Install vst3 plugins
My renoise 3.2.1. does not see half of the plugins. Not sure exactly what files are installed in vst3 format, but it seems to ignore most of them. For example, I cannot find TR-909.vst3 or Vital.vst3 or Trackspacer25.vst3 in the list.
I’m scanning from a folder with symlinks that I created for ableton. There is a huge list in the log with ‘Instantiate FAILED (DLL is no VST Plug)’. But even in the logs there are no plugins with the vst3 extension.

Making effects continue after track slider turned down/off
Hello all,
New to the forum but been using Renoise for quite a while.
I’m sure this is an easy one but I can’t for the life of me remember how I did it or how it works…
Simple example using only Track 1, a VST Plugin and the Renoise Delay effect:
If I play the song I hear the notes and delay effect as expected.
If I stop the track, the delay effect will continue and then fade out as expected (feedback/send dependent)
If I play the song and use the mouse to turn down track 1 (using the mixer slider) the notes fade out but the delay continues (feedback/send dependent)
If I use my midi control keyboard (M-Audio Oxygen 49) to turn down track 1 using its slider, the notes fade out and the delay also fades out.
Basically i want it where i drop the slider to zero on my midi controller, the notes will fade out but the Delay effect will continue for the duration of the feedback/send settings.
I’ve managed to do this on other songs but my tiny fish tank brain can’t remember how i did it.
Hope that all makes sense and any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob

ARA2 Plugin Support
I did a search and saw it kind of mentioned, but nothing officially asking for it, so here it is. I know it’s kind of niche, but since the sample editing is so good and convenient in Renoise, it’s now my go to for sampling projects, I really love having the instument list as a container for all the samples in a sampling project, but sometimes I need the more advanced features of Acoustica, it would be really convenient to be able to use that from inside Renoise. But if it’s not really a possibilty then it’s not like it’s hard to jockey samples back over to Renoise. Purely for convenience’s sake… plus there might be some issues with the way plugins are used in Renoise to begin with as far as this goes, I’m not sure there’s even a practical way to implement it, at least the way I would be looking to use it. I did very recently pick up a copy of mixcraft (don’t laugh lol) since it has the ARA2 support and some video editing support and a lot of the time I’d need special clean-up tools is on audio for video anyway. So really having it in Renoise is just like a bonus thing that would come in handy sometimes.

Edit instrument file to specify new vst paths
Hi,
I have an instrument, made on a former Windows 10 installation, with vst2 plugins. Now on my new system I have only the vst3 versions installed, hence Renoise can’t find the vsts’s needed for the instrument.
Is it possible to edit the instrument file and replace the vst2 paths with the new vst3 paths?
It’s not only a lot of vst’s I have to replace now, but I also would miss the vsts’ settings if I just replace them in Renoise.
Thanks

Update Renoise - Keep old settings
Hi,
I’ve installed the beta next to the previous version, which is awesome ofcourse. But how can I replace the old Renoise installation with the new one, and keep my settings?
Especially now, when maybe next week there will be another release available, same release, different name, I would like to know how you guys do this. At this moment I have to configure everything like installing the first time.
Thanks

Tool to find missing plugins?
Hey! I booted up some old tracks in Renoise today and am faced with the inevitable missing plugins.
Is there a tool which will seek out the official download page for missing plugins?
Or something which can search my computer for them automatically?
Yes, I’m super lazy now!
Thanks

Redux Request: Sample Export Format
Would be nice to have Sample Export Format in Redux, like there is in Renoise.
Right now you can only export samples from Redux in flac format, and it feels limited.
Add this option and it turns Redux into a handy audio editor plugin.
Hope to see it someday soon!

Timing Jitters - esp on 16th hi-hat sounds
Idk, am I imagining, or is it real, but…
During playback, I can hear a timing jitter - especially on 16th hi-hat type of sounds.
Both in real-time song playback and in rendered wav. Both Asio(Asio4All) and Windows DirectSound and WASAPI
It should all be ‘ts-ts-ts-ts-ts’, but occasionally it goes something like ‘ts-ts-ts-tr-ts-rs’. Sounds like it skips something for a millisecond.
I have included an example song and rendered file(inside the song, second sample).
Windows 10, Lenovo T460, Built-in sound-card. Renoise 3.4.2.

