Some Question to the “Vol”, “Pan”,“Dly” FX Rows. I thought till now that each of this named FX Row’s is exclusiv for the respective effect. Vol Row for Volume Fx, Pan Row for Pan FX, Dly Row for Delay FX. But now i see, that i can do a Vol FX on Pan FX Row and an Envenlope FX on Vol FX Row and a PlaySample BackwardFX on Vol Row and many many other combinations. Why is this so? Is that a bug, or bad design, or what is the reason for this. I ask because Colorcoded FX markings can turn into a Mess with this and the readability for entire songFX information goes down.

PS: I search the mostly using upfucked PatternFX Renoise song for theme testing!!! The more FX and the more wild mixed the FX is the better!

I was working on a tool to randomly choose parameters from a given instrument’s modulation sets and device chains as the instrument macros, and then stumbled into this block:

renoise.song().instruments[].macros[].mappings[].parameter
→ [read-only, renoise.DeviceParameter]

Why is this read-only? Is there any workaround?

Hi! So I have this weird problem where I can’t set, for example, “FF” in any of the effects columns (vol/pan/delay/fx). It just insert a note if possible, otherwise it does nothing. Have a look:

I tried disabling “override window manager shortcuts”, to no avail. However, it does work when I switch to X11!
I’m on KDE 5.27.4, Ubuntu Studio 23.04.

I quite like Wayland, is there any way around this? Thanks!

Description:

Midi file with chords when importing to renoise 3.4.2 it importing only first note from chord.
I also have version 3.3.1. In this version midi import works fine.

Steps to reproduce look like this:

1. Launch Renoise
2. Drag and drop midi file (with chords) to renoise

Expected results:

Importing all notes from chordes

Actual results:

Importing olny 1st note of every chord

Extras:
How it should be imported (screen from 3.3.1)

But it imports like this in version 3.4.2

Phrase Selection Dropdown Closes Randomly
Expected:
Click on the phrase selection dropdown menu at the upper-right corner of the phrase window, and the dropdown window will remain open until you’ve selected a phrase, or clicked out of the menu.

Actual:
The window closes randomly. This actually happens for that dropdown menu in any of the tabs (Phrases, Keyzones, Waveform, Modulation and Effects). Open it, perhaps navigate to one of the submenus…at some arbitrary point it will close. No mouse or keyboard input.

Not sure what happened here,was editing an instrument with phrases when Renoise unexpectedly quit.Went to log file,could not see a crash report,however it did have this.

I would like to see the Phrase Editor be able to play and loop without the need of the pattern editor commands. Heres my idea:

Phrase editor scrolls just like pattern editor

Live record into phrase editor

(idk why we can’t do either of these they seem like an obvious option to include )

The phrases stay in sync line wise regarless of lpb, so when triggered, the phrase begins playing from where it would be line wise based on the pattern editor even though idealistically the pattern editor itself COULD remain empty(crazy math probably required but i think its realistic)

Can trigger the phrases by the next x amount of line/beats. so the triggered phrase wouldnt begin looping until a particular time and everything remains in sync

Hitting global play would begin to play every currently selected phrase in every instrument that is set to a sort of Global Sync

I think for something like this to work the instrument wouldn’t be able play on multiple tracks, just like a plugin instrument

I’m thinking Tracker Groovebox/MPC/Live Looper

I thought about this one for a while but it feels like something like this would fit right into renoise and expand its capabilities. I feel like renoise is already designed in a way to encourage the user to create there own work flow.

Hello community!

I have been thinking a lot about a tool called a pattern matrix. Despite its convenience, subconsciously, I have always desired some further evolution because currently, the Renoise sequencer feels a bit static to me. However, I have absolutely no desire for my track data to be displayed like in other DAWs, as on a larger scale, it becomes a cluttered mess that lacks informativeness. I really want to preserve the ideology of a tracker even in such forms and approaches. While studying the heritage of demoscene tools, I came up with an idea that includes aspects of the song mode from an Elektron mono machine and several old trackers.

Overall, there are no major or complex constructions here yet; it is a collection of regular commands such as pattern number, start and end points, and some specific command (playback speed, divisor, inversion, etc.). This is just the basic idea and an attempt to draw the community’s attention.

In general, your opinion is interesting as the further development of renoise in this direction

Is it possible to select several patterns in the arranger/pattern sequencer and copy over solely the note data without copying the linked automation data?

I’m trying to do some old school jungle pads. I noticed when using one track, with one pad sample instrument or two different instruments, that when my instrument goes from one note to another the release of the first note cuts abruptly when the second plays, instead of smoothly activating the release set up in the ADSR. I even tried to use a note OFF 16 steps prior to the new note, but that new note overrides the first one. So do I need two tracks to get the release of one pad to blend into the attack of another?

Is there a way to solo a track from the pattern command?

I’m aware of the track volume 0Lxx and that’s good for groups/sends but is there a way to emulate muting all other tracks from a pattern command.

Goal is to create better bridges/breaks without having to use 0Lxx on every track I don’t want heard ATM

When you listen to your own music critically and honestly, where are you falling short in your composition?

Compare yourself to the best of the best in whatever genre you’re making music in, what is different about your music? Sure, there are differences in the mix and sound design between you and the pro’s. But let’s skip those, we have an excellent thread for that here, and focus on the music and arrangement instead.

Feel free to share your music along side some examples of what you’re trying to achieve. But tell me where you think you need to improve.

Hi there!

I’m trying to layer my lead to make it more powerful. Basically i have two tracks and track 2 is a duplicate of track 1, except it’s one octave higher. The VSTi of track 2 is also duplicated from track 1 since a VSTi can’t play on multiple tracks at once.

The problem i’m experiencing is that i haven’t figured out how to control the parameters of both tracks at the same time. I’ve added an instrument automation to both tracks and what i want is when i change a parameter in instrument automation in track 1 (f.e. Filter Cutoff) it must also be applied to the instrument automation in track 2. I want them to be linked to eachother.

Is this possible?

Hi all!

Wondering if anyone here has ever had any success copying the patterns from Sonic Charge’s Microtonic into Renoise? I’ve tried several things without success so far:

• Drag and drop midi only copies notes into one column - which means drum hits that fall on the same beat are ommitted. Then, ofc, you have to change the instrument # back to the Microtonic instrument to get it to play
• Midi Loopback - tried using loopmidi, but the results coming out of Microtonic appear to fill in multiple columns and the notes seem off. When opening up the instrument and playing the keyboard in Renoise, you can see that it’s triggering every octave of a note - which is problematic because some octave notes do things like engage the “play” function, etc.

Any other thoughts on how to get the midi / drum pattern from Microtonic to copy over correctly? Inspired a bit by @martblek’s WIP Re-tonic Tool making me remember a)how awesome microtonic is but also b)what a @#$@# PITA it is to try and get midi files into Renoise

EDIT: A hackaround I just figured out - using the tool here New Tool (0.1): Renoise Simple Midi File Support

You can export the midi file from microtonic to desktop/wherever, and this tool appears to correctly import the midi file. Have to be a bit careful about LPB as too few seems to bork things, but at least a deece temporary solution.
