrato commands.

How should it work? Currently when a key is hit, it is translated into one of the discrete steps in the output range. The new mode should respect portamento and vibrato calls, and alter the output value to reflect the amount of pitch modulation done by outputting values between the discrete steps, so a portamento of 50 cents up, should produce an output value right in the middle of the last triggered note step and the step that belongs to the note above it - deriving the data from the calculated pitch that a sample would have after issuing the commands. Another toggle mode might be desirable that would control how the portamento would react when crossing the output low/high limit values, i.e. to continue beyond or to stop/clamp at the boundaries.

A possible way to implement it in a non-breaking way would be to add a parameter to the native key tracker effect device, that when enabled would yield to the upgraded behavior. The modulation note key tracker device could also be upgraded by such an option, enabling the use of portamento for the comb and ring mod modulation filters.

Use cases would be various, from simple things, like filters shifting not only to the note played, but also to pattern effect portamentos, up to enabling the use of pitch pattern effect commands within techniques like using keytracked and tuned ringmods, comb filters or other tunable (modulation) effects. Currently such sounds are limited in that pattern effect commands have no influence on them - the new mode would enable such sound design tools to be controlled by pattern effect commands in sync with samples playing.

Livid ohm wood issues?

March 9, 2023 - 23:46

man, I just bought one of these yesterday and am very sad!

it’s not the 64, it’s the OG one.

ohm64 is class compliant and doesnt require drivers… I’m finding it basically impossible to find documentation for this midi controller on the net. I even tried to use the wayback machine…

anyhow, if a head from wayback knows how to “do the thing” and would like to guide me… I may just try to sell it fast instead. (I kind of always find myself in these types of situations with old forgotten gear)

Phrases cutting out

March 9, 2023 - 14:30

I have come across a bug when using phrases. When you have a lot of phrased instruments and you are sequencing them one after another, sometimes the very last hit of a phrased instrument cuts off early before the next phrased instrument hit.Sometimes this can be prevented by having the different instruments using duplicate dsp chains. However this doesn’t always work,so I have to switch the track the instruments are playing on.

Ableton Link ZL/Pattern Length Glitch?

March 8, 2023 - 23:10

Hi! New here to the Renoise community… just bought the software a couple nights ago after falling in love with the vibe and workflow (coming from Ableton/Reaper/Max/ChucK/etc.) And I couldn’t help it… it brought good memories of trying to figure out Fasttracker II back in my happy teenage days being amazed by the sounds coming out of trackers!

Anyway, that’s the intro! Now my question … I’m helping run a “Video Game Music Ensemble” Mario Kart Tournament (tons of fun) and have built an Ableton set to control the overall flow. We’re using Link to sync my Ableton stuff with our drummer, bassist and a couple of guys running some other synth stuff. I thought it would be cool to work up some of the tracks in Renoise and link up to the Ableton master click. And it works great! But it seems like only certain conditions. If I toss in ZL (to handle a couple of occasional triplet licks) or change the pattern length to something other than divisible by 4, it wigs out. It seems like the ZL glitch only happens if I’m working in 4 or 8 LPB, but at some point (any point) in the song, if I throw in something like 6 or 12 (not 4 based), Renoise magically catches up with the clock, but some patterns will suddenly be half or double time while it figures out what’s going in.

Is this a known glitch? Is there a workaround? I could get rid of the triplets and line things up in the song, but it would be sweet to have the beat be the beat, no matter the pattern length or beat subdivision.

Super awesome software! And such an awesome vibe! I’m working on getting some of my students into it!

Expand pattern/song while Recording Live notes

March 8, 2023 - 14:01

I make most of my music in renoise but found that when recording fast keyboard parts live, the timing is not very accurate (I assume this is due to the resolution of the delay column). In these cases I’m forced to migrate the song I’m working on to another DAW.

I recently came across this tool Tuned Shortcuts, which includes functionality to temporarily expand a pattern to 512 lines while recording, then shrink back to the original size after recording is finished. This seems promising to help with this “fast live notes” problem because you have many more lines to work with. However the tool is old and not working anymore.

My question is, is there a way for me to manually do this using the basic renoise ui (without using a tool)? I’ve been using Renoise for a long time but never really understood how LPB works and how to manipulate it without messing up the song.

Any help is appreciated!