MIDI notes from Launchpad X custom mode are not played as mapped
Hi,
I’m having trouble with MIDI notes in Renoise when using my Launchpad X with EZ Drummer 3 as a plugin.
I have mapped a pad on the Launchpad to send C1 for kick which is the standard mapping in EZ drummer 3 (both standalone and plugin), and it works as it should in EZ drummer standalone and as VST3i plugin in Reaper. But when I try it in Renoise the midi monitoring shows a C3 so I get an open hi hat instead of a kick.
Guessing I have missed a setting somewhere in Renoise, but I don’t have a clue where to look so any help is greatly appreciated.
/Mathias

Is there a trick to move multiple selected markers at once?
Is there a trick or Tool to move multiple selected slice markers in the waveform editor at once? For example if i shift select 3 markers i can delete them with backspace. It would be nice to nudge or move them together too.
Any help is appreciated.

Auto Select Track By Instrument
So there is a tool that auto selects an instrument based on the first note here:
New Tool (3.0): Autocapture From First Note Renoise Tools renoise [3.01] BETA; TESTING WELCOMED Tool Version 1.1 Removed a lot of the unecessary status updates, only empty track is notified by the autocapture 3 new Shortcuts: "`ACF` Add Or Go To Empty Instrument Slot" Takes you to the first unused instrument slot in the instrument list (empty slot is tested/counts here as an instrument with no name) "`ACF` Go To First Empty Track" Takes you to the first empty track, if none are present a new track is created called “NEW TRACK” "`ACF` Go To Fir…I’m looking for something that does the exact opposite:
I would like to scroll through my instruments and have a track auto selected rather than scrolling through tracks and having the instrument selected.
Ideally this is useful for a one to one type of setup where one instrument per track is sufficient.
However, going back and forth between pattern editor/mixer to select a track and record then back to the sampler to edit can be a bit cumbersome when you have loads of tracks(My default is 128)
Being able to scroll the instruments and know that when you’re ready to record it will be on a preassigned track would be great.
As always I’m willing to shell out some cash for this one. Workflow is my top priority here.

The correct way for loading 16 samples directly
so, i have 16 files in a folder.
i want to load them with one click.
i.e. if renoise has 16 slots in the instrument box, those 16 samples should be loaded one per instrument box slot.
what’s the correct way of doing this?
i already know how to load one onto “current slot”, but i’d obviously prefer to be able to load all 16 at one go, without overwriting any pre-existing samples.
so “add instrument” instead of “instrument appears to whichever instrumentbox slot you’re on”.
please help?
will load one sample. but i need to load multiple samples. what’s the right way?
selecting 6 files and throwing them into renoise just results in the last sample being opened in the instrument box slot that’s selected.

Multi-core audio optimizations
@taktik thanks for the bug fixes!
sorry to bother, but do you think multicore optimization would be feasible in the future? What feature are you hoping for in upcoming Renoise releases? - #636 by neopan

Mutant Breaks Competition #15: Mix it up and make some friends!
Another Mutant Breaks is here!
This time it’s about collaborating and mixing up genres. Getting out of your comfort zone and making new friends.
You’ll be randomly paired with another MBC#15 participant. You’ll have the month of September to make a track together, combining two different genres that don’t obviously go together. More on that later.
How you work together is up to you. But I highly recommend you have a video call. Get to know each other a bit and talk about it. Share files, and don’t rely too much on external instruments and effects. Renoise seems like the obvious choice as DAW. But you can of course do anything you want. Use any software or hardware you like. Though you may have to render it to audio in case your partner doesn’t have the same software on their system.
When?
Sign up now!
Registration closes Tuesday August 29th.
Pairing announcement: September 1st.
Competition start: September 1st
Deadline: September 30th.
All dates are in your local time zone.
About combining genres
It’s all about making something new and fresh. Something you wouldn’t normally make. The idea is to go for bold choices, not safe ones.
Some examples:
Electro + Synthwave = meh, too similar.
Electro + Heavy Metal = Yeah, go nuts!
Heavy Metal + Classical music = meh, HM borrows a lot from it.
Heavy Metal + Techno = That could be interesting!
Genre suggestions
Here are some suggestions of genre combinations. But feel free to pick your own.
Berlin School + Classical
Berlin School + Breakcore
Berlin School + Rap
Black Metal + Breakcore
Black Metal + HipHop
Breakcore + Ambient
Breakcore + Classical
Chiptune + Ambient
Electro + Mathcore
Electro + (14th century) medieval music
Electro + Blues
Gabber + Ambient
Happy Hardcore + Classical
HipHop + Ambient
Psytrance + Ambient
Psytrance + Mathcore
Psytrance + Rap
Psytrance + Ska
Techno + Heavy Metal
Techno + (14th century) medieval music
Techno + Mathcore
This is by no means an exhaustive list. So feel free to combine whatever genres you like. Just remember to pair unlikely ones so you get something new and unexpected. And please, suggest combinations for the list.
Prizes
None…?
I don’t like the idea of music being something ‘you win at’. For me it’s all about having fun making something. But if people feel different and have something to offer, by all means.
Ps.
I’m blatantly stealing the collaboration idea from SynthForum.nl’s CollApril, so kudos to them.

