I have my sound bank folders in iCloud and I’m trying to reach it through Renoise browser, does anyone knows how to go there?
Thank you for the help!

Noob question about sampling and Octave change
Hello!
Well this question has been bugging me for long time and I would like to get some info.
So lets say I record a sample in Note C and then insert it in Renoise pattern writing the original semi note lets say “C-3” But what happen if I change to D, C# etc? How can it be a D or E if the original sample was a note C?
If you have original instruments in Renoise or VST this “problem” will not occur because the notes coming straight from the instrument but not when sampling. How do people here work it out?
Maybe there is a sheet for this?
Cheers!

How to set the default file path for File Browser
Is there a way to set the default file path for these tabs? I have a flash drive so sometimes it will reset the file path from how I had it in a previous session and then I have to go back to my flash drive again. Any help would be appreciated

Fn keys Macbook
Hello, new in the forum.
Just got a new MacBook Pro since my previous laptop died. Does somebody knows how to switch Fn keys on by default only when using Renoise in macOS Ventura? This was much easier with the Touch Bar version macbooks
Cheers!

Glitching with oversampling on effects within instrument
Hello!
I’ve stumbled across a bug which I’ve managed to reproduce reliably on my setup with the attached XRNS file. I suspect it may have something to do with renoise instruments that have multiple internal effects chains with oversampling switched on.
The instrument in this file has two drum samples over two keygroups, one with an effects chain (containing a Digital Filter) and the other without. I get very noticeable sample playback glitches, which also seem to sneak into rendered output. I can see the glitches appearing on phase view during playback.
Curiously the glitching occurs regardless of whether the Digital Filter is bypassed or active. Switching oversampling to OFF resolves the glitching.
Does this happen for anyone else? Could this be an issue with oversampling within instruments that have multiple effects chains on different samples?
Renoise file here
glitch.xrns (83.0 KB)
Setup:
- Renoise 3.4.2
- Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 (1st Gen) Firmware 608 ASIO driver v.4.65.5
- 48000 kHz Sample Rate at 512 buffer
- CPU usage for this file approximately 01.5%
This can all be avoided by not using multiple effects chains within instruments or just switching Oversampling off, but just letting Renoise developers know in the interests of improving my beloved DAW of so many years

Working with 16 Lines x 4 Bar blocks
I am influenced by drum-machines like Korg ER and ESX. This somewhat recreates that workflow feel for me.
Put a small 4 line pattern in front to get all stuff synced up and initiated properly, or have some necessary commands there, like jump to pattern etc.

Let me talk to you about my Lord and Saviour - Kilohearts Snap Heap
Since I bought this plugin, which isn’t expensive:
Snap Heap, Snap Heap plugin, buy Snap Heap, download Snap Heap trial, (pluginboutique.com)
It has revolutionised using Renoise for me, as somebody who has really wanted parallel processing natively inside Renoise for as long as I’ve been using it really. In terms of electronic music production (which is my focus) it has made sound design so much fun and really helps get creative. It’s effectively a six slot FX processor, with heavy modulation possibilities. In terms of parallel processing, you can tie slots together and make them process in parallel rather than serial - if you leave one slot free (i.e. uneffected) and then put FX in the other slot set to fully wet, you can then blend them back together with the built in per-slot volumes.
Another benefit is the free “snaps” can be used as VST3 FX and because they’re all relatively simple, they look very much like Native FX in the track FX slots. I can’t recommend it enough, I will probably go on to buy some of the paid Snap-ins but haven’t done so yet. It’s very, very good (and no, I’m not sponsored lol).
Just wanted to share, I know a lot of people want this and until we get it natively, it’s an inexpensive way to plug one of Renoise’s (IMO) major gaps.

Can Renoise do MIDI effects?
I have an arpeggio going and feeding it into my hardware synth via MIDI, so far so good. Now I want to spice it up a little without having to re-enter all the notes. For example, I want it to play every 3rd note an octave higher than what I entered in the pattern.
If this was audio in the sampler it would be super easy with the stepper tool on the pitch parameter. But is there a way to do this to VST/MIDI inside of Renoise?
I haven’t tried this yet, but I suppose I could rig an LFO device to the Pitchbend in the Instr. Midi Control. And program a pattern that way. Which I expect to be quite a hassle when working with other note values than octaves.
So is there a more elegant way to do this?