Possibility of future Windows 7 support
Ok, Windows 7 is already out of scope of main-stream support.
microsoft supports only embedded devices and POS machines till October 2024.
The most stubborn ones use these updates on generic desktop computers.
Renoise system requirements still contain Windows 7 line, but think that such occurrence is not for a long time.
Creating this topic, just because i can and bet that neat quantity of people would like to ask the same question. So, here is a quick poll to research possibility of Windows 7 support.
Please insert your five coins.
PS Please don’t begin “this OS is obsolete” routine, to prevent unneeded conversations and to keep thread clean. Just believe me that plethora of people are using Windows 7 for a good reason. As for Linux and Mac users, please, stay calm too.
In case of acceptable results this poll can help Renoise developers to understand ability of commercial effectiveness of such project.

Please recommend me a lightweight Audio Multitrack Recording software for Win 10, and possibly Linux
I’m looking for multitrack audio recording software. Lightweight. Nothing too fancy. Preferably multiplatform, but Win10 is fine.
For simply recording external instruments with efx.
Audacity is too minimal, but other commercial software seems me just too much.
Something that sort of emulates cassette 4tracker workflow feel.
Thanks!

⮚ Renoise 3.4.3 and Redux 1.3.3 beta released
A long overdue bugfix release for Renoise and Redux is now available for registered users.
There are some “hairy” fixes in there - VST2/3 plugin compatibility changes, which are hard to test - so this build is marked as beta for now. If there are no major issues with the build, it will be released as a stable version next week.
Download as usual from
https://backstage.renoise.com
The betas are currently only available to registered Renoise users only: Demo versions will be uploaded as soon as the release goes stable.
Changes from Renoise 3.4.3 to 3.4.3 and Redux 1.3.2 to 1.3.3 Redux:- When triggering phrases from the host, phrase playback was started/bounced with a slight delay:
Bug: Redux Phrase prints off grid when bouncing to audio
-
Some imported MIDI files resulted in missing note columns such as missing notes in chords:
MIDI import behavior different between 3.3.x / 3.4.x, missing simultaneous note columns -
Some VST3 plugin GUIs would open with the wrong size or crash when opening/closing the editor window a few times:
OSX M1: NI Massive x & Kontakt 7 BUG with VST3 [resolved with Kontakt 7.1.13] -
VST3 plugin GUIs could open with an incorrect initial window size on Linux with XFCE:
VST3 Plugins glitchy on Linux - #43 by shorty -
Windows: Hybrid VST shows its GUI on the desktop when loading songs with Hybrid instances
Air Hybrid 3 VST black screen -
Using the auto-slice keyboard shortcut on alias samples could cause a crash:
Crash when auto-slicing a sample slice with keyboard shortcut -
Mono glide playback of instruments with exactly 12 modulation devices could cause a crash:
Crash with Mono + Glide + 12 mod devices -
Sample transpose settings in the Sample Editor preview were not applied correctly:
Sample Preview ends early when transposed down -
Sidechain signals sent from group tracks could have been played back with a small additional delay:
fixes BUG: Sidechain signal within groups not PDC compensated, depends on audio latency -
Undoing a sample selection over an entire sample range in the Sample Editor deleted the sample instead of restoring it:
Undo Pasting Over Whole Sample Permanently Deletes Waveform -
Volumes a phrase got triggered with and volumes within phrases were not correctly combined in *Velocity Tracker meta devices:
Velocity Tracker - Pattern & Phrase Values Not Combined Without Note -
Bypassed LineIn and ReWire devices muted all passed through signals with PDC:
Disabled Line in device mutes all audio in group -
Restoring some VST3 A/B presets in Renoise could cause visual glitches:
Glitchy track DSP display after restoring A/B presets with VST3 plugins
Changes/Enhancements:
-
Slightly larger font sizes in 125%, 150%, 175% GUI scaling modes.
-
Windows: Smoother scrolling with touchpads.
-
Windows: HiDPI auto-scaling is now disabled by default for all plugins, but can still be enabled manually in the plugin compatibility settings.
Most newer plugins work well or well enough on HiDPI screens nowadays. The auto-scaling option there often caused broken UIs, especially when plugins use OpenGL, so disabling the auto-scaling seems like a better default.
When your older plugins now initially render incorrectly on your HiDPI screens (resulting in too small GUIs), try enabling auto-scaling, but check first if the plugin has a custom UI scaling setting to enlarge it.
If you have any problems with the new builds, please report them here, directly in this forum topic.