Real names of amps/cabinets in Cabinet Simulator
Hello everyone,
I recently started using Renoise’s Cabinet Simulator with my guitar much more than other software amp sims or real hardware, mostly because it sounds really good and is simple at the same time - also already well integrated into my DAW of choice.
I’m, however, curious what real life amps/cabinets are being simulated (i.e. what IRs are being used by the cab sim).
Some are of course easier to figure out than others (Marsh being Marshall obviously, Black Twin/Deluxe probably Fender).
Here’s the full list of available cabinets in Renoise:
All Classic
Black Deluxe
Black Twin
Boro Jazz
Del DG-10
Event Off-Axis
Tweed Deluxe
Graft Bass
Highway 100
Lin Vintage
Pod 4x12
Flextone Crunch
Mans Deluxe
Marsh Off-Axis
Marsh ST 70
Rand Clean
Amp Direct
Breakdown
I couldn’t find any further information on this, so I guess there is no comprehensive list. The reason why renoise uses made-up names is probably a trademark issue or something. Any good guesses by some of you who are more knowledgeable than me in the world of guitar amps and cabinets what’s behind those names?

How to make chiptune in renoise?
So I consider myself new to renoise though I have had it for awhile. I’m trying to make chiptune inside of it but I run into problems.
First problem is that I can’t use all effect commands when I use a VST, so I guess most people use samples or make the sounds native?
Second is I can’t make a slow arpeggio at all, like the arpeggio command just goes sorta crazy. Sure I can make it a little bit slower but nothing that sounds like a pleasant chord. More something that would work on a crazy lead or some cool effect.
Would also be cool to learn how people create those chiptune sounds, be it a sample from another tracker etc.

Antares Choir vst3 not showing
I can’t get Antares Choir vst3 plugin to show in Renoise, It’s in the same folder as my other Antares plugins (the default vst3 folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3), and it shows just fine with Studio One 5 Artist. I did rescan plugins and even checked the rescan previously failed plugins but still I get nothing. Anyone else having the same problem? Anything else I could try? I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled it for a few times.

Different ways to load instruments
Super stupid question:
We have the instrument loading window just under the spectrum analyzer, while we can also use the instrument selection on the right side. Is there any difference between those and how can I add different folders in the first one? There is only bundled content and user library.

Extracting notes and timings of a sample as precise pattern data
I often have a sample or automated sequence in vst instrument that I’d like to extract as precise Renoise pattern data. Getting note pitch right manually is easier, but when it comes to timings and volume I find it really hard. Obvious struggle is with short notes because Renoise doesn’t support ending notes before second line. Luckily you can make phrases with double tempo.
What is your workflow for this kind of situation?

I did.. something. Now my Renoise won't play any audio at all, but only when my song is loaded
It is a very simple song so far, just a few tracks but I’d rather not redo the whole thing. I opened a different song, copied a track, loaded this one and pasted it. I hit play, and realized I didn’t have a sample for the new track, so I loaded one and then… nothing. I thought it was my computer so I saved and rebooted, now when I load that song, and only that song, there’s no audio at all. Even clicking on the sample or instrument on the right where you can preview the sounds by clicking them makes no sound at all. Hitting the keyboard to play notes, nothing, no sound. What happened?

Open an XRNS File change Renoise windowstatus?!
Hello together!
I do hear some Renoise Competition Songs at the moment and i get aware that my Renoise Programmwindow changed the window status from maximized to normal. (what is very smal, aprox. half of the screen)
When i Renoise startet over the Desktop icon it start always with Window maximized. (with Taskbar visible)
The unwanted behaviour only occurs sporadically when i doubleclick to load a songfile or themefile on an external explorerwindow.
Anyone has the similar problem maybe?
I’m on Windows 7 last patchstand. I know it’s not supported officially anymore, but maybe it can be an problem on later windows versions too.
happy tracking

Modwheel causing repeated notes
I just edited a long sequence with a rising filter using my modwheel on the synth.
it works ok, but if we hace C---------------- F------------, then when it reaches the F and if it write a M on that line, and the 2-3 lines before the F and 2-3 lines after the F, the F note will start triggering on every line after that. yes i can reproduce it. i worked my way out of it, by manking sure not to “ride over” the notes that came longer down. i only changed modwheel direct on the note, or on empty space
